The unprecedented third show of new releases this month ends the series not with a whimper but with triumph. These aren’t extras or third-rate fillers. The tracks aired tonight proudly stand next to those played in the first two shows. In fact, this episode is not only the longest but most varied of the trio. Part of the reason for the length, though, is the last minute decision to add a set devoted to today’s release of the reissue of my third favorite album of all time, Let It Be by The Replacements. This new box includes a disc of outtakes and other rarities, along with a live album recorded in Chicago on August 17, 1984. I also added a couple of songs by a band I saw in Minneapolis last Saturday. Playing with our friends the Daniel James Gang (led by former Indonesia Junk front man Daniel James and accompanied by Geoff Palmer on second guitar) and opener Cheap Glue (oh man, I need them to record ASAP), Smart Shoppers are a performance art/punk band from Green Bay, and Shop Among Us is quite fun. There’s also sets devoted to two tribute records this week – Play On: A […]

Leeds crash 3–0 at Brighton in a rain-soaked reminder of just how tough the Premier League can be. Danny Welbeck and Diego Gómez did the damage as Leeds' defence wobbled and the attack misfired, leaving fans calling for tactical tweaks - and Daniel Farke demanding more bravery. We break down the key moments, Calvert-Lewin's injury, and that touchline flashpoint, plus what Farke's honesty tells us about where the squad really stands. Darragh joins to debate the big questions: Were Leeds too passive early on?}Could subs like Daniel James have made a difference sooner? And with 18 conceded already, how worried should fans be?Stats, fan reactions, and a look ahead to Nottingham Forest — all right here on Leeds, That!

Sixty-five years ago, overseas travel was a rare thing even for relatively well-off people in Britain. Currency controls meant it was illegal to take more than £50 abroad. Strict pricing controls on European airlines kept fares stubbornly high. The role of a travel writer was to persuade people to overcome these obstacles, brave the “metal tubes in the sky,” and set out to places where no one they knew had ever been before. Travel has changed a lot over the past seven decades, and travel writing has changed with it. Charting and championing the evolution of this art form has been the British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW). I became a member earlier this year, and have been impressed by the energy and supportiveness of this venerable institution. As the Guild looks back, they have anthologised the contributions of their members over the years. Giants of the industry reflect on their long careers, such as John Carter and Hilary Bradt, while contemporary writers – many familiar guests on the Travel Writing Podcast such as Ash Bhardwaj and Daniel Stables – bring fresh contributions. Daniel James Clarke is a British travel writer based in Portugal who has authored numerous guidebooks and articles on the country. He is also Vice President and Head of Sustainability at the BGTW. Daniel joins the Travel Writing Podcast to talk about the changing purpose and enduring value of travel writing, and to discuss their new anthology in which he played a role, Around the World in 65 Years: 101 Stories & Experiences from the Road Less Travelled, edited by Mary Anne Evans, published by Bradt Travel Guides and available from November 4, 2025. Listen here or find the Travel Writing Podcast on Spotify or iTunes.

John is joined by Hayley Williams and producer Daniel James to discuss how they wrote and recorded the album ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party'. Hayley Williams is an American pop-punk and rock musician. She began writing songs in her early teens, signing a deal with Atlantic Records at just 15 years old. The label wanted her to be a solo artist, but Hayley had other ideas, instead forming the band Paramore with three school friends. Paramore released their first album ‘All We Know Is Falling' when Hayley was still only 16. They quickly built a loyal fanbase as audiences resonated with the energy and passion in their music. The band went on to release five more albums and win numerous awards including three Grammys. In 2020 Hayley released her first, highly acclaimed solo album ‘Petals for Armor'. Sophomore album ‘FLOWERS for VASES/descansos' followed in 2021 to further critical praise. ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party', released in August this year on Hayley's own label Post Atlantic, is her third collaboration with musician, producer and longtime friend Daniel James. In this episode, Hayley and Daniel sit down with John at Platoon Studios to discuss how it felt setting out to record songs without an album in mind, how writing solo music differs from writing for Paramore for Hayley, the record's diverse influences, the vocal recording techniques they used and much more. Tracks discussed: Kill Me, Love Me Different, Parachute TAPE IT Thanks to our friends at Tape It for supporting the podcast. Last night, Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton went head-to-head in the second leaders’ debate of the campaign. The difference between the two leaders’ visions for the country was stark. Albanese talked about his “optimism” for the future, while Dutton asked voters to reflect on whether they are better off now than they were three years ago, suggesting that most people are not. But Albanese and Dutton were united on one thing: neither leader really landed a blow – and neither leader won the night. Today, 7am co-host Daniel James on the biggest moments from the debate – from energy, to housing, to diplomacy and defence – and why Dutton has had to admit another mistake. If you enjoy 7am, the best way you can support us is by making a contribution at 7ampodcast.com.au/support.
