Daz chats with Paul Curtis, a Liverpool-based artist specializing in street art and large murals. Paul has created more than 150 public pieces, largely in Liverpool and Wirral, but also in locations across the UK.Paul came to prominence with his very first piece of street art, "For All Liverpool's Liver Birds" (aka "The Liver Bird Wings"). The piece has since become part of Liverpool's fabric and continues to attract tourists to Jamaica Street to become a Liver Bird themselves. Many famous people have done just that, including HRH Camilla Parker-Bowles, Jamie Carragher, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Bianca Walkden. In 2018, the mural was the 19th most geotagged place in the UK, nestled between Stone Henge and Abbey Road on the list. One of his first commissions was a 40-metre wide detailed mural of Liverpool painted for Liverpool Shopping Park in Edge Lane. The colourful style of this mural proved very popular and as luck would have it, film director, Danny Boyle, stumbled upon this mural and hired Paul to paint a similar mural for use his Beatles film, Yesterday.Visit Paul's website @ https://www.paulcurtisartwork.com.The Liverpool Connection is an LFC podcast that aims to bring the story of our wonderful club to as many fans as possible around the world. The UK has once again been at the centre of the Olympic & Paralympic sporting world. Manchester has been hosting the World Taekwondo Championships, Weymouth has been hosting the European Sailing Championships, Diving's World Series was in London whilst the Olympic Park has also been home to international hockey. We start in Manchester reflecting on medal success and controversy for Great Britain's taekwondo athletes. Double Olympic Champion Jade Jones finally added a World gold to her list of achievements, but Bianca Walkden's triumph was marred by booing as she won gold in controversial circumstances. We debate booing at a sporting event.UK Sport has been backing Mental Health Awareness Week and we discuss how sport at an elite level needs to find a balance between medal success and athlete welfare. Whilst we welcome the open and honest conversations that have been had this week, we ask whether there is still a lot more that governing bodies should be doing.Big names featured this week include Tiger Woods who has stated he wants to play in the Olympics in Tokyo. We also talk about Rory McIlroy's decision to represent Team Ireland not Team GB. And, are the world's big name golfers more interested in playing Olympic golf in Japan than they were in Brazil because of the greater potential commercial benefits? In our weekly round-up of Olympic & Paralympic news, there's success for Great Britain's wheelchair tennis team and Johanna Konta on clay in Rome, another win for triathlete Alistair Brownlee, GB Hockey news (both field and ice), Netball frustration for Ama Agbeze, Diamond League Athletics and gold for sailor Giles Scott. Oh, and we have come up with a nickname for Tom Daley that we're convinced will become synonymous with one of the nation's leading sporting heroes. Harry Kane, Anthony Joshua, Bianca Walkden and Rebecca Adlington talk to Braydon and co-host Conor McNamara about the personal sacrifice needed to make it to the top in sport.
This week's Interview is with none other than 2 x World Champion and Grand Slam Champion, the amazing Queen B, Bianca Walkden. Our chat starts off with what every athlete should be thinking about, Hopes and Goals for 2018. Bianca has had a great year in 2017, I ask how she finds competing so often and does she peak for certain events or just try to maintain a high level of conditioning all year round. Then it's onto what point in her life she decided to become number one in the world of taekwondo. Hobbies, does Bianca have time for anything other than Taekwondo? What motivates Queen B is it standing on the podium or are the cash prizes up for grabs the driving force to keep her winning- I'm sure we can all guess the answer but let's hear what Bianca has to say, what truly motivates her. The next question is about social media, her youtube videos, Instagram stories etc. With the brand Queen B out there on hoodies, kick pads, t-shirts and also splashed all over social media is this what she does to relax or does she enjoy getting her brand to the followers. We chat next about SPOTY (Sports Personality of the Year) and who she was sitting next to did she enjoy the experience, and how does she feel knowing she is inspiring the next generation. As a successful player for Team GB, we chat about who we should be watching coming up through the ranks from children up to juniors and if the future looks bright for GB. 2020 was next on the questions to be answered- has she been to Tokyo before and importantly does she hope to represent GB and take some Gold home? We ask Bianca what a regular day in her life is like, then onto rules in tkd is there any she’d love to change and why. What's after competing for Bianca, some of the old fighters now coach on GB, will she coach or maybe open a performance centre??? We all have good luck charms, things we do at competitions, what’s Bianca's take on the whole “good luck charms” does she have one and if so what is it and why. We chat about the love of her life Aaron Cook and how she felt when she first met Aaron and also what they chat about after training- is taekwondo off the agenda or is it what they eat sleep and chat about. Lastly, we asked Bianca the same question we ask all our guests…. what makes taekwondo different, and also what it takes to be a black belt. I hope you fun listening to the podcast with the Queen B of taekwondo Bianca Walkden. remember if you like this podcast please subscribe, like and leave a comment on iTunes.
