Today we're joined by Ross Davenport - 3-time Olympian, 2-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, former European record holder and now FINIS international business development manager. We talk about Ross's childhood as a wannabe soccer star, his break at 12yrs old from swimming and the pivotal moment that saw him return to the pool fully committed and ready for action. Interestingly enough, former podcast superstars Rebecca Adlington and David Davies have also have similar hiatus periods in their adolescent years only to return more fired up than ever. Ross's interview is a great one to listen to with your kids in this regard as there are some excellent life and moral stories to be gained. As Ross discusses right at the start of the show, Paul was Ross's key referee for landing his role with FINIS, a position in which Ross has been in for over 8 years now. Ross's passion and enthusiasm for swimming really shone through when Paul first met Ross at the Loughborough University in 2013, shortly after Ross had retired from competitive swimming. During that meeting as part of one of the Swim Smooth 3-day Coach Education Courses, Ross blistered through an amazing 100m kicking set in well under 1:05! Crazy. The coaches loved it! From there, FINIS CEO, John Mix, was looking for someone who understood swimming and the company's training aids and Ross was Paul's obvious first choice for the role. After a trip over to California for the interview, John was suitably impressed and the rest, as they say, is history. We hope you enjoy! Paul

In the fifteenth episode of season three of the Her Spirit podcast BBC Breakfast Louise Minchin and BBC Triathlon presenter Annie Emmerson talk to 4 time Olympic medalists Rebecca Adlington OBE.Becky first got into swimming at the age of 3 when her parents wanted her to learn a life skill. She fell in love with it straight away and knew that I wanted to be a swimmer. She has two older sisters who Becky has always looked up to and who inspired her to become competitive but she didn’t think that she would ever become a multiple Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European medallist. Becky has competed in four Olympic finals, over two Games, winning two gold and two bronze medals in Beijing and London respectively.Since retiring from swimming, Becky has enjoyed challenging herself and exploring different avenues, including taking part in a variety of TV shows – From I’m a Celeb in 2013, to The jump in 2016 and Masterchef in 2017.Becky has also been part of the BBC punditry team since 2013, and covering The Olympics in Rio 2016, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Games. An extra special bonus in Becky's career came when breaking the World Record in the 800m freestyle in 2008. The record was 19 years old, the same age Becky was in Beijing; it was the highlight of her swimming career and a stand out moment for her personally. She still can’t believe she gets to say "I get to say I’m the greatest swimmer that Great Britain has ever produced!"She feels incredibly privileged to have been part of Team GB at our home Olympic Games in 2012 "To experience the whole atmosphere, spirit and camaraderie of London is something I will never forget"Becky's motto of the 2012 Olympics was to ‘inspire a generation‘, a legacy which inspired her to set up my own learn to swim program. This has become her greatest challenge in swimming and her mission to see every child in the UK leave primary school being able to swim 25 metres. She is very proud to say that there are now 10,000 children a week learning to swim ‘the Becky way’ on our programmes across the country. Becky talks to Annie and Louise about the recent arrival of her son Albie in early March, with her partner Andy and the brother to Summer her first child. She talks about her struggles during COVID to stay active and what swimming means to her during her times as an Olympic years and founder of and is a partnership between Becky and Total Swimming Ltd, one of the UK's largest and most innovative private specialist swimming companies in the UK.These podcasts have been made possible through the support of Medichecks www.medichecks.com and Sport England www.sportengland.org. Former Olympic champion Adlington challenges us to take control of the things that matter
Rebecca Adlington went to the Beijing Olympics in 2008 somewhat under the radar. outside of swimming few had heard of her, despite her having a great medal chance at those games. A week later all that changed as she came home a double Olympic Champion.
With TV studios on lockdown, Eurosport presenter Orla Chennaoui turned to Zoom to film interviews with a who's who of British athletics for Eurosport's re-runs of the London 2012 Olympics next week (24 May-31 May). Her interviews, with the likes of Mo Farah, Adam Peaty, Chris Hoy, Rebecca Adlington, Greg Rutherford and Bradley Wiggins, were all recorded with the athletes at home, recollecting their memories of the hugely successful Olympic Games. This came with its own challenges, and also a number of key benefits, as discussed in the podcast. The entire production was created remotely – it was filmed and edited remotely, the archive clips were all accessed remotely, and some re-commentating was also done remotely. Impressively, the production values still manage to mirror that of a typical studio-based show. Orla discusses how it all worked in this 11-minute chat with Broadcast Sport editor Jake Bickerton.

In this candid podcast, Becky talks openly about being a mother for the first time and the instant guilty you feel when you do something for yourself. "I don’t understand why we do that as mums? It's so hard to balance being a mum and I have learnt I need to look after myself. Exercise and a healthy lifestyle is so important. It makes me a better parent."Becky gives a rare insight into how she really felt post the Beijing Olympics and the criticism she received about her body shape. “ Your ugly, your fat, you look like a whale” I wasn’t trying to be a super model I was an Olympic swimmer. I was only 19 years old which is a difficult time for any young girl or young women. It was so unexpected. I didn’t coupe with it and I still don’t understand it. I learnt to block it out."The turning point for Becky was becoming a mum. She talks about learning to love and accept her body and why it has taken her to 30 years old to accept herself and why she is very careful about what she says in front of my daughter. Becky shares her views about social media and the culture we have created around diet and fitness. "Everyone wants an easy route to everything. You can’t just take a tablet or drink this tea and become a size 10. It’s not about eating lettuce it’s about balance and enjoying life."

A multiple medal winner and record breaker she's packed a lot in at a young age, first grabbing the nation's attention by winning two golds at the Beijing Olympics and breaking a world record into the bargain. When she got back home she was granted the Freedom of Mansfield and the Mayor gave her a pair of golden shoes. The Queen opted for the more conventional approach, bestowing an OBE. She went on to win two more medals at the London 2012 Olympics and when all the cheering and flag waving had died down and the games were over she announced her retirement. She's hardly been a slouch since - appearing regularly on TV, getting married and in recent months getting ready for the birth of her first child, a daughter, who was born Monday 8, June, 2015. She's only 26. One of three sisters, family life was dominated by early morning training session at the local pool and it wasn't long before little Becky was out of the shallow end and heading for the fast lane ... The negative build up to the Olympics was a disgrace….the British press should get a grip…they were criticizing everything. First it was the security (which was a bummer but it was solved)…then the transport…Next, .The hotels took a bit of a hammering….they had to drop their prices by 80% in some cases….which probably brought the price down to what it usually is... Greed again…well this time they got their eye wiped. It was the same as the millennium celebrations….everyone wacked up their prices and no-one showed up. Even when our athletes get into a final and don’t win a medal…it’s “She only managed 5th place”…we are talking about a nobody reporter who has achieved NOTHING criticizing- an athlete who is not only the best in the country but is 5th in the WORLD!!....pathetic. Clare Balding got a bit of a telling off for suggesting Rebecca Adlington was expected to get a gold but ONLY got a bronze…..she did apologise. The medals are pouring in…the emotion is overpowering…anyone who doesn’t get a lump in their throat at the medal ceremonies needs to get a life. What a refreshing change to see all these youngsters setting an example to all those people moaning and layabouts who riot and steal and place no input into society…and get all the publicity. Perhaps one or two of them will realise that he only place success comes before work is in the dictionary…..but I doubt it.
