The History of Italian Gymnastics traces the remarkable rise of one of the world's most successful gymnastics nations—from Italy's early Olympic champions and circus acrobatics roots to the Vanessa Ferrari revolution and today's powerhouse led by Alice D'Amato and Manila Esposito. We explore the forgotten pioneers, iconic eponymous skills, the dominance of Jury Chechi on rings, the 2019 breakthrough World medal, the unforgettable Paris Olympics, and whether Italy has what it takes to defeat Team USA during the Los Angeles quad. Along the way we revisit Vanessa Ferrari's controversial Olympic floor finals, the MTV series that made Italian gymnasts celebrities, and the innovations that changed the Code of Points forever. After winning gold at the Winter Olympics, skier Breezy Johnson did what champions do — she jumped for joy. And her medal fell off. She later joked, “Don't jump in them… I was jumping in excitement and it broke,” adding that it was “not, like, crazy broken. But, a little broken.” Other athletes experienced similar ribbon failures during their celebrations. In this episode of Mistake of the Week, Mark Graban looks at what happens when a system fails during the very moment it's designed to support — and why it's encouraging that Olympic officials acknowledged the problem instead of blaming the athletes. Because if your medal can't survive celebration… what exactly was it tested for? This episode explores: Designing for real human behavior (including joy) The importance of testing under realistic conditions Why admitting a flaw beats assigning blame What organizations can learn from a broken ribbon

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act turns 30 this year. The provision is straightforward. It shields online platforms, from Facebook to your church’s message board, from being sued over content their users post. The new commercial promotes a new technological feature for the doorbell, and the ad explains how it works by addressing the missing pets crisis in the US. However, some social media users have been left 'creeped' out by the ad. More than 60 medals have been won so far by athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics - including a silver for New Zealand - but these precious mementoes are barely surviving the celebrations. Women's downhill alpine skiing gold medallist Breezy Johnson hadn't even made it past her post-race media session with the BBC when hers fell apart. Games organisers are now investigating what has caused medals, of all colours, to crack or come apart. Sports reporter Felicity Reid spoke to Lisa Owen.

More than 3500 athletes from 93 countries will be competing for 195 medals at the Milan-Cortina Games. Three countries will be making their Winter Olympic debuts at the 2026 Games, the African nations of Benin and Guinea Bissau along with the United Arab Emirates. But with the established winter sport nations such as Norway, the United States of America, Canada and Germany looking to dominate the medal table once again, how hard is it for new countries to compete on the world stage?Eight African nations will be represented this time with Eritrea, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa along with the two debutants taking part. South Africa is sending its largest ever team with five athletes, but over six decades since an African nation made its Winter Olympics debut, the continent's first medal remains elusive.Matt Smith only took up the sport three years ago and is now going to be South Africa's sole cross-country skier in the upcoming games. He tells Lee James why he hopes his inclusion can inspire generations to come, and why he's been nicknamed the 'Snowbok'. Simidele Adeagbo became the first Nigerian to compete at the Winter Olympics in 2018 and was the first black female Olympian in the sport of Skeleton. This week on Sheena Interrupted, we're celebrating a huge milestone… and unpacking why it made me deeply uncomfortable. We celebrated our YouTube plaque for 100,000 subscribers which sent me spiraling back to childhood awards, second-place trophies, and that feeling of never quite being “the best.” TRID thinks awards are just souvenirs of the journey. I'm over here wondering if they quietly mess with us on a deeper level and the way we see ourselves… Also in this episode: we discussed into Olympic Medals, Grammys, Streamys, and why some people crave recognition while others want to run from it. If you've ever: • Felt weird accepting a compliment or an award • Worked just as hard as everyone else and still didn't get “first place” • Taken time off for kids or life, and are now trying to come back to work or your dreams…then this episode is for you. Stay till the end for some terrible award puns from TRID, a live mini performance of The Christmas Song, and a little reminder that you're not defined by a trophy…or the lack of one.
