New York-based DJ, producer and WT Records label head William Burnett, AKA DJ Speculator, has started a new video talk show. Originally premiering on the Lot Radio, the first season of Talk Video was just posted to YouTube. The eleven episodes feature interviews with industry members like Veronica Vasicka, Legowelt, Beautiful Swimmers' Ari Goldman, The Lot founder Francois Vaxelaire, Sybil Jason, Bossa Nova Civic Club owner John Barclay and RA staff writer Matt McDermott. The talks premiered on The Lot between September 17th and September 27th, and are described as "open freeform" discussions of how the subjects "got where they are, where they are going and whatever else pops up in conversation." DJ Speculator is known for his weekly sets on The Lot, his work at Greenpoint's The Thing, as well as his SPECS repair shop. In recent years he has released records on L.I.E.S., Rush Hour, The Trilogy Tapes and Crème Organization. Like his name suggests, Black Merlin is something of a wizard. His music is drenched in worldly sounds and colourful cultures, not least his forthcoming Kosua album, a second on Island of The Gods. Inspired by his love affair with the island of Papua New Guinea, it features recordings of the local tribes, jungle sounds, wildlife and ancient dance customs so is a living and breathing document that immediately transports you to the southwestern Pacific. It comes after years of dizzyingly diverse releases on the likes of Pinkman, Mannequin and She Lost Kontrol that mix up EBM, techno, ambient and house, plus collaborative projects such as Karamka and Spectral Empire. His 90 minute mix for us is as stylish and unrestricted as you would expect, and given that we’re in Halloween month, it feels like it’s come just at the right time. Starting out with soot black apoca-disco, it traverses its way through study industrial, urban desolation and factory floors in meltdown. It’s mechanical and shadowy, but always filled with a sense of tension and suspense that keeps you enthralled.

It's hot as hell and we have a mix which is set to bang your midweek into oblivion. Scott Fraser is a Glaswegian expat based in London who has long been a friend of Ransom Note. With more than a few tales to tell he has been a pivotal figure in dance and electronic music within the capital for many a year and has consistently supported the underground. As the founder of Crimes Of The Future alongside Timothy J Fairplay his label released music by the likes of Vercetti Technicolor, Mystic Bill, Black Merlin, Betonkust, Innershades and more whilst as a producer he himself has appeared on the likes of Emotional Especial and World Unknown. However, it is perhaps the Body Hammer party series for which he is best known - a longstanding night which he has run and championed alongside Joe Hart. The party remains focused on the rough, the raw and the real. A rare feat amidst the commercial capital. Next weekend Body Hammer will appear on the Ransom Note/ Optimo & Friends stage at Farr, we are delighted to have them on board.

Black Merlin, or George Thompson to his Mum, first came to our attention with his outstanding Brunswick Drive 12" on Commander Weatherall's Bird Scarer label last year. Since then, we've kept a keen eye on his movements and his unique form of 80's inspired, cinematic and analogue heavy aesthetic has earned him further releases on the excellent World Unknown imprint and Mike Simonetti's New Jersey.
