A lot of reasons for that, but probably the biggest is an onslaught of debilitating depression that affected nearly every area of my life. And with depression came doubts. And with doubts came delays. And then dust began to settle. Which depressed the fuck out of me even more. As the Doomsday Clock ticks and tocks its way toward oblivion, they have chosen to abandon the path of least resistance in favor of authenticity and musical defiance. Calling the broken metropolis of Los Angeles home, Immune has performed at Ozzfest and Mayhem Festival and have had their music featured in numerous films and television shows. Currently hard at work on a new EP, they have recorded with legendary producers and engineers including Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down) and Bryan Carlstrom (Alice in Chains, Social Distortion). Immune; submitted photo. In an odd twist, it turns out that I owe a huge debt of thanks to today’s guest and featured artist, Kendra Black, for helping to pull me out of that quicksand. From the time we first talked, she’s been checking in on me, mainly to find out when the hell her episode was going to drop, but also, I sense, because she suspects some of the roadblocks I’ve been staring at getting the show back on line. Those regular check-ins have been like little bursts of light and warmth through a dingy window. I’m already lining up artists for the next episode, and am very gratified that so many of the bands and artists I love are starting to book dates again, and can’t wait to share with you all the Indie music news that comes my way.

Seguimos perdiendo biodiversidad. Somos responsables de un declive progresivo y generalizado de la reducción de ejemplares y especies por tierra, mar y aire. Esta vez lo constata el informe Estado de la Naturaleza en Cataluña 2020. Las poblaciones de mamíferos, peces, pájaros, reptiles, anfibios y mariposas están perdiendo individuos de forma progresiva. De media un 25 por ciento en los últimos 18 años. Es especialmente preocupante en prados y ambientes agrícolas donde se ha perdido el 30 por ciento de ejemplares y sumamente sangrante en ríos, lagos y humedales donde la pérdida supera el 50 por ciento. Todo ello es fruto del abandono continuado de prados y cultivos, que han perdido un 34 por ciento de sus individuos en menos de dos décadas. Las especies más afectadas son los pájaros estépicos que dependen de las tierras de secano y de los campos en barbecho y las mariposas diurnas de prados y pastos que han caído un espantoso 71 por ciento.  Esta pérdida de fauna salvaje está directamente relacionada con la alteración de sus hábitats. Los cambios en los usos del suelo y la explotación directa son los principales responsables, aunque la emergencia climática y las especies invasores tienen un impacto cada vez mayor. El motivo de fondo es pues un modelo socioeconómico que intensifica la obtención de recursos en determinadas áreas y abandona otros que habían sido utilizados de forma más sostenible. Un verano más, Ecologistas en Acción publica el listado en el que denuncia las playas más contaminadas de España. Este año son 48, dos por provincia, las más degradadas o que sufren una peor gestión por vertido de aguas y mala depuración. El informe de este verano de la organización ecologista hace, además, un repaso de los últimos seis años desde que se implantó este sistema de clasificación de banderas negras, que viene a ser el reverso oscuro de las banderas azules que premian los mejores modelos de gestión y medio ambiente en las costas de distintos países. Algunas banderas negras vienen siendo recurrentes como la playa del Peñón y la Guardia en Salobreña, Granada por el impacto urbanístico; el sistema de saneamiento de Gijón, en Asturias por la falta de depuradora en la zona este de la ciudad; el proyecto del puerto de Fonsalía, en Santa Cruz de Tenerife en Canarias por la amenaza de su construcción en una zona ZEC; la alúmina de Alcoa, en Lugo y Ence, en Pontevedra, debido a la contaminación industrial; o el Mar Menor, en Murcia, cuya situación sigue agravándose con el tiempo. También la de Badalona, en Barcelona, por un sistema insuficiente de saneamiento. Este año, al igual que en 2018 y 2019, el mayor problema del litoral español se centra en la combinación de vertidos de aguas y su mala depuración, aunque con un agravante, ya que 2020 es el año que mayor número de denuncias sobre vertidos y depuración ha recibido de estos últimos seis años. Las especies invasoras, la erosión en las playas arenosas o los proyectos de ampliaciones portuarias "injustificadas" son también circunstancias que se han tenido en cuenta para otorgar las banderas negras. Desde 2015 Ecologistas en Acción ya ha concedido 284 banderas negras. Tras dos meses de confinamiento, hemos tenido la gran oportunidad de contemplar y vivir nuestras ciudades sin polución, sin ruido, con olor a naturaleza que antes no sentíamos, el canto de los pájaros, conversaciones de balcón a balcón…Y la pregunta que ahora nos formulamos es si deseamos volver a las ciudades ruidosas y contaminadas de antes del inicio de la crisis del COVID19.  En Barcelona, la Plataforma por la Calidad del Aire lanza la campaña #RecuperemLaCiutat #RecuperemosLaCiudad para pedir un desconfinamiento que priorice a las personas y la movilidad socialmente justa y ambientalmente sostenible en detrimento del uso del vehículo privado. La contaminación atmosférica afecta gravemente nuestra salud y agrava los efectos del Covid-19. Por primera vez, en décadas, muchas de nuestras ciudades cumplen las recomendaciones en calidad del aire que pide la OMS. Por primera vez en los últimos 50 años, respirar en Madrid o Barcelona no nos perjudica la salud. Esta crisis nos ha brindado la grandísima oportunidad de comprobar lo que es vivir en una ciudad sin humos, sin ruido…¿Vamos a aprovecharla? Estudios internacionales evidencian que las zonas con más polución están sufriendo mayores tasas de mortalidad y morbilidad por el coronavirus. ¿Qué podemos hacer para que la nueva normalidad, el mundo de después, incorpore aspectos positivos? La Plataforma por la Calidad del Aire nos propone la de mantener los niveles de contaminación a mínimos. Por lo que necesitamos reducir drásticamente el número de vehículos y que un porcentaje importante de calles se conviertan en un espacio para caminar e ir en bici de forma segura. Potenciar la capacidad del transporte público. Por lo que se pide un plan de choque urgente a las administraciones para convertir las calzadas en vial prioritario para peatones y bicis, en todas las calles y accesos de las ciudades. Confinemos los coches, recuperemos la ciudad. Escuchar audio

El otro día comentábamos en Planeta Vivo la cantidad de miles de objetos que acumulamos en casa, una media de 10 mil se calcula, la mayoría sin darles salida alguna. ¿Cuántas veces utilizamos el proyector, o las muletas que tan útiles nos fueron tras rompernos la pierna? ¿Y el taladro? Éste último tiene respuesta universal: está en funcionamiento una media de 13 minutos a lo largo de su vida útil. Trece minutos! Otro dato: cada año producimos 100 mil millones de toneladas de materiales de los cuales tan solo el 9 por ciento se reutiliza o recicla.  Por todo ello nos hace felices dar la bienvenida a una gran iniciativa para promover la economía circular: la primera biblioteca de las cosas de España, un espacio de préstamo promovido por un grupo de vecinos y entidades de Barcelona en la que alquilar objetos cedidos.  Está ubicada en el Casal de Ca l’Isidret del barrio de Poblenou de Barcelona y se inspira en otras bibliotecas parecidas de Toronto, Berlín o Londres para fomentar la economía circular y reducir el impacto medioambiental de la producción de desechos. La impulsan Rezero y Nusos Cooperativa con la colaboración de la Cooperativa Etcèteres y eReuse. Una iniciativa que evita generar nuevos residuos y que va a alegrar enormemente a mi vecino, cansado de que le pida que me preste el taladro. A parte de éste, hay además productos electrónicos como un DVD, vajillas, ollas, juegos de mesa, sillas de ruedas, caminadores, férulas de media pierna, bicicletas, sacos de dormir, pies de gato o las tan socorridas muletas, al menos unos días de nuestra vida… Escuchar audio
