Send us a textOzzy Osbourne's life was a thunderous symphony of chaos, triumph, and resilience. From co-founding Black Sabbath in 1968 and birthing heavy metal with groundbreaking albums like Paranoid and Master of Reality, to launching a wildly successful solo career marked by anthems like “Crazy Train,” Ozzy constantly redefined rock rebellion. His career was equally infamous—biting off a bat's head on stage, snorting ants, and surviving near-death experiences, including the tragic loss of guitarist Randy Rhoads. With Sharon Osbourne by his side, he reinvented himself again in the '90s through Ozzfest, which ran over two decades, and MTV's The Osbournes, which humanized the “Prince of Darkness” for a new generation. In later years, Ozzy battled Parkinson's disease and multiple health setbacks but still returned for a historic final Black Sabbath reunion show on July 5, 2025, performing seated on a bat-themed throne in Birmingham. Just 17 days later, he passed away at 76, leaving behind a legacy that merged mayhem, genius, and unexpected vulnerability. This episode dives deep into the unforgettable highs and crushing lows—from his wildest interviews and family drama to his cultural legacy and final farewell. On July 22, 2025, we lost Birmingham-born rock vocalist and cultural icon Ozzy Osbourne, rock's "prince of darkness," at the age of 76. His death, from complications due to Parkinson's Disease, ends a career spanning five decades, in which he pioneered an entire subgenre of heavy metal music, as frontman for Black Sabbath, before going on to an even bigger career as a solo artist, where he is credited for introducing the guitarist Randy Rhoads to the wider rock world, and for creating the wildly popular Ozzfest tours. Then, when he'd done it all, he and members of his family, Jack, Kelly, and his manager-wife Sharon, became pioneers of "reality TV" with the hit series, The Osbournes. On this very special episode, we hear two personal stories of how Ozzy's music and persona touched the lives of music industry professionals who were also, first and foremost, fans. Returning to our program, Jenn D'Eugenio (Women In Vinyl), made the journey to Birmingham for Ozzy's bittersweet Back To The Beginning farewell show, . She shares her first-hand descriptions of the event, plus two other fascinating Black Sabbath stories. Also returning is acclaimed music journalist Sylvie Simmons (Sounds, Kerrang!, and more), who took some time away from writing an Ozzy piece for Mojo magazine to share some personal anecdotes with Ozzy dating all the way back to his last days in Sabbath and how Sharon navigated his career back to the top. And now for something completely different...in this special episode, we pay tribute to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne and each pick five of our favorite songs from the rock legend's career. So you may ask yourself, why are we doing an Ozzy episode on our classic alternative music podcast? We certainly don't want to be "those guys" who churn out opportunistic memorial episodes - but, quite simply, Uncle Gregg suggested "hey, we should do an Ozzy tribute" and Brett said "OK, let's do it." That's the way decisions are made here at O3L Headquarters...and six hours later, the episode is out to the world. John "Ozzy" Osbourne passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, a little more than two weeks after his final performance at the Back to the Beginning farewell concert, a massive show that featured a who's who of heavy metal musicians, culminating in a five song Ozzy solo set and a four song finale from Black Sabbath. Ozzy, of course, rose to prominence as the lead singer of Birmingham rock band Black Sabbath from the time of their formation in 1969 until his dismissal in 1979. Considered one of (if not THE) most influential bands in the evolution of heavy metal, Sabbath also consisted of guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, releasing a string of classic albums like Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970), Master of Reality (1971), Vol. 4 (1972), Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973), Sabotage (1975), Technical Ectasy (1976), Never Say Die (1978) before Ozzy launched a fruitful solo career. Solo records include 1980's Blizzard of Ozz, 1981's Diary of a Madman, 1983's Bark at the Moon, and 1991's No More Tears, intertwined with occasional Black Sabbath reunions, most notably their 2013 album 13. Osbourne remained at the forefront of pop culture through his popular Ozzfest tours and his unlikely stint as a lovable TV Dad on the reality show The Osbournes. Learn more about your ad choices. In Episode #1,026 of the Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards kicks off with technical glitches, sharing his early-morning foot pain—possibly gout or an injury from weekend activities—while soldiering through for two hours of raw commentary. The episode pays tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who reportedly passed at 76. Clay recounts the moment he learned of Ozzy's death while at lunch, sparking memories of the rock icon's wild life: snorting ants on tour with Mötley Crüe, biting bat heads, and Jackson concerts in '84 and '96. He praises Ozzy's enduring fame, from Black Sabbath to Ozzfest, crediting manager Sharon Osbourne's genius in reviving his career and launching The Osbournes TV show, introducing him to new generations. Shifting to Willie Nelson, Clay admires the 91-year-old's ongoing tours, adapting songs with lower keys for authenticity. He suggests studying Willie's body post-mortem to explore long-term marijuana benefits, contrasting it with Johnny Cash's late-career Rick Rubin collaborations, like reinterpreting Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt." Local crime dominates: A chaotic interstate shooting on I-220 at Medgar Evers Blvd. left a 31-year-old man shot multiple times, with vehicles overturned—likened to Grand Theft Auto. Clay critiques Jackson's recurring violence, possibly road rage or gang-related, noting it rarely occurs elsewhere in the tri-county area, citing past incidents like a DJ's fatal shooting. In Canton, a potential hate crime unfolds: 33-year-old James Ross allegedly shot 47-year-old Troy Waldrop in the face at Camden Park Apartments over jealousy involving Ross's ex-girlfriend (Waldrop's niece). Clay attributes it to unchecked emotions, calling it the city's third murder, urging justice. Clay analyzes viral body cam footage from a Jacksonville, FL, traffic stop: A non-compliant driver, pulled for no lights and no seatbelt, locks himself in, demands a supervisor, and resists—leading to a window break, punch, and arrest for resistance and marijuana possession. He defends police, blaming entitlement and non-compliance, dubbing body cams "BLM's kryptonite." The FAFO (F***ed Around and Found Out) championship goes to 49-year-old DeShane Hamilton Collier of Jackson, arrested for public intoxication at a Pearl gas station. A pat-down revealed a Glock; as a felon with prior aggravated assaults, he pled guilty to firearm possession, earning 10 years without parole. Listener interactions include texts on traffic reports, a call from Kentucky's Mandy discussing positive police encounters and "Black fatigue" from excusing bad behavior with history. Clay emphasizes earned stereotypes, truth over agendas, and evolving the show with segments like local roundups. Wrapping up, Clay reflects on the show's growth, listener support, and balancing content with family time.
The legend passes. This is my story of the one and only time I saw Ozzy live. It was one hell of an adventure for sure! His influence had a profound affect on my life.
A sad show today, remembering the life of Ozzy Osbourne. Chaz and AJ spoke with Zakk Wylde back in March, about his excitement in joining the Ozzy farewell show. (0:00) Jimi Bell was one of the very last guitarist tryouts to be considered for the band, before Zakk Wylde was the selection. Jimi was on the phone with Chaz this morning to talk about the tryout process, having dinner with Ozzy, and jamming with Zakk after watching all the other guitarist hopefuls be sent home. (5:44) Live Nation's Jimmy Koplik was on the phone to talk about Ozzy's death, the rare sell-out feat Ozzy achieved in Connecticut, and explained why Connecticut always seemed to be able to book OzzFest dates. (27:20) Tribe memeber Kelly was on the phone to talk about the live tribute to Ozzy from last night in Hartford. Wolfgang Van Halen brought the house down with a rendition of "Mama, I'm Coming Home," and the Creed tribute was so Creed. (39:39) Doc McGhee, KISS manager, was on the phone with Chaz and AJ to talk about bringing Ozzy to Russia, and his close friendship with Ozzy and Sharon. (44:10) Carmine Appice, who drummed with Ozzy, was on the phone to remember his friend and bandmate. Carmine shared a story of Ozzy immediately being smitten with a Long Island burger joint after just one visit. (53:25) Don Dokken was on the phone to talk about the Jam at the Dam coming to Connecticut this weekend, but spent most his time remembering Ozzy Osbourne. (1:01:53)

We kick off episode four with a new segment spotlighting the concert photographers who work regularly at Pine Knob, and their work. Our first comes from Ken Settle, recalling when Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band were joined by a special appearance from former drummer Charlie Martin, who had been paralyzed from the waist down after an automobile accident in 1977. I Prevail was formed in Oakland County, Michigan during 2013 and made its first splash with a remake of Taylor Swift's Blank Space that became a viral hit in 2014. The quintet co-headlines the Summer of Loud 2025 package on Wednesday, July 16 at Pine Knob. Things stay heavy the next night -- Thursday, July 17 -- when Pantera and Amon Amarth will be rocking Pine Knob. This is Pantera's first headline show in the metro area since 2001, and its first Pine Knob appearance since OZZFest during July of 2000. Wrapping things up, Styx will not perform at Pine Knob until August 16. But on Friday, July 18 the veteran group releases its 18th studio album, Circling From Above -- the follow-up to Crash of the Crown in 2021 and Styx's third album in eight years after taking a 12-year break from recording.

It's summertime, and what better to talk about for music nerds in the summer than our favourite music festival stories from almost 40 years of festival going between the three of us, from Reading 1988 through to modern festivals like ArcTanGent & All Points East. There's tales of goth acrobatics, melted portaloos, terrifying french umbrella sharers, and lots of instances of Tracey having no recollection of seeing legendary bands, plus we program our fantasy festival lineup! You can find a link to a spotify playlist featuring most of the music in the episode here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6NYGVympNj7A97zN7JGAaM?si=c339bdec9221496fAs always, if you enjoy the music please consider supporting the artists by buying their records etc.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com

The Metal Maniacs Podcast – Episode 91: 5 Concerts That Changed Us Forever!Welcome to Episode 91 of The Metal Maniacs Podcast, hosted by *Jay Ingersoll and Nick Modd! This week, we're diving deep into the five concerts each that changed our lives forever—those once-in-a-lifetime experiences that left a permanent mark on our souls and solidified our love for heavy music. From the raw energy of death metal pioneers to the theatrical madness of shock rock legends, these are the shows that shaped us as metalheads. A few we talk about are### **Marilyn Manson – Dead to the World Tour (April 30, 1997 – Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo, MI)**One of the most controversial and unforgettable tours of the ‘90s, **Marilyn Manson's Dead to the World Tour** was a spectacle of chaos, aggression, and mind-bending theatrics. Supporting *Antichrist Superstar*, this show was packed with intense visuals, haunting performances, and a setlist that included tracks like *Angel With the Scabbed Wings* and *Antichrist Superstar*. The lineup was stacked with **Rasputina, Pist. On, and Helmet**, making for an eclectic and powerful night of music.### **Death – The Sound of Perseverance Tour (November 21, 1998 – I-Rock Night Club/Harpo's, Detroit, MI)**Seeing **Chuck Schuldiner and Death live** was nothing short of witnessing history in the making. Touring in support of *The Sound of Perseverance*, Death's performance was an absolute masterclass in technical death metal. This show featured some of Chuck's most intricate and emotionally charged compositions, and the energy in the crowd was off the charts. Death's legacy as one of the most innovative and influential bands in metal was solidified that night.### **Ozzfest 1998 – Pine Knob Music Theatre, Clarkston, MI (July 23, 1998)**Ozzfest ‘98 was an **era-defining** festival, boasting a killer lineup that included **Ozzy Osbourne, Tool, System of a Down, Limp Bizkit, Megadeth, Incubus, and more**. It was a whirlwind of moshing, scorching heat, and the sound of thousands of fans losing their minds to some of the biggest bands in metal history. This festival set the standard for modern metal tours and provided one of the most intense festival experiences we've ever had.### **Walls of Jericho – The Crofoot Ballroom, Pontiac, MI (August 19, 2023)**Fast-forwarding to a more recent gig, **Walls of Jericho** performed alongside **Bleeding Through, Dead to Fall, Let It Die, Through the Eyes of the Dead, and Too Pure to Die** for an unforgettable night of **metalcore brutality**. The energy at The Crofoot Ballroom was **explosive**, and it was incredible to see Walls of Jericho still bringing the same level of aggression and intensity that made them legends in the scene.### **Korn, Ozzy Osbourne & Deftones – Wings Event Center, Kalamazoo, MI (February 7, 1996)**A true **genre-defining moment**, this tour combined **nu-metal pioneers Korn and Deftones** with the Prince of Darkness himself, **Ozzy Osbourne**. This show was **a collision of worlds**, blending Ozzy's legendary metal status with the rising wave of nu-metal chaos. The atmosphere was electric, with mosh pits erupting and an unforgettable performance that left a lasting impression on us.Final ThoughtsConcerts are more than just performances—they're **rituals, shared experiences, and moments of pure catharsis**. These five shows (and the honorable mentions) helped shape our love for heavy music, and we know many of you have had similar experiences.Hit us up in the comments and let us know—what concerts changed YOUR life forever?Stay heavy,Jay & NickFollow us- https://linktr.ee/metalmaniacsmiThe Metal Maniacs Podcast

It is the one year Anniversary of the reboot of the Dark Mark Show and Mark and Hannah celebrated with quite a wild show featuring legendary scream queen Deborah Dutch, sideshow madman Dangerous D. and sword swallower Cyrus Pynn Deborah talked about how a cheerleading accident led to her not pursuing a life as a ballerina (though she still can do the splits as she demonstrated), having her grandmother's friend Agnes Moorhead of Bewitched fame see her in a high school play, how dating a soft rock star (and smoking weed with a Beatle) led to her relocating to LA, where she got the lead in Bruce Lee Fights Back from the Grave. She did her own stunts and was dubbed badly in that movie and moved on from there to share the screen with Goldie Hawn, be in Miami Vice, and work with Roger Corman and get dubbed an official “Scream Queen” in the 90s. She is now working on her own sword wielding series of films “Hollywood Warrioress” Dangerous D may be married and has a newborn son, but he is by no means any less outrageous. He claims to swing his son from his ears, offered to give Mark a tattoo on the air. He also talked about his journey from Baltimore where he hit LA with $100 to his name, how he got on Ozzfest, what it takes to impress him and land a spot on his “Shock Show” troupe of performers and why he is producing Cyrus' one man show as a one-time only performance. Cyrus is also known as Cydeshow Cy and Cyrus the sword. debuting his show “Down The Hatch” in February in Los Angeles. He started juggling, fire eating, sword swallowing and doing all sorts of sideshow acts in Virginia and came out to audition for Dangerous D during a performance at Ozzfest and ended up moving in with him. He talks about all that can go wrong if you make a mistake and demonstrated swallowing 2 swords and eating a lightbulb. Live Nation's Jimmy Koplik made a visit to the studio this morning, to spend time with Chaz and AJ in front of a film crew. A documentary is being made about Jimmy's career, and the Tribe called in to hear about some behind-the-scenes stories from the biggest Connecticut concerts. From the legendary Eagles show at the Yale Bowl (that nearly didn't happen!) to the time Jimmy was screamed at by Sharon Osbourne during OzzFest, and the riot during a Rage Against the Machine show that everyone seeems to remember like it was yesterday.
Billy Graziadei reflects on some epic tours and reunions, the interview kicks off with nostalgia over seeing Biohazard live alongside acts like Ozzy Osbourne, Sepultura, and Danzig. Memories resurface of Biohazard's early tours, including unexpected moments that kept the band from rejoining Ozzfest. Fast forward, the discussion dives into Powerflo's raw, intense process behind their latest album, *Gorilla Warfare*, which is built from heavy collaboration and Sunday jam sessions. Balancing multiple bands, each member is focused on their love for music over fame, bringing everything they've got to keep rock and metal alive. Reflecting on his band's unique blend of metal and hip-hop, Billy explains that their sound evolved naturally from their diverse influences, rather than a planned fusion of styles. He emphasizes that he doesn't intentionally write for one band or the other; instead, he allows songs to find their own place within his projects. When working with PowerFlo, he values the collaborative process, especially with vocalist Sen Dog, where ideas flow freely and they build on each other's strengths. This organic approach fuels a sound that feels raw and authentic, bringing the best of their musical backgrounds together. Papa Roach scored four #1 singles off their latest album, “Ego Trip,” including “Leave A Light On,” of which they're donating a portion of their royalties to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Frontman Jacoby Shaddix explains how suicide has touched his life dating back to the lyrics of the band's monster first single “Last Resort,” which just crossed the 1 billion mark in streams! He talks early days trying to get noticed and signed, selling music to kids waiting in line at Korn shows, the origin of his Coby Dick name, being arrested after the band's Ozzfest set in New Jersey in ‘01, the reaming he got from Sharon Osbourne, and the time Ozzy watched them from side stage in the pouring rain. He shares stories about their best and worst gigs, how they adapted to the changing music industry, why he loves social media so much, and what the band has planned for this year and beyond.
