On July 22, 2025, we lost Birmingham-born rock vocalist and cultural icon Ozzy Osbourne, rock's "prince of darkness," at the age of 76. His death, from complications due to Parkinson's Disease, ends a career spanning five decades, in which he pioneered an entire subgenre of heavy metal music, as frontman for Black Sabbath, before going on to an even bigger career as a solo artist, where he is credited for introducing the guitarist Randy Rhoads to the wider rock world, and for creating the wildly popular Ozzfest tours. Then, when he'd done it all, he and members of his family, Jack, Kelly, and his manager-wife Sharon, became pioneers of "reality TV" with the hit series, The Osbournes. On this very special episode, we hear two personal stories of how Ozzy's music and persona touched the lives of music industry professionals who were also, first and foremost, fans. And now for something completely different...in this special episode, we pay tribute to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne and each pick five of our favorite songs from the rock legend's career. So you may ask yourself, why are we doing an Ozzy episode on our classic alternative music podcast? We certainly don't want to be "those guys" who churn out opportunistic memorial episodes - but, quite simply, Uncle Gregg suggested "hey, we should do an Ozzy tribute" and Brett said "OK, let's do it." That's the way decisions are made here at O3L Headquarters...and six hours later, the episode is out to the world.  John "Ozzy" Osbourne passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, a little more than two weeks after his final performance at the Back to the Beginning farewell concert, a massive show that featured a who's who of heavy metal musicians, culminating in a five song Ozzy solo set and a four song finale from Black Sabbath.  Ozzy, of course, rose to prominence as the lead singer of Birmingham rock band Black Sabbath from the time of their formation in 1969 until his dismissal in 1979. Considered one of (if not THE) most influential bands in the evolution of heavy metal, Sabbath also consisted of guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, releasing a string of classic albums like Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970), Master of Reality (1971), Vol. 4 (1972), Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973), Sabotage (1975), Technical Ectasy (1976), Never Say Die (1978) before Ozzy launched a fruitful solo career. Solo records include 1980's Blizzard of Ozz, 1981's Diary of a Madman, 1983's Bark at the Moon, and 1991's No More Tears, intertwined with occasional Black Sabbath reunions, most notably their 2013 album 13. Osbourne remained at the forefront of pop culture through his popular Ozzfest tours and his unlikely stint as a lovable TV Dad on the reality show The Osbournes. Learn more about your ad choices. In Episode #1,026 of the Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards kicks off with technical glitches, sharing his early-morning foot pain—possibly gout or an injury from weekend activities—while soldiering through for two hours of raw commentary. The episode pays tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who reportedly passed at 76. Clay recounts the moment he learned of Ozzy's death while at lunch, sparking memories of the rock icon's wild life: snorting ants on tour with Mötley Crüe, biting bat heads, and Jackson concerts in '84 and '96. Local crime dominates: A chaotic interstate shooting on I-220 at Medgar Evers Blvd. left a 31-year-old man shot multiple times, with vehicles overturned—likened to Grand Theft Auto. Clay critiques Jackson's recurring violence, possibly road rage or gang-related, noting it rarely occurs elsewhere in the tri-county area, citing past incidents like a DJ's fatal shooting. In Canton, a potential hate crime unfolds: 33-year-old James Ross allegedly shot 47-year-old Troy Waldrop in the face at Camden Park Apartments over jealousy involving Ross's ex-girlfriend (Waldrop's niece). Clay attributes it to unchecked emotions, calling it the city's third murder, urging justice. Clay analyzes viral body cam footage from a Jacksonville, FL, traffic stop: A non-compliant driver, pulled for no lights and no seatbelt, locks himself in, demands a supervisor, and resists—leading to a window break, punch, and arrest for resistance and marijuana possession. He defends police, blaming entitlement and non-compliance, dubbing body cams "BLM's kryptonite." The FAFO (F***ed Around and Found Out) championship goes to 49-year-old DeShane Hamilton Collier of Jackson, arrested for public intoxication at a Pearl gas station. A pat-down revealed a Glock; as a felon with prior aggravated assaults, he pled guilty to firearm possession, earning 10 years without parole. Listener interactions include texts on traffic reports, a call from Kentucky's Mandy discussing positive police encounters and "Black fatigue" from excusing bad behavior with history. Clay emphasizes earned stereotypes, truth over agendas, and evolving the show with segments like local roundups. Wrapping up, Clay reflects on the show's growth, listener support, and balancing content with family time. 

The legend passes. This is my story of the one and only time I saw Ozzy live. It was one hell of an adventure for sure! His influence had a profound affect on my life.

A sad show today, remembering the life of Ozzy Osbourne. Chaz and AJ spoke with Zakk Wylde back in March, about his excitement in joining the Ozzy farewell show. (0:00)  Jimi Bell was one of the very last guitarist tryouts to be considered for the band, before Zakk Wylde was the selection. Jimi was on the phone with Chaz this morning to talk about the tryout process, having dinner with Ozzy, and jamming with Zakk after watching all the other guitarist hopefuls be sent home. (5:44)  Live Nation's Jimmy Koplik was on the phone to talk about Ozzy's death, the rare sell-out feat Ozzy achieved in Connecticut, and explained why Connecticut always seemed to be able to book OzzFest dates. (27:20)  Tribe memeber Kelly was on the phone to talk about the live tribute to Ozzy from last night in Hartford. Wolfgang Van Halen brought the house down with a rendition of "Mama, I'm Coming Home," and the Creed tribute was so Creed. (39:39)  Doc McGhee, KISS manager, was on the phone with Chaz and AJ to talk about bringing Ozzy to Russia, and his close friendship with Ozzy and Sharon. (44:10)  Carmine Appice, who drummed with Ozzy, was on the phone to remember his friend and bandmate. Carmine shared a story of Ozzy immediately being smitten with a Long Island burger joint after just one visit. (53:25) Don Dokken was on the phone to talk about the Jam at the Dam coming to Connecticut this weekend, but spent most his time remembering Ozzy Osbourne. (1:01:53)
