With the release of her latest single, the soulful and sensualromance “You Know What It's Like,” Brenda Russell not only continues to pave the way for her highly anticipated upcoming album Songpainter – her first collection in 20 years – but also makes a triumphant return to the refined classic blend of adult contemporary R&B and urban jazz that launched and defined the trailblazing four and a half decade career of the multi-Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, Tony nominated and Grammy winning Broadway composer for The Color Purple. “You Know What It's Like” is a co-write by the singer and the legendary Roberta Flack. When people assess Brenda's overall career, her success as an artist and with The Color Purple often overshadows the gemsshe wrote that were hits for other artists. Beyond Oleta Adams' “Get Here,” Brenda's gems have been recorded by Luther Vandross (“If Only for One Night”), Donna Summer (“Dinner with Gershwin”), Babyface, The Manhattan Transfer, Patti Austin, Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Ramsey Lewis. Her tunes have also been sampled by everyone from Janet Jackson and 2Pace to Chance the Rapper and Ariana Grande. In addition, Brenda's co-composition with Brazilian artist Ivan Lins “She Walks This Earth” was recorded by international superstar Sting for the all-star tribute album Love Affair: The Music Of Ivan Lins. Sting's inspired performance of the uniquely beautiful song earned him a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance. Brenda was recently elected into the Female Songwriters Hall of Fame. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

This week, we are honored to welcome R&B-Pop icon, Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and genius, Ne-Yo to the podcast. In this extensive conversation, Ne-Yo shares insights from his remarkable 20-year career, discussing his approach to touring then versus now, emphasizing his commitment to live performances over lip-syncing. He reflects on the recent "Mary J. Blige Strength of a Woman Tour" with special guest Mario, highlighting the amazing experience and the powerful moment of performing "You Should Let Me Love You" with Mario for the first time. Ne-Yo delves into his early career, including his challenging experience with Columbia Records and the creative freedom he found at Def Jam under L.A. Reid, which shaped his debut album. He discusses the evolution of R&B, the importance of male vulnerability in songwriting, and how it is a subject matter he still wishes to explore in his music. He and Chuck Harmony recount the serendipitous story of their first collaboration, which sparked Harmony's career and led to Ne-Yo writing hits for Céline Dion, Mary J. Blige, and Janet Jackson in a single night! Ne-Yo also shares the creation process behind his own hits like "So Sick" and "Closer," revealing how L.A. Reid strategically planned the release of "Stay" before "So Sick" as a "jab before the knockout punch." He recounts the surprising origin of Beyoncé's "Flaws and All," initially intended for Britney Spears, and how Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" album also came from songs originally written for Britney. Ne-Yo shares his desire to collaborate with Stevie Wonder, who, along with Michael Jackson, influenced his acceptance of his own voice. He also tells the wild story of his group Envy's disastrous performance on Showtime at the Apollo. Finally, Ne-Yo addresses his personal life, discussing his decision to be open about his polyamorous relationships and offering candid advice on honesty and living authentically. Joe Francis - Girls Gone WildOf all the late 90s and 2000s cultural phenomena to come under recent scrutiny – the Pam and Tommy sex tape, Woodstock 99, Abercrombie & Fitch, over-inflated Silicon Valley startups, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson's “wardrobe malfunction” – Girls Gone Wild is arguably the least surprisingly toxic. Started in 1997 by a fratty entrepreneur named Joe Francis, Girls Gone Wild sold VHS and then DVD videos of co-ed women, almost always intoxicated, baring their breasts on some hedonistic spring break trip in exchange for free underwear or hats.Francis dominated the soft-core porn market in the early internet days; millions of people purchased footage of the girls – often barely over 18 and sometimes younger, predominantly white, thin and blonde – getting badgered by cameramen to take more shots, take their tops off, make out with their friends, use sex toys on themselves. Obviously, this has not aged well. (Nor was it without controversy at the time.)Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Episode 76: Jerrod "J-Rod" Sullivan. If you're a drummer, chances are you've seen J-Rod pop up in your feed. He's one of the most exciting drummers to watch, and now he's holding down the drum chair for Janet Jackson. From uploading his first drum video to YouTube back in 2006 to building an audience of over 700,000 followers, J-Rod is living proof that consistency and passion pay off. We get into everything from his early days playing in church to building an online community of over 700K+ followers with his drum videos and how he creates them. We talk about staying consistent while on the road, and why authenticity is everything. Plus, we go deep into the Janet Jackson gig, talking about how it came together from a DM and the sacrifice he took dedicating 2 months to turn this Janet Jackson opportunity into a closed deal. I had to find out how in the world he plays the infamous “Control” drum fill, his gear setups, how he makes his social media videos (both the cameras, the audio, and the process), creating drumless tracks with the Moises app, his band The 4 Korners, staying sharp, and why it pays to act as if you already got the gig. J-Rod came through to my hotel room in Las Vegas to link up the next day after his show with Janet Jackson. I went to the show and it was incredible. After the show, we went out with Zedd until 5 a.m., and the next morning he went straight to AMA rehearsals with Janet, then soundcheck at Resorts World with Janet, then to my hotel room to do the interview, and then straight to his show with Janet that night. We were running on fumes for this convo, which made it fun in it's own way. We dive into his story, his viral rise, how he landed the Janet gig, and so much more. 主播:翩翩(中国)+ Selah(美国)音乐:Anywhere Is近日关于关于法国总统马克龙的一段“打脸”视频火了(go viral)。今天我们要聊的话题就是本次“打脸门”事件(Slapgate Incident)。01 Macron's “Slapgate” Incident 马克龙“打脸门”事件马克龙夫妇乘专机(on a private plane)抵达越南(Vietam)。But right before stepping off the aircraft (下飞机), they appeared to (疑似) have an argument. And in an awkward moment caught on camera, Brigitte appeared to slap the president's face. But Macron quickly snapped right back (立刻恢复原状) into a smiling, waving politician (政治家) when he noticed the camera.视频中马克龙反应非常快,网友调侃其“压力下反应迅速”(quick thinking under pressure)。But the internet went nuts (走红), and every major news outlet (主流新闻媒体) picked it up (报道).02 Media Headlines and Public Speculation 媒体标题与公众猜测Some people are low-key wondering (小声嘀咕) if there be trouble in their marriage. Foreign media also speculated (猜测) that there might be trouble in Macron and his wife's relationship.low-key wondering:小声嘀咕(欧美年轻人常用的话,吃瓜群众的小心思)Here is an international headline. International outlet Firstpost wrote: From student-teacher affair to slapgate: Inside Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron's scandal-ridden relationship从师生关系到打脸门:布丽吉特和马纽埃尔·马克龙丑闻缠身的关系内幕It is called student-teacher affair because Macron met Brigitte when he was 15. She was his teacher—25 years older and already a mom of three. They fell in love. In the end, he married her at 29. They've been together ever since.student-teacher affair: 师生恋(带有负面暗示)affair: 事情,可引申为风流韵事、不当关系A sexual relationship between two people, usually when one or both of them is married to somebody else.Eg. Somebody is having an affair. 某人有婚外情。scandal-ridden relationship: 丑闻缠身的关系A scandal-ridden relationship is a romantic connection (情感纠葛) between two people that causes a lot of public shock, criticism (批评), or disgrace (耻辱)—usually because it breaks social rules.slapgate: 打脸门It refers to any of various controversies involving a well-known person slapping another person or thing. It was when Janet Jackson's top accidentally came open (上衣不小心开了口) during the Super Bowl show (超级碗场秀) in 2004.Serious media outlets use the “-gate” for major scandals like Russiagate in a formal context, but when applied to minor incidents (小事件), it often carries a sarcastic tone (调侃色彩). 英文中大事小情都是“......门”,就跟表情包(memes)一样,开玩笑的意味比较重。有趣的是马克龙登机口被打脸事件称作“slapgate”有一个妙用,就是双关(pun),因为英文中登机口就是gate。After Macron got slapped, Twitter users came up with the savage nickname (很损的外号) “Smacron”-a brutal combo (一种残酷的组合) of “smack (掌掴)” and “Macron”.03 Macron's Explanation and Public Skepticism 马克龙的解释与公众质疑After the video went viral, Macron was quick to clarify—he said they were just horsing around, nothing serious, definitely not some domestic drama (家庭剧).horse around: 闹着玩It means to play in a silly, noisy, or rough (粗鲁的) way.Eg. We were just horsing around—it wasn't a real fight!我们只是闹着玩,不是真的打架!但外媒报道时,都把“horse around”这个词加了引号。Plenty of media outlets weren't buying it (不买账). It is basically saying: That's Macron's version…(这是马克龙的版本...)欢迎在评论区告诉我们:What do you think is going on? 你觉得是怎么回事呢?

In light of the serious allegations against Sean "Diddy" Combs, including charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, several celebrities are reportedly distancing themselves from him to protect their reputations. Notably, figures such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Ashton Kutcher, and Justin Bieber, who were previously associated with Combs' events, are now making efforts to minimize their connections. Additionally, high-profile individuals like LeBron James, Patrick Mahomes, Kim Kardashian, Janet Jackson, and Naomi Campbell have reportedly unfollowed Combs on social media or removed posts featuring him.Further complicating the situation, Ray J has claimed that certain celebrities are paying alleged victims to keep their names out of the scandal, suggesting a "catch and kill" strategy to suppress damaging information. He mentioned that some celebrities have approached him, fearing their associations with Combs might be exposed. We begin this deep dive by analysing the recent American Music Awards hosted by Jennifer Lopez, aka J'Lo. There's the sniff of MAGA about the entire show plus the obsession for famous women of a certain age, like J'Lo, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani & Janet Jackson, to not actually age. There's a side quest into Lindsay Lohan's restorative juicing routine, plus all the other AMA “moments” worth reflecting. The ageless divas obsession also brings up how much women are expected to do, with a side quest into the Human Rights lawyer who recently ran and won an ultramarathon, whilst breast feeding her 6 month old baby along the route, because of course she did. Then it's onto the problematic history of Dolce and Gabbana before we ‘Okay, Stop!' the new D&G fragrance commercial with Theo James. Then Em gives us her one page TED talk on why it's okay to be ogling Theo James. In our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em hilariously details how she shot her own nude photo shoot alone in her office after hours to launch her new book cover. The American Music Awards are finally back, baby—and the chaos did not disappoint. J Lo made out with her backup dancers, Janet Jackson made a glorious return, and Rod Stewart dropped the F-bomb in front of his kids. But the moment that stole the show? Shaboozey, while presenting with Megan Moroney, got the giggles when she credited The Carter Family with inventing country music… not Beyoncé and Jay-Z, as he apparently thought.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Give it a go with Kelly's Trivia and Sharon takes you back to 1996 with your 90's Rewind. Thank you for listening to 90's NOW!
Wake up, it's a beautiful morning! It's the spring of 1995. That most eclectic of decades, the nineties if you will, was no longer the new kid on the millennial block. Pop culture has boxed up the eighties for another day, had shaken off baggy, was in the process of returning grunge back to the US and was now striding confidently onwards with a swagger all of its own. The country was beginning to look and sound different. The political landscape was shifting towards something ‘new' and felt more relatable, and pop shared this sense of renewed optimism that, actually, anything was possible. Which, of course (you know the script by now) was perfectly represented in the eclectic tracklist of the latest, legendary compilation NOW, That's What I call Music as it reached yet another milestone with volume 30. The cover was new, the graphics were new, and the variously compiled selections represented what the nation was tuning into across TV (possibly with Chris Evans), radio (possibly with Chris Evans) or carrying home from the local music shop (possibly with, eh, no, actually).Springtime was giving us blooming boybands, blossoming Britpop, some classic returning popstars, and a VERY large slice of dancefloor tuneage. In fact, a WHOLE CD of it! Blimey, we were all mad for it, indeed! And, joining me for this poptastic 1995 episode is radio presenter, actor and massive pop tart (his words) Grant Stott.Discover how Grant, alongside Zoe Ball, really did make a big splash in 1995, hosting the BBC network Saturday morning show Fully Booked, alongside plenty of the artists on NOW30 - yes, even Jimmy Nail!Along the way, also discover which pre-NOW compilations inspired Grant's listening (there are some crackers!), how he ended up drunk with the Spice Girls (and the Krankies, but not at the same time, sadly) and laugh as two middle-aged men try and remember Eurovision facts and generally recollect a rather hazy year indeed!Expect starring roles from (amongst others) Janet Jackson, Massive Attack, Pato Banton (on several occasions) Cannon and Ball (!) and a plethora of NOW1 throwback stars. And find out which tracks on NOW30 would make it on to (shameless plug!) Grant's Vinyl Collective show every Friday at 6pm on BBC Radio Scotland. (You're welcome!) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 16ú lá de mí Bealtaine, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1986 bhagair John Boland go mbeadh sé chun rudaí a dhéanamh leis na pobail tógála mura mbeidís chun na rátaí úis a ghearradh. I 1997 tháinig an phobalbhreith amach ón olltoghchán agus tháinig sé amach gur chaill Fianna Fáil 3 pointe. I 1986 rinne an eagraíocht altranas aird a tharraingt ar an anordúil staid a bhí sna hospidéil sa tír agus tháinig siad amach le ráiteas a raibh criticiúil den chás a raibh san ospidéal in Inis. I 1997 bhí borradh I líon na mbreitheanna sa chontae agus chuaigh sé suas 12% I gcomparáid leis an bhliain roimhe agus laghdaigh an méid is mó leanbh a bhí ag fáil bháis chomh maith. Sin Johnny Logan le What's Another Year – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1980. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1987 chuaigh U2 chuig uimhir a haon I Meiriceá lena amhrán With Or Without You. Bhí sé a chéad uimhir a haon I Meiriceá agus d'fhan siad ann ar feadh trí sheachtain. Bhí sé a tríú hamhrán óna albam The Joshua Tree ó 1987 agus bhí sé a amhrán is cáiliúla. I 2009 chuaigh Bob Dylan chuig uimhir a haon I Meiriceá lena albam Together Through Life. Bhí sé a 33ú halbam. Fuair sé dhá ainmniúchán ag The Grammys I Best American Album agus Best Solo Rock Vocal don amhrán Beyond Here Lies Nothin. Bhí an t-albam seo suntasach de bharr go raibh sé uimhir a haon sa Bhreatain agus I Meiriceá ag an am céanna. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh aisteoir Megan Fox I Meiriceá I 1986 agus rugadh amhránaí Janet Jackson I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1966 agus seo chuid de a amhrán. Beidh mé ar ais libh an tseachtain seo chugainn le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 16th of May, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1986: Minister john boland threatened to get tough with the building societies unless they cut their interest rates quickly. 1997: the first opinion poll of the general election showed fianna fail support had slipped by 3 points. 1986: The irish nursing organisation highlighted the chaotic state of the irish hospitals and issued a statement which is highly criticial of the situation in the ennus general hospital. 1997: Clare experienced a baby boom last year with the total number of births increasing by 12% and the no. of infant deaths dropped to their lowest level ever. That was Johnny Logan with What's Another Year – the biggest song on this day in 1980 Onto music news on this day In 1987 U2 started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart 'With Or Without You', the group's first US No.1. The third track from their 1987 albumThe Joshua Tree the song was the group's most successful single at the time. 2009 Bob Dylan went to No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Together Through Life', his 33rd studio album. The album received two Grammy Award nominations in Best Americana Album category and Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance category for 'Beyond Here Lies Nothin'. The album also is significant as the only album by Dylan to top the US and UK charts consecutively. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – actress Megan Fox was born in America in 1986 and singer Janet Jackson was born in America on this day in 1966 and this is one of her songs. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2021 conversation with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. ABOUT JIMMY JAM & TERRY LEWISWith 26 Billboard #1 R&B hits and 16 Billboard #1 pop hits to their credit, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are perhaps the most influential and successful songwriting and production duo in modern music history. With a total of 41 Top 10 hits in the US, Jimmy and Terry were named ASCAP Songwriters of the Year a record-breaking nine times. They are perhaps best known for their work with Janet Jackson, beginning with the Control album, which earned the duo a Grammy for Producer of the Year. Between 1986 and 1994 they scored thirteen #1 songs with Janet on either the R&B or pop chart, including “What Have You Done For Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “When I Think of You,” “Control,” “Let's Wait Awhile,” “Miss You Much,” “Rhythm Nation,” “Escapade” “Love Will Never Do (Without You),” “The Best Things in Life Are Free,” “That's the Way Love Goes,” “Any Time, Any Place,” and “Again,” which earned Jimmy, Terry, and Janet an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Jimmy and Terry got their start as musicians with Morris Day and the Time, the Prince-produced band whose biggest hit was the Jam and Lewis-penned “Jerk Out.” They made the transition to a successful songwriting and production team working with the S.O.S. band, which landed a #2 R&B hit with “Just Be Good to Me.” From there, they made their mark on pop and R&B hits for decades to come. In addition to their work with Jackson, the duo wrote and produced the #1 pop singles “Human” by Human League, “Romantic” by Karyn White, “Thank God I Found You” by Mariah Carey, and the Boyz II Men singles “On Bended Knee” and “4 Seasons of Loneliness.” Additional R&B chart toppers include “Encore” by Cheryl Lynn, “Fake” by Alexander O'Neal, “Everything I Miss at Home” by Cherelle, “Sensitivity” by Ralph Tresvant, and the Johnny Gill singles “Rub You the Right Way” and “Wrap My Body Tight.” Other highlights from their catalog include New Edition's “If It Isn't Love” and “I'm Still in Love With You,” “No More Drama” by Mary J. Blige, Robert Palmer's hit pop cover of their Cherelle single “I Didn't Mean to Turn You On,” and recordings by Gladys Knight & The Pips, Barry White, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Usher, Spice Girls, Aretha Franklin, Charlie Wilson, Ledisi, Sting, Elton John, Beyonce, Rihanna, Rod Stewart, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, Willie Nelson, and many others.Always versatile, the duo has earned Grammy awards for Best R&B Album for Chaka Kahn's Funk This, Best Gospel Song for Yolanda Adams' “Be Blessed,” and Best Dance Recording for Janet Jackson's #1 pop and R&B hit “All For You.” Additional Jackson hits that were written and produced with Jam and Lewis include the Janet and Michael Jackson hit “Scream” and the #1 singles “Together Again,” “I Get Lonely,” “Doesn't Really Matter,” and the Nelly duet “Call On Me.”In total the team has earned over 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond album certifications from the RIAA, have received more Producer of the Year Grammy nominations than anyone in history, earned the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award, and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

For dinner, served after the 4 p.m. headcount, the menu offered choices like chicken or tofu fried rice accompanied by black beans and carrots. These meals mark a significant departure from Combs' previous lavish birthday celebrations. My guest today has been an integral part of my feminist awakening. Celeste Barber's instagram posts - which parody the unattainable standards of the fashion and beauty industry - are both hilarious and revolutionary. Her work has helped a generation of women to feel better about their bodies - and made her a star in the process. (Plus she's been blocked by a few celebrities. Lol.) Barber began her account in 2015 as a jobbing actor. She now has almost 10 million followers, including Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Handler and designer Tom Ford who ended up hiring her for a fashion campaign. We talk about imposter syndrome, ADHD, standing up to bullies and her Janet Jackson obsession. In episode 119, I catch up with Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller, the noise pop duo better known as Sleigh Bells. I have been a massive Sleigh Bells fan since their first few singles back in 2009 — brash, genre-defying bangers like “Crown on the Ground” and “Infinity Guitars” that sounded unlike anything else, combining elements of pop, metal, hardcore, hip-hop and punk. They've continued to blow my mind with the leaps they've made since then. The three of us are also old friends at this point, and though we've done shorter interviews in the past, it was great to finally get to ask them some of the classic LSQ podcast questions about all the shit they were into as kids. In this episode, Alexis talks about what she learned from her experience in a teen pop band, revelations she had at the punk and hardcore shows she frequented during her New Jersey youth, and learning to integrate the diverse parts of her musical voice. Derek describes falling in love with the soundtrack to La Bamba as a kid growing up in Florida, and then discovering 80s pop greats like Janet Jackson and Cyndi Lauper before venturing into alternative and hard rock (Nirvana, Silverchair) and then having his mind blown by ground-breaking artists such as Radiohead and Björk, and then eventually joining metal core band Poison The Well in his later teens. They also share the story of how they came together to form Sleigh Bells, and how their current approach builds on the foundational principles they established for the band more than fifteen years ago.Sleigh Bells' new sixth studio album, Bunky Becky Birthday Boy, comes out this week and it's stellar. Strike a pose! Two of the biggest pop divas have a message for the world, but do we unite for Janet or do we move to the music for Madonna? Only one pop diva can be the biggest star of 1990, so let us debate which it is, is it Madonna's "Vogue" or Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation"?
