Many racing people were predicting a bright future for Dylan Gibbons long before he made his debut at Taree in July 2020. Son of successful jockey Andrew Gibbons, the lanky youngster had been taken along quietly by his master Kris Lees and was the complete package by the time he was let loose. Dylan hasn't let his supporters down. In just four seasons of race riding he's approaching 400 winners including two Gr 1's. Caught up with the talented young rider last week for a comprehensive chat about his career so far. He talks about four seasons of success he never expected. Dylan talks about the workload of the modern day jockey with special mention of the barrier trial schedule. He talks of partner Nevada and the decision to stay in his hometown of Newcastle. The young jockey talks of his hectic 2023/2024 season and the holiday he was badly in need of. He admits he was late in making a decision to become an apprentice, but says his interest in racing was obsessive. Dylan reflects on the many days he spent at race meetings where his father had riding commitments. He says he found a way to keep occupied. He talks of his admiration for two Sydney jockeys in particular. He remains very friendly with Tommy Berry and Kerrin McEvoy. At one stage he was acting as valet for both riders. When Andrew Gibbons could see his son was deadly serious about becoming a jockey he took him to a local riding school. Dylan talks about the education he gained in the Kris Lees operation, and talks of his very first day at the races. He hasn't forgotten the magic of his first winning ride at Coffs Harbour. Dylan looks back on his first metro success and the unforgettable thrill of a Gr 1 win so early in his career. The jockey looks back on his second Gr 1 win. This time the winner was trained by his boss and staunchest supporter. Dylan acknowledges the part Semana has played in his brief career- only two wins but several Group placings. One of them was oh so close! He talks of a Brisbane Cup win for Bjorn Baker and his association with smart sprinter Buenos Noches. Dylan talks of his association with talented horses like Brudenell and Loch Eagle and a four race association with multiple Gr 1 winning mare Montefilia. He talks of brother Ryan and three year old half sister Hayley. Dylan pays tribute to his father's longevity and the great winning trot the elder Gibbons has been enjoying. He admits it's a tough road ahead competing against so many top riders on equal terms but says he's up to the task.

The special episode is brought to you live from Hand Fest! Shout Louder took to the stage with Robin Leitch from Random Hand and Dani Rascal from Faintest Idea, with the aim of resolving the dispute between their bands once and for all. Even if you're not familiar with the UK ska-punk scene, you're guaranteed a laugh out of this hilarious episode. Stay tuned to learn about Norfolk Jesus, the rumours of the Rhubarb Triangle, and to discover which band member may or may not be a secret Tory. The episode had our live audience in stitches and culminates in an epic battle of the thumbs. Celebrating 20 years of Random Hand, Hand Fest was an incredible two-day event at the Brudenell in Leeds, featuring bands like Sonic Boom Six, Riskee & The Ridicule and Popes of Chillitown. The event sold out in record time and the DIY punk community came out in force. Yorkshire's ska-core heroes Random Hand have an ongoing rivalry with Norfolk street-punks Faintest Idea, which began with a joke about cabbages but rapidly descended into online warfare. So, when the opportunity arose to debate this in front of a crowd, we simply couldn't resist. The episode also features a live version of Pack It Up by Random Hand, recorded at Hand Fest by the marvellous Andy Hawkins. Check us out at shout-louder.com or @shoutlouderzine on socials. You can find our book, featuring stories from both Robin and Dani, over at shoutlouder.bigcartel.com. We'll see you down the front!

Finally, we celebrate the founding of the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation. Features guest interviews Dr. Ed MacDonald, Catherine Hennessey and Dr. Alan MacEachern.
When wildlife is in decline the world over, how do we raise more funds for conservation, and ensure these funds are spent to have the greatest impact locally? Today's guest thinks she has found the answer. Jade Brudenell is the Executive Director of the Conservation Collective, an organisation with a mission to increase the amount of funding available for the most effective front-line nature restoration initiatives. They do this by connecting donors with a close affinity to a specific location, with local foundations who then re-grant the funding to grass-roots conservation initiatives to protect the environment, restore nature and safeguard against climate change. It's an innovative, scalable and exciting model. During the podcast Jade tells us the story of Conservation Collective, and how they are securing new funds within the sector to create impact. We also discuss the importance of fundraising skills within the sector, along with her career story and what she looks for when hiring new staff. It's a wide-ranging, fascinating and honest discussion about one of the most important issues facing conservationists. Enjoy.

Episode Description: In the first episode of Duchess season 2, the Duchess of Rutland travels to Deene Park in Northamptonshire to meet Charlotte Brudenell. In the show, Charlotte introduces the Duchess to the eccentric Earl that was immortalised by one of English poetry's greatest works, the ladies discuss Deene Park's incredible association to the Magna Carta, and Charlotte reveals the ‘saucy' 19th century discovery that would have made many of the time blush. Top Quotes: "The past is to cherish; the future is to relish." - Charlotte "The great thing about living in heritage is that we take on what our predecessors tell us, bless them for having been and then go forward to do our little bit. It becomes a great tapestry." - The Duchess "You have to put a 21st century influence or adaptation onto something that's older because we ultimately have to live in these houses and we can't let them rule us." - Charlotte "These houses were built to be shown off." - Charlotte "My job is to make sure the house exists, is looked after, is maintained. I'm the defender of Deene. " - Charlotte About the Guest and Stately Home: Charlotte married her husband Robert Brudenell in 1998. In the year 2000, the couple had their son and, since 2013, the couple have run the estate full time. Deene Park is a Tudor and Georgian Mansion. Before the Norman Conquest and for 150 years afterwards, the Manor of Deene belonged to the Abbey of Westminster and was used occasionally by the Abbot. Various families, including the Colets and the Lyttons leased the property until it was acquired in 1514 by Sir Robert Brudenell. Brudenell Estates comprises approximately 10,000 acres of land. The house was built over six centuries and grew from a substantial quadrangular-plan medieval manor into a Tudor and Georgian mansion, whose main front now faces south across the Park and Lake. The collections within contain Tudor Manuscripts, Old Masters and Family Portraits, porcelain and military memorabilia from the Crimean War. The gardens of Deene are a big attraction including the Rose, Golden, and White gardens. The most striking feature of the gardens at Deene Park is the box hedge parterre designed by David Hicks in the early 1990's. The unique four topiary teapots are a memorial to the late Edmund Brudenell as his tea was his favourite drink. About the Host: Emma Rutland, The Duchess of Rutland, did not always stride the halls of stately homes. Born Emma Watkins, the Duchess grew up the daughter of a Quaker farmer, in the Welsh marsh countryside. She trained as an opera singer in the Guildhall School of Music, and worked as a successful interior designer before meeting her future husband David Manners, the 11th Duke of Rutland, at a dinner party. Their marriage in 1992 would transform Emma Watkins into the 11th Duchess of Rutland, thrusting her into the world of aristocracy, and handing her the responsibility of one of the nation's great treasures: Belvoir Castle. While simultaneously running the day to day operations of the castle, and raising five children, The Duchess became fascinated with the history and importance of the other stately homes. Join The Duchess as she embarks on a wonderful journey through time, to learn more about the incredible homes that have defined Great Britain and, most importantly, meet the other extraordinary women who work tirelessly behind their doors to preserve their history and magic for future generations. It's been a while since the trumpets blared here at the Roundtable, and it's high time we got down to the business of celebrating the achievements of our creageous Guest Writers! Today we honor Michael Brudenell who - in Episode 33, back in October 2012 - stepped up and pitched his story to the mighty Nathan Lowell, Brion, and myself. We had a blast working through Michael's tale of Kung-Fu, secret societies, and the special powers manifested in the man caught in the middle of it all. The froth of that brainstorm has born fruit and today, the world can pre-order "Rise of the Paladin (The Warrior's Path Book 1)" a martial arts tale that takes place at the cross-section of urban fantasy and grimdark (featuring cover art by the astonishing Shawn King). We couldn't be more delighted to see this culmination of Michael's hard work and commitment. Hit that "PLAY" button and join us backstage at Michael's epic Knighting Ceremony! And check out Michael's RTP Knight Profile Here (with links to all his internet goodness) The Knighting Ceremony of Michael Brudenell [caution: mature language - listener discretion is advised]
