We analyze the records and accolades, the strengths and potential vulnerabilities of each athlete on each team, and the strategic paths to victory that each team might pursue. In our preview, we start with Team 10th Planet. We discuss the interesting team dynamic and how EBI pioneers like Geo Martinez and EBI 19 Champion Alan Sanchez, who are specialists in the submission-only format, will integrate with a newer CJI Quintet format. Send us a textEvan Cantor, Burt Rashbaum, and Roland LaForge have always been musicians. They've all worked to become professional musicians, but ultimately, they couldn't find a way to make a living through music. They never stopped playing, though. The three joined forces for the first time in the 2000s. Cantor and Rashbaum worked in the same building at the University of Colorado Boulder, and Cantor jumped in to play music with Rashbaum and LaForge as a bassist.Cantor tapped in for the bassist of a band that Rashbaum and LaForge were a part of, Too Much Jones, named after the founders and head brothers of the band, Mark and Craig Jones. On one of the nights Cantor tapped in for rehearsal, only he, Rashbaum, and LaForge came to the rehearsal room. The three decided to jam and see what happened, and they realized they could form a band on their own. Craig, wanting to step away from a long-term band project, is now considered one of the godfathers of the new project the three formed, now called The CBDs. On today's episode, I tell you why I love the booking of Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O'Malley 2, and why I think it'll be different this time around. Then, I talk about Ian Machado Garry's decision to step in on short notice against Carlos Prates, and why I believe it's a massive fight for each guy.Meanwhile, Mateusz Gamrot says he's the backup fighter for Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett next weekend, but I'm not sure I actually believe him. Plus, I explain why a loss to Diego Lopes might end Alexander Volkanovski's storied career. Also, I thought Craig Jones vs. Gable Steveson in a grappling match was an April Fools joke, but apparently it's real ... and I like it! Grappling Rewind: Breakdowns of Professional BJJ and Grappling Events
This week on the show Maine and Miranda preview Nick Rodriguez vs Victor Hugo for the fourth time this time serving as the main event on the Fight Pass Invitational 10. During the preview we discussed all of the three previous matches that are taken place over the last five years and discuss the style of the match up with Victor's guard versus Rodriguez's passing. We discussed the late leg lock attempts that Rodriguez historically has thrown. We also talk about the changes in the dynamics of the match over the years with a move from longer and longer range passing from Nicky Rod. We talk about how the change of rule set may play into the matchup, resulting in a reliance on scoring points later in the potential for negatives to be awarded throughout the match for things like inactivity. We also give our picks for how we think the fourth iteration of this match will take place and how the result of the Craig Jones invitational may factor into how each camp goes into this matchup for the fourth time.Recorded 2-24-2025
