The Festival of the Lion King is an Animal Kingdom Must do for most, opening in 1998. The show was relocated from Camp Minnie-Mickey to an indoor seating location in Animal Kingdom's Africa in 2014 to make way for Pandora the World of Avatar. The show isn't a recreation of the movie, but rather a celebration of music and culture of the Lion King. Post pandemic, the show returned as "A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King” a modified version mindful of the continuing pandemic conditions at the time, Adjustments took place onstage and backstage, including updates to choreography and temporarily pausing some show elements to allow for appropriate physical distancing. Most notably, the tumble monkeys. Disney recently announced the return of the original production in the summer 2022, this recording is the post-pandemic, “socially” distanced version. The show includes classic songs like “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” and a finale including “Circle of Life.” https://youtu.be/gByKq_t0ZI0

Festival of the Lion King was an opening day attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom when it opened at Walt Disney World on April 22, 1998. Throughout the last 22 years, the show hasn't changed much (other than a location change from Camp Minnie-Mickey to Africa) because it remains a fan favorite devoted to the 1994 Disney animated film. In this episode, we'll discuss The Festival of the Lion King in detail, covering its history, details, fun facts, and a binaural recording of the full attraction from 2019. We'll also discuss why it's a must-see attraction at Walt Disney World and is especially perfect for families with young kids. This week we took a look at (hopefully) all of the retired/discontinued attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort. Notably, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Great Movie Ride, The Wonders of Life Pavilion, Camp Minnie-Mickey and so much more! As Walt Disney said, Disneyland (and World) will never be completed. We will keep building, which means they'll keep upgrading and changing and evolving many aspects of the parks. Sometimes that means they get rid of some of our favorites. Thanks to the internet, you can relive those memories with ride through videos on YouTube and lots of nostalgia on Disney fan websites.... and listening to us talk about them. Did we miss one of your faves? Let us know. Please make sure you're subscribed on your preferred platform, and if you can spare a moment to Rate & Review, that'd be swell! http://www.attractionchecklist.com - One of the most popular shows at Disney's Animal Kingdom, heck in just about any Disney park, is Festival of the Lion King. In this episode, I head to the Harambe Theatre to check it out! Recorded on March 21, 2019. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode I head out to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World to see the long running show Festival of the Lion King. Located in the Africa section of the park, Festival Of The Lion King is described in the guide map by saying: Come inside and experience the pageantry and puppetry of this big as Broadway show. There are no height requirements for this attraction and FastPass Plus is available. Before we head to the Harambe Theatre to see the show, here are five fast facts about Festival of the Lion King. 1. Festival of the Lion King debuted at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on April 22, 1998. 2. The show opened in a theater in the Camp Minnie-Mickey area of the park but in 2014, the show took a hiatus as a new theater was built. The former location in Camp Minnie-Mickey was replaced with Pandora - The world of Avatar. 3. Many of the floats in the show are repurposed from Disneyland’s Lion King Celebration parade that ran from 1994 to 1997. 4. Festival of the Lion King features a cast of 50 performers who require over 130 costumes! 5. In March of 2016, a small fire broke out in the elephant float during the show. Guests were evacuated and the fire was quickly put out with no injuries and not much damage reported. Now let’s enjoy Festival of the Lion King. After the show I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction and, as always, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now! This is Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! The attraction audio recorded for this episode is available exclusively to the Saturday Morning Media Patron Patron. Welcome to the third part of the 'Lost Lands' - a series of closed attractions, forgotten announcements, and especially those plans that never made it off the drawing board. Today, Austin will discuss the never-realized fantastical Beastly Kingdom - an intended part of Disney's Animal Kingdom's Part II Expansion at it's opening. The dragon from this land is even in Animal Kingdom's logo some 20 years later! Austin will also explore the tumultuous fate of the fantasy-inspired land, where dragons and unicorns would have come together to round out the west side of the park where a temporary Camp Minnie Mickey stood. So… hold on tight as we uncover the forgotten lands of Disney's Animal Kingdom and Universal's Island of Adventure. Special thanks to Austin Vaughn for his help in writing this episode. We are thrilled to be joined again by Jim Korkis in this episode to talk about more stories and details behind some of the classic attractions in Walt Disney World theme parks. In this episode, he focuses mainly on Disney's Animal Kingdom, Pandora - The World of Avatar, and the land that it replaced - Camp Minnie Mickey. Jim is a Disney historian and author of "Secret Stories of Walt Disney World", who has interviewed and talked to countless Imagineers and Disney cast members who have played a role in creating these amazing theme parks and their attractions. He is a wealth of Disney knowledge, and it is fascinating to hear him talk about some of these stories behind the theme parks. This is Part 2 of a segment with Jim that originally aired on Episode 258 - Secret Stories of WDW. If you missed it, be sure to check it out today!

WDW Radio # 481 - Beastly Kingdom - The Walt Disney World That Never Was Long before anyone ever dreamed of Pandora: The World of Avatar, or even Camp Minnie-Mickey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, original plans for Walt Disney World’s fourth theme park included an exciting, radical, new concept. This kingdom of animals was going to include not only those that were real, but once that were ancient and imagined... a kingdom to be ruled by lions, dinosaurs and dragons. This week, we will turn back the clock on our Wayback Machine and explore the land that never came to be - Beastly Kingdom. We discuss how and why this land of mythical beasts got on the drawing board, virtually tour the attractions and environments, look at why it never came to be, why we’ll likely never see it at all, and where you can still find remnants of it in the park today. In this episide Annie and Dan talk about more Avatarland related news, with the release of the first attraction blueprints and the close-date for Camp Minnie-Mickey. They discuss the highest selling items at the Food and Wine Festival, the allure of the cranberry bog, the release of some ultra-realistic magnets, and Frozen's appearance in Norway's Church. Then they start in on discussing the weird opinions of Disney forum posters and their preliminary thoughts on My Magic Plus.
Jambeaux, everyone!!! Welcome to another episode of the Magic Our Way podcast. We are 21 shows old today and we are feeling very adult!!! We have a great show for you today as we explore another aspect of park life that has never seen the light of day. In this week’s Queue, we once again address several topics which peaked our interest for discussion while waiting in the queue. Disney performs a “Hat trick” at the Rose and Crown Pub in the United Kingdom pavilion in EPCOT Center. The last bastion of Merriweather Adam Pleasure’s vision has finally left the building. You can now recharge and discharge in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. We talk about the lineup of narrators for the 2013 Candlelight Processional. With the coming of new things that one must do, we will soon see a new version of Must-Dos on resort TV starring the lovely, and always perky, Stacy Aswad. And lastly, for those wishing to become part of the magic, we discuss some upcoming auditions taking place soon. In the Hub, we discuss the missing, yet ever referenced, land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Beastly Kingdom. This land was supposed to be located where Camp Minnie Mickey is today. Through research we talk about what the land was supposed to look like, what the details of the attractions and restaurants were to be, and the eventual demise of the plans for this remarkable land. We feel that this is a land that could have done really well since its opening and we are sad to know that it might not happen. Maybe in the future, who knows? After all, “if we can dream it, we can do it.” As always, if you like the show, please rate us and leave a review in the iTunes Store. We do appreciate you taking the time to do so. Also, you can find us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@magicourway). Find some of our video statuses on Keek.com.
