Professor Liz Oakley-Brown returns to the pod to discuss the play Thersites (c.1537) attributed to Nicholas Udall and based on a dialogue by from Joannes Ravisius Textor - the play features a snail fight, and much more - part of our build up to our season of Henrician drama. This episode was recorded live on zoom on Tuesday 10th June at 7.15pm 2025. For more on the medieval manuscript side of things - over on BBC Sounds (where available) is Knight Fights Giant Snail. We reference Marie Axton's Three Tudor Classical Interludes which is the only modern edition of the play that we are aware of. We will be staging Thersites live on Sunday 22nd June 2025 at the Quay Theatre - tickets for the show are available here. But if that's not possible we have two exploring sessions online - a vanilla First Look, and a super charged Second Look. CW: We keep this fairly Universal, but towards the end we do discuss a death. Entertaining Henry is a co-production with The Quay Theatre and Beyond Shakespeare... Let us take you through a whistle-stop tour of the entertainment world from Henry's reign: from his youthful days to his more fractious later life, we will share the history of his reign through the plays he and his subjects enjoyed. Play along with our Tudor Bingo Card, catch the pop-up merry tales, and enjoy entertainments fit for a king! Friday 20th June at 7.30pm Show 1 - Welcome to Henry's Court! (1509 to 1520's) We welcome you to the Court of the newly-crowned King Henry! Let us introduce you to all the major players on and off stage, the rules of the court, and perform some of the earliest plays to survive from his reign – plays designed to curb Henry's boisterous ways. https://quaysudbury.com/events/entertaining-henry-show-1-welcome-to-henrys-court/ Saturday 21st June at 7.30pm Show 2 - Reformation: More vs Cromwell (1520's to 1530's) As the Reformation hit England, different factions created dramas around the political rifts at court. The literary set that orbited Thomas More presented traditional debate on one side, whilst the rising star of Thomas Cromwell commissioned his players to write revelations on the other. https://quaysudbury.com/events/entertaining-henry-show-2-reformation-more-vs-cromwell/ Sunday 22nd June at 7.30pm Show 3 - Snail Fight! And Other Tudor Shenanigans (1530's to 1547) We close our festival with some of the sillier plays from the end of Henry's reign – featuring a sword fight with a snail, an ecclesiastical bust up in a church, and the epic conquest of the monster Tediousness! https://quaysudbury.com/events/entertaining-henry-show-3-snail-fight-and-other-tudor-shenanegans/ Season discount for each show - £14 for one show, £26 for two shows, £36 for all three Book Tickets Now for Show 1! Episode Summary: It's National Donut Day on The Coffee Club, and things get sticky—in the best way possible. Janae and Ronnie kick off the show munching on Sandy's doughnuts and sliding into a hilarious mix of small-town charm, wild skincare experiments (hello, snail secretion cream), and heartfelt community events. The duo chat about everything from accidentally texting your boss about diarrhea (oops!) to the powerful patriotism behind a multi-city flag exchange motorcycle ride across North Dakota. You'll also meet Macy, a rising star in the station, and hear all about a food truck fest with a mission to feed more than just your belly. Sprinkle in some Rod Stewart updates, fish-related frisbee golf incidents, and pumpkin-carving smack talk, and you've got a fun, flavorful Friday episode.

Two French friends, a garden full of 50,000 snails and a dream. A foodie duo in Queenstown are bringing molluscs to the mountains, with the launch of the region's very first commercial snail farm. It's called "Otago Escargots" and the pair plan to start supplying top-end Queenstown restaurants with fresh, locally raised snails, in about a year's time. Otago Southland reporter Katie Todd has the story.
FEELING THINGS WITH AMY & KAT: Amy kicks things off with Exhibit A for Kat: a very important tangerine (you’ll get it when you listen). Then they answer a listener's question about a line in their podcast theme song (Walker Hayes is a lyrical genius) and Amy shares a DM with explosive claims about the Karen Read trial. Kat’s Feeling of the Day is ‘Playful’ and she encourages us to randomly pretend we're on vacation to give your weekend date nights fresh new vibes. They close out with unhinged (but funny) parenting hacks from Instagram and share exciting news: until May 30th you can save 25% off of snail serum (see link & code below!) Greetings writers! Sarina here. Earlier in May I was surfing social media, as one does, when I came across a story about children's author Erica Perl and an ill-fated school visit. Her scheduled visit to a school was abruptly canceled. After asking a few questions, it was determined that a single parent had objected to… Well, it's hard to say. We'll let Erica tell her story. But you should know that Ms. Perl's twenty years of book publishing have included such salacious titles as When Cookie Met Carrot and A Whale of a Tea Party. (

Send us a textIn this Volcano Minisode, Katy introduces one of the most extreme animals on Earth: the scaly-foot gastropod, a deep-sea snail that literally builds metal armor from volcanic hydrothermal vents. Found over a mile below the ocean's surface, this snail survives crushing pressure, toxic heat, and total darkness—all thanks to a symbiotic relationship with bacteria and its one-of-a-kind iron shell.

In this episode, we break down the myth that being fast is the only way to succeed. In a world that's constantly rushing, it's easy to feel like you're falling behind if you're not moving at top speed. But what if your pace is actually tied to your purpose? We use the example of a snail's steady pace to show how each of us has a unique rhythm that works for us. Discover why slowing down at times can be just as powerful as speeding up, and how to find a balance that helps you show up in your best way—without the pressure to keep up with everyone else.#pace #productivity #conflict #myths #purpose #temperment #skill #will #emotions #mindset Connect with Dr. Stephen V.
