Episode 215:Last time Ben Jonson regained his stride in the public theatre with his comedy ‘Volpone', an at moments sparkling satire of greed and avarice. Just about the only parallel I can draw between this and Shakespeare's next offering, ‘Timon of Athens', is that the study of greed appears in both, but they are very different plays in tone, character and intent. Shakespeare not only continued in his recent sombre mood but deepened it significantly with this play. If you can meet her price in time, that is. session advertisement for the 2025 RinCon Tabletop Gaming Convention Setup Welcome to the newest campaign by Dicey Stories! Rogue Trader: Escape from Nullia is a tabletop roleplaying campaign set in the universe of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K. It takes its inspiration from the WH40K Rogue Trader video game from Owlcat Games. Our characters start as nobodies, but they are ambitious seekers of knowledge and authority who will do what they must to survive. The release of each episode's audio will be accompanied by a serialized, narrative write-up of the adventure. So give a listen, read along, or enjoy both formats! Rogue Trader: Escape from Nullia is played using the Genesys roleplaying system now published by Edge Studio and the Mythic GM Emulator by Tana Pigeon. Our main resources for this campaign are the Genesys Core Rulebook and Shadow of the Beanstalk. We sometimes reference fanmade WH40K supplements such as Dark Heresy from Hoob and Rogue Trader Genesys from Anthony Arcarola, as well as Environmental Set Pieces from Kainrath, a supplement for Genesys's older sibling, the Star Wars Roleplaying Game. (For other examples of us combining Genesys with the Mythic GM Emulator, see our Resh Hour and Cruise Control campaigns.) Background If you know nothing about Warhammer 40K or Rogue Trader, that's fine! Neither did I prior to starting this game. But if you do know this IP, don't worry; Danielle is quite familiar with the universe from reading novels, playing the Rogue Trader video game, and listening to the Valentyne Heresy actual play from Dumb Dumbs and Dice. This campaign started as a one-shot prepared for the Southern Arizona Gamers Association's 2025 RinCon Tabletop Gaming Convention. Danielle ran it a total of three times in that format, and the story wrapped up in four hours. Once she and I began playing it using the Mythic GM Emulator, however, it spun off in a completely different direction and took on a life of its own. Our PCs started as pre-gens that Danielle made for her module, so they had less personalization than the PCs from some of our recent campaigns. After playing for a little while, we made some adjustments to the characters to suit our liking and then continued on from there. The write-ups of this campaign will primarily be from Timon's perspective, with occasional annotations from Corille.

This has been the most difficult piece I have ever written for Cities and Memory. What could I add to a recording made by Patti Langton of a young Moru man - Timon Beri? The recording was of Timon singing and playing a lamellophone. Whatever I ever I did, it felt like cheap exploitation. The recording was beautiful, authentic and real.In my research I came across a paper by Patti Langton called Personal Reflections on Fieldwork: A Moral Dilemma and it resonated and hit hard with how I was feeling about what I was creating with this field recording. In the end, with the deadline fast approaching I separated Timon's voice from the lamellophone and decided to use his voice as a sort of tribute to him, even though it was heavily processed. As I was scouring for further inspiration, I found a vocal sample which says "we dance, we dream, we love" and this became the title of the track as well as being the light in the piece. Up to then it had been a brooding dark piece of dark electronica which I felt represented not only my frustration but also the backdrop of war and famine which was and still is so prevalent in Sudan. After all, what can a piece of music be against the backdrop of so much human tragedy, but I felt the lyric spoke of the human experience that everybody, from whatever culture, race or creed can identify with. A kinsman of the Apostle Paul, the Holy Stephen was one of the seven deacons (with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas) first appointed by the Church to minister to the people; and it pleased God to receive him as the Church's first Martyr for Christ. Read the long, beautiful and edifying account of his witness in the Acts of the Apostles, chapters 6-8. When Stephen, "full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people," (Acts 6:8), some members of a synagogue in Jerusalem came to dispute with him and, enraged by his proclamation of Christ, stoned him to death. In his death St Stephen revealed Christ's erasure of the boundary between heaven and earth, and the new communion between man and God: his face shone with the light of the Transfiguration, and he was granted a vision of Christ enthroned at the Father's right hand. His dying words were "Lord, lay not this sin to their charge" (Acts 7:60).   According to holy tradition, the martyrdom of St Stephen occurred exactly a year after the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. His body was taken and secretly buried by Gamaliel, a member of the Sanhendrin and secretly a Christian.   Saint Stephen's relics were discovered by the priest Lucian in 415 following a vision. They were translated to the church built for them in Jerusalem by the Empress Eudocia, and later taken to Constantinople.   The Saint's missionary speech before his death (like that of the deacon St Philip to the Ethiopian eunuch) reminds us that those appointed to serve the Church materially are not barred, or even excused, from proclaiming the glorious Gospel of Christ.
