Minha vida é um testemunho de que a conquista exige suor, luta e trabalho. Nada,absolutamente nada, foi fácil. Minha jornada rumo à aprovação em um concurso público foi umcaminho longo e árduo, que se estendeu por oito anos, recheado de estudos intensivos e,inevitavelmente, reprovações, até que o sucesso finalmente chegasse.A luta começou em meados de 2010. Naquela época, eu estava concluindo o Ensino Médio naEscola Estadual Dr. Fontes Ibiapina e, naquele mesmo ano, obtive a aprovação no vestibularda UFPI (o antigo PSIU Geral) para o curso de Licenciatura em Matemática.Motivado, iniciei a empreitada nos concursos públicos. O primeiro que prestei foi o concursomunicipal da Cidade de União, no Piauí, com a banca Machado de Assis, resultando naprimeira reprovação. Em seguida, fiz o concurso municipal para a cidade de Esperantina, PI. Abanca continuava sendo a mesma e, mais uma vez, fui reprovado.O concurso de Esperantina, no entanto, foi peculiar e marcou profundamente minha memória.Viajei para a cidade apenas com o dinheiro da passagem. Chegando lá, sem condições depagar um hotel, pedi informações aos policiais sobre um local público para passar a noite. Elesme acolheram, permitindo que eu dormisse na delegacia. No dia seguinte, tomei café com ospoliciais, e eles me levaram até o local de prova. Mesmo com todo esse esforço e ajuda, fuireprovado.As tentativas continuaram. No concurso municipal de Luzilândia, PI, havia 15 vagas e 3.000pessoas disputando o meu cargo. Conquistei o 16º lugar, ficando fora da quantidade de vagasofertadas e, novamente, sendo reprovado. Prestei o concurso do Banco do Brasil com lotaçãopara Teresina-PI e não obtive êxito.Avançando para as esferas federal e estadual, fiz o concurso público para a Polícia RodoviáriaFederal, com lotação em Teresina-PI, onde fui classificado, mas nunca fui convocado. Prestei oconcurso público municipal da Câmara de Piripiri-PI, sendo classificado, mas igualmente nuncaconvocado. A decepção se repetiu no concurso público estadual do Conselho Federal deMedicina do Maranhão, com lotação para Caxias, Maranhão. Eram apenas quatro vagas e aprova foi realizada em São Luís. Fiquei empatado em quarto lugar, mas os critérios dedesempate me levaram a mais uma reprovação.Finalmente, o ano de 2018 chegou. Nesse mesmo ano, fui aprovado no vestibular específico doIFPI para o curso técnico em contabilidade. Foi então que saiu o edital do concurso públicomunicipal da prefeitura de Caxias, Maranhão. Adivinha a banca? Era a mesma, a Machado deAssis, que já havia me reprovado diversas vezes.Desta vez, minha estratégia foi diferente. Resolvi as provas dos anos anteriores, dediquei maisde seis horas de estudo por dia, assisti a todas as aulas disponíveis no YouTube e pesquiseiexaustivamente assuntos relacionados à prova.Mesmo com toda a preparação, o destino tentou me impedir de realizar a prova. O ano foimarcado pela greve dos caminhoneiros, que paralisou o país. Lembro-me de ter passado o diatodo trabalhando e, ao final do expediente, ter que viajar para Caxias-MA. A dificuldade parachegar à rodoviária de Timon, Maranhão, foi terrível. Encontrei a mesma dificuldade paracomprar a passagem e chegar a Caxias, pois as estradas estavam sendo paralisadas. Mesmoassim, com imensa dificuldade, consegui a passagem e cheguei em Caxias à meia-noite.A prova aconteceria no domingo pela manhã. Eu estava muito confiante, apesar da alta concorrência para o cargo de Operador de Infraestrutura (50 vagas). Desta vez, foi diferente:eu já conhecia a banca, e o esforço foi recompensado. Fiquei classificado na 36ª posição,obtendo a tão sonhada aprovação.Oito anos de luta encontraram seu final, mas a espera não havia terminado. Tive que aguardarlongos quatro anos pela nomeação. Finalmente, no dia 2 de março de 2023, tomei posse noauditório da prefeitura municipal de Caxias, no Maranhão, concluindo a jornada com a certezade que cada reprovação, cada noite mal dormida....

We sit down with veteran comics artist Howard Simpson (who also works under the pen name Poppy) to explore his diverse career that began after earning his BFA from Tyler School of Arts and working as a commercial artist during the 1980s for major clients including Action News, Bantam Books, Sony, and various Fortune 500 companies. Howard shares his transition from commercial work and fanzine contributions to breaking into professional comics with DC, working on titles like Green Lantern, The Outsiders, Secret Origins, and Young All-Stars, as well as inking Dark Horse's Captain Crusader. We dive into his prolific 1990s work across multiple publishers including First Publishing's Grimjack and Munden's Bar, Heroic Comics' Captain Thunder and Blue Bolt, Icicle, and League of Champions, Topps' Ray Bradbury Comics: Martian Chronicles, and his extensive contributions as penciller, inker, and background artist for Acclaim's Valiant imprint series like Turok, plus his work illustrating Timon and Pumbaa stories for Disney Adventures. Acts 6:1-7In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

A new name might be on the way, too. Charlie Beirne, the Galleria’s general manager, floated the idea of renaming it the “Cobb Convention Center” during a meeting Wednesday. “It’s simple, clear, and gives us national recognition,” he said. The authority’s board agreed, though Chair Jerry Nix admitted, “It’s not just a name change—there’s a lot of headache involved.” Meanwhile, the $145 million Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre is also eyeing a rebrand, with naming rights expiring in 2027. A new sponsor could bring fresh funds to keep the venue cutting-edge. Renovations for both facilities are well underway, with the Galleria’s upgrades—including a grand entrance, expanded meeting spaces, and a sleek new look—set to wrap by early 2027. It’s the end of an era for the Galleria Specialty Shops, but Beirne says the revamped space will better serve the community and attract larger events. As for the Performing Arts Centre, a marketing firm has been hired to find a new name sponsor. Both projects signal a fresh chapter for these iconic Cobb landmarks. STORY 2: Kennesaw to increase sanitation rates Starting Nov. 1, Kennesaw residents will see a 6% bump in their sanitation rates. That means the standard monthly service—one trash can, one recycle cart—goes from $32.50 to $34.50. Got an extra trash can? That’ll now run you $19.50 a month, and additional recycle carts are $6. The increase hits December bills, but if you’ve prepaid for the year, you’re safe until your service period ends. Auto-pay users? Better update your payment info to dodge late fees. The city says it’s been eating rising costs for four years—18% higher, to be exact. “This adjustment was overdue,” Councilman Antonio Jones said, noting it was finalized with the 2026 budget. Republic Services, the city’s contractor, will continue handling trash, recycling, and yard waste. STORY 3: Health officials warn of measles in Georgia  Georgia health officials are keeping a close eye on seven people who may have been exposed to measles after contact with infected individuals. On Tuesday, the state Department of Public Health confirmed three new cases, including one on Sept. 11. Two of the patients are unvaccinated, and the third? Their vaccination status is unclear. All three are isolating at home. So far, 268 close contacts have been identified, but only seven are under “active” monitoring. Officials stress vaccination is the best defense—kids should get their first dose between 12-15 months and a second by age 6. This year, Georgia has seen 10 measles cases, up from six last year. Nationwide, cases have been climbing since the pandemic disrupted routine vaccinations. Meanwhile, a CDC advisory panel recently stirred controversy by recommending standalone chickenpox vaccines for toddlers instead of the combined MMRV shot. The American Academy of Pediatrics pushed back, calling the move “misguided” and warning it could erode trust in vaccines. Break: Ingles Markets 4 STORY 4: New art exhibits in Marietta blend the personal, political and the abstract Two new exhibits are turning heads at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, running through Dec. 14: Craig Drennen’s “T is for Timon” and Ahmad Hassan Taylor’s “History Lessons.” Drennen, a Guggenheim fellow and Georgia State professor, spent 17 years crafting his Shakespeare-inspired collection. “Timon of Athens,” a play Shakespeare himself never staged, serves as his muse. “It’s a bad play by a great playwright,” Drennen quipped. “I use bad things to make good things.” His bold, abstract works—painted to mimic collages—are designed to last centuries. Taylor, known as the “Atlanta Illustrator,” makes his debut with striking cityscapes and politically charged pieces. One standout, “All In Favor (Of Hate),” features a white horse surrounded by biting commentary on perception and truth. Both artists will host free talks—Drennen on Nov. 1, Taylor on Dec. 14. Admission is free on Oct. 5, Nov. 2, and Dec. 7. STORY 5: Cobb extends student housing moratorium Cobb County’s moratorium on student housing applications just got another six-month extension, as officials wait for Kennesaw State University to wrap up its housing study. The Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday—no debate, just a quick vote—to keep the pause in place until spring 2026. This is the second extension since the ban started in October 2024. Community Development Director Jessica Guinn said it’ll likely be the last. The issue? It’s messy. Commissioner Keli Gambrill isn’t a fan of purpose-built student housing, saying KSU should handle its own housing needs. Chair Lisa Cupid, on the other hand, has pointed out that many students can’t find affordable housing because of county rules limiting unrelated people from living together. Meanwhile, not everyone’s on board with the moratorium. During public comment, Donald Barth didn’t hold back. “Have y’all bumped your heads?” he asked. “We need student housing. It brings growth, tax dollars, and no problems—at least not where I live.” The county plans to revisit the issue once KSU’s study is done, with potential updates to the student housing code included in the new Unified Development Code. What marked some of the greatest movements of the early Church? It was normal, everyday, ordinary people who position their lives and say, "here I am, my yes is on the table. I want to be a part of the revolution. I want to be a part of the story that God is writing."In this Sermon Pastor Thomas studies what marked 3 of the greatest christian movements in history. Amy Wax, professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania, talks to Timon about her cancellation, the state of academia, and western civilization.    Amy Wax is a tenured professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she has taught since 2001, holding the Robert Mundheim Professor of Law chair since 2007. A native of Troy, New York, she earned a B.S. summa cum laude in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale in 1975, a Marshall Scholarship to Oxford, and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1981, where she trained as a neurologist. She completed her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1987, serving as an editor of the Columbia Law Review. Wax clerked for Judge Abner J. Mikva and argued 15 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court while working in the Office of the Solicitor General. She taught at the University of Virginia School of Law from 1994 to 2001. Her academic work focuses on social welfare law, family policy, and labor markets. Alcibiades leads his troops past Timon's hideout in the wilderness, prompting a barrage of insults and mockery from the malcontent. But when Timon learns Alcibiades is planning to take over Athens, he gives him gold to support the campaign. Alcibiades is followed by the Poet and Painter, who Timon turns away with another barrage of insults. When thieves come to rob him, Timon cheers them on, baffling their efforts and sending them to the city to sow chaos in the streets. The Senators are the last to arrive. Flavia heads them off in an effort to win Timon over to their side before they meet.
