Last month, President Trump signed an executive order directing federally run insurance programs, including Medicaid and TRICARE for military families, to drop coverage for gender-affirming care. Last week, Oregon’s attorney general joined a lawsuit with Washington State and Minnesota against the Trump administration over that order, which also seeks to cut off federal funding from institutions that provide hormone therapy, puberty blockers and surgical treatment for people under 19. The state’s largest Medicaid provider, CareOregon, covers medically-necessary, transition-related health care, which is currently required under state law. Eric Hunter, President and CEO of CareOregon, joins us to discuss how the health insurer is responding to the demands of the federal government.

The healthcare organization CareOregon has purchased a former Red Lion Hotel in Seaside, Oregon, with the goal of turning it into both workforce housing and permanent supportive housing for people with behavioral health needs. CareOregon's Columbia Pacific CCO will run the building and provide mental health and addiction treatment support. Two-thirds of the building will house healthcare workers. Mimi Haley, executive director of Columbia Pacific CCO, and Amy Baker, executive director of Clatsop Behavioral Health, join us with the details of the project.

As part of CareOregon's initiative to create a more robust care management program, the organization has found new ways of stratifying members and identifying high-risk members, explains Rebecca Ramsay, B.S.N., M.P.H., CareOregon's senior manager of care support and clinical programs. Ms. Ramsay also explains how daily data from CareOregon's emergency departments is informing their member outreach strategy. Ms. Ramsay will share the strategies that CareOregon is using to segment patients by complexity to ensure that case management resources are allocated effectively during "Case Management: Identifying, Monitoring and Managing Target Populations," a 60-minute webinar on September 16, 2010.
