Bi-national artist Paola Villaseñor, known as Panca, is from Chula Vista and has spent over half her life in Tijuana. After her mother's death in 2005, she moved to Tijuana, where she found inspiration in the city's creativity, nightlife, affordability, and danger. Her art reflects themes of feminism and humanity's decay. "With art, you work with your heart, and it can become dark when you expose your vulnerability, but it's also pure. Art has been my therapy, my burden, and my savior." Panca's career took off with her solo show, “I Am the Architect of My Own Misfortune,” at Bread & Salt in 2020, accompanied by her first book, “Los Perdidos.” Her mural "Respect the Paleteros," featuring a distressed and melting ice cream cone, has become an icon in San Diego's Barrio Logan neighborhood. This episode mentions the Slow Baja Winter Expedition, Benchmark Maps Baja Road and Recreation Atlas, and the Pee Sport Bottle.Follow Panca on InstagramSupport the Slow Baja PodcastSubscribe to our YouTube ChannelBuy Baja Bound Insurance

What a great way to wrap up the week with Tim from Chula Vista Brewery, a fancy wax top bottle. A small batch beer that normally only gets as far as the Chula Vista Brewery Mug Club, a bourbon barrel aged Belgian Trippel that doesn't drink like it's 12%!
Turning it to 11, as Tim from Chula Vista Brewery brings a louder version of his War Planes Hazy Pale and completely forgets there's a standard IPA between Hazy Pale and Double Hazy IPA. This beer is everything War Planes is but more...more hops, more body and more ABV!
Tim from Chula Vista Brewery continues to drop bombs (figuratively). War Planes Hazy Pale Ale is a collaboration with another veteran owned business Warplanes that makes wood surfboards that pays tribute to their military service and the POWs with a light bodied, easy drinking, floral pale ale that gives you all the feelings of a Hazy IPA with a lower ABV.
Flexing on not only their core beer line up, but also their collaborations! Tim from Chula Vista Brewery pops the top on a brand new collab with Seek Brewing, a Mexican Style Dark Lager called Shoot From The Hip. This incredibly small batch beer is one to see out for those who love a crisp malty lager on a warm San Diego Spring day.
This week we are South Bay all the way at Tim from Chula Vista Brewery drops in to showcase what the brewery has been up to for the last 8 years. Our first intro into his world is their Light Blonde Ale Guerita, that is super crushable at just over 4% with a very light body and crazy drinkablity.
San Diego is changing fast, and not all of it is good—or is it? In this video, we break down seven massive projects that will reshape the city, from the long-awaited $3.4 billion airport upgrade to the controversial Seaport Village overhaul and the Midway Rising redevelopment, which could finally bring an NHL or NBA team to town (or just another overpriced concert venue). We also explore Chula Vista's ambitious waterfront transformation, the flashy new Gaylord Pacific Resort, and San Diego's first-ever Top Golf—because nothing says "progress" like drinking and missing golf balls with a view. Plus, the arrival of San Diego's new Major League Soccer team could be a game-changer… if locals actually show up. So, will these projects make San Diego even better, or are we headed for an expensive mess? Let's dive into the madness that is San Diego 2025!

Here is my holiday episode! This year has been tough for a lot of people and the divisive climate we are in as we head into 2025 isn't going to improve right away. A lot of people I am talking to are feeling less than festive these days and are experiencing a lot of dread and anxiety. So, to try to have a happy holiday and new year I have brought in a professional to help us. Peter Bolland is an author and professor of philosophy and humanities at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California where he has taught world religions, Asian philosophy, world mythology, and ethics for 34 years. I wanted to find out what the world spiritual traditions have to say about peace on earth and good will toward men- especially when we are not feeling it. Peter shares his views on ways to handle uncomfortable feelings as well as uncomfortable conversations. This isn't a “political” episode although we do talk about the current climate we are in. The idea is to try to move forward in times of great division and find ways to access common ground. That is my intent, and I hope it is accepted in that way.
