A Their Story interview with Sean Martin & Marco Ciappelli Guest: Mahesh Rachakonda, CISSP, VP - Product & Solution Engineering, CipherCloud The organization telling us their story today is CipherCloud. Companies are comprised of people. It is the aggregation of individual stories that give character and life to the brand they represent, the products they develop, and the customer interactions they create. With this in mind, we often like to start our conversations with some personal notes about our guest; and that’s precisely how this one begins. With a background rooted in engineering, computer science, and middleware systems development, Mahesh Rachakonda, CISSP, VP Product & Solution Engineering at CipherCloud, has worked on several complex systems, including those found in hospitality, telecommunications, and even some military installments. Taking the story beyond his role in the industry to that of CipherCloud’s story—which began back in 2010—Mahesh explains to us that the main company message and goal was all about enabling cloud adoption; something that initially took quite some effort to get organizations and people prepared and ready to trust this new operating environment. The company’s message, mind you, didn’t land solely on capability such that it left security out of the equation. In fact, since the company’s inception, security has been taken very seriously. The mission is to help companies protect their data in the cloud, no matter what cloud environments they were working with: from Salesforce to ServiceNow, Office 365, Google, Zendesk, and many more. As businesses adopted these cloud technologies, they also began to realize that there was a lot to understand concerning how and where security policies, controls, monitoring, and response were handled. This challenge is exacerbated given the sheer number of cloud environments running countless applications and services—which can vary dramatically depending on the industry and widespread use cases within each. Can you say “Shared Responsibility” without cringing a little bit? One additional point we touch on during our cloud security conversation is that the flexibility and constant change associated with this environment are some of the key challenges organizations face. Chenxi Wang has had a diverse career in the technology industry, Before her current position as Chief Strategy Officer at Twistlock, she was Vice President, Cloud Security & Strategy at CipherCloud, Vice President, Strategy and Market Intelligence at Intel Security, and Vice President at Forrester Research.
