De acuerdo con el Reglamento de Seguridad y Salud Ocupacional en Minería, los trabajos en espacios confinados son considerados actividades de alto riesgo debido a las condiciones críticas que pueden presentarse en su interior.A continuación, se presenta un resumen de los estándares y requisitos obligatorios para este tipo de labores:Un espacio confinado es aquel lugar de área reducida o con aberturas limitadas de entrada y salida. Ejemplos comunes incluyen maquinaria, tanques, tolvas o labores subterráneas donde existen riesgos como la falta de oxígeno, presencia de gases tóxicos o sustancias inflamables.Al ser un trabajo de alto riesgo, es obligatorio contar con el Permiso Escrito para Trabajos de Alto Riesgo (PETAR). Este documento debe ser:Autorizado y firmado para cada turno por el Supervisor y el Jefe de Área donde se realiza la labor.Colocado de forma visible en el área de trabajo.Para garantizar la integridad de los trabajadores, se debe cumplir con lo siguiente:Monitoreo de Atmósfera: Es indispensable contar con equipos de monitoreo de gases que tengan certificado y calibración vigente para verificar que el área sea segura antes y durante el ingreso.Verificación previa: En tanques cisterna o de almacenamiento, se debe asegurar que el espacio esté libre de sustancias tóxicas, asfixiantes o explosivas antes de permitir el acceso.Equipamiento: Se debe disponer de equipos de protección personal (EPP) adecuados, equipos de comunicación y equipos de rescate.Una de las medidas de control más críticas es la designación de un vigía de trabajos en espacios confinados, quien debe permanecer permanentemente en el exterior, cerca de la entrada, para supervisar la labor, mantener comunicación y activar protocolos de respuesta si fuera necesario.Si una labor subterránea ha estado paralizada por uno o más días, no se permite el ingreso de personal sin un PETAR y sin haber realizado previamente la medición de oxígeno y gases para asegurar la habitabilidad del lugar.La prevención de accidentes por "gaseamiento" (asfixia o intoxicación por gases) es un curso fundamental dentro de la Capacitación Básica obligatoria, con una duración mínima de tres (3) horas según el Anexo 6 del reglamento.Analogía:Entrar en un espacio confinado sin monitoreo previo es como sumergirse en una piscina a oscuras sin saber qué tan profunda es o si el agua está limpia; el vigía y el medidor de gases son los "ojos" y la "luz" que garantizan que el trabajador pueda entrar y salir de manera segura.
