Former WA premier Colin Barnett says a "nation-building" gas pipeline connecting WA with the east coast would kickstart a new resources boom and solve the nation's growing gas shortage. Barnett says the pipeline would be 2500km long and cost about $5 billion to build, but could be up and running in little more than a year, providing a steady stream of gas from WA to the industry in NSW and Victoria, where he told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont there was a genuine crisis. "It's not one that is going to be solved in a couple of months, electricity prices are going to rise by up to 50 per cent in the next two years, we've already gone up 18 per cent in the last couple of months," he said.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The long-awaited inaugural journey on Perth's new airport train link this weekend will include Anthony Albanese among its VIP passengers. The $1.86 billion Airport Line jointly funded by the State and Federal governments has faced delays amid safety concerns, flooding and injuries to workers since the first sod was turned by Colin Barnett six years ago. Transport Minister Rita Saffioti detailed the times the public can ride the new train line for free. "You can through the tunnel, under the Swan River, under the runway, it's a pretty sensational ride," she told stand-in Breakfast co-hosts Julie-anne Sprague and Mark Gibson, admitting the government's initial forecast of the train line transporting 20,000 trips a day was an estimate from 2015 and unlikely to be achievable.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Colin Barnett, Former WA Premier told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live it is time for the station to be demolished. "It's a Power Station that has simply out-lived its life. There's a lot of contamination around the site, some that was cleaned up by Western Power at a considerable expensive, " he told Oly. "The McGowan genuinely has tried to find a use for it, but I think the reality is, it's a massive building that;s been closed for 40 years. It's declining, there's concrete cancers through it and I imagine to try and save that building will cost tens and tens of millions of dollars."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Queen travelled to WA seven times during her reign, and Perth was the last Australian city she ever visited. That was in 2011, when Colin Barnett was the Premier and he hosted Her Majesty for three days in Perth before CHOGM, while also meeting her at Buckingham Palace too to discuss CHOGM preparations. As he tells Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings, he told the Queen the Perth foreshore was to be redeveloped and named after her. "It was there that I wanted to raise [the naming of Elizabeth Quay], but I was advised by the Brits and the Australian embassy in Perth that we should do it more formally."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
