Have you ever found yourself stuck, staring at a blank page, willing the words to flow, but nothing comes? If creating content sometimes feels more painful than productive, you're definitely in good company with the majority of business owners. But how do you switch on your creativity in the middle of a busy day? Today, we're tackling writer's block head-on, and I promise, the simple shifts we explore in this episode will change the way you approach your creative work. Imagine being able to create any day, with confidence and ease, even when you don't feel “inspired.” Yes, it's possible. Joining me for this fascinating conversation is Nina Worsley, a jazz singer and classically trained composer now working as a creativity coach. Nina has an incredible knack for helping women uncover what's holding them back creatively and harness that energy to move forward. As someone who has had to perform and create under strict deadlines (and pressure!) in her own career, Nina's insight is practical and encouraging - she's been through it all herself and has mastered the art of igniting her best creativity on demand! Here's a taste of what we cover: Why does writer's block really show up, and how is it tied to your confidence and self-perception? What does it actually feel like to be “blocked” and how do you know if you haven't truly processed what you're trying to communicate? How can you quickly switch your brain from a busy mode to a creative mode, even if the rest of your day's been chaotic? What simple, quick exercise can help you unlock creativity in just a minute? How do you find your creative strengths, even if you don't think you're creative at all? This conversation is honest, practical, and so uplifting. If you're ready to break through your creative blocks and create content that feels truly aligned, you'll want to tune in to this one. Ophira has a story for you — one about Frank Evans, the 81-year-old Salford-born matador who now splits his time between Seville and Worsley like it's the most natural thing in the world. Yes, that's right: matador. While the city proudly boasts of luring the BBC up north, appearing behind the Smiths in That Photo, and producing Paul Scholes' right foot — somehow, Frank slips through the net. But this is a man who traded Eccles cakes for cape work, and against all odds became one of the only Brits to ever rise to bullfighting's top tier. Hosted on Acast. Graham Marks produces exuberant, coil-built ceramics adorned with vibrant glazes, which combine functionalism with visual delight. Of late, Marks has embraced loose, sinuous forms from which coils of clay spill in dynamic and improvisatory compositions. His candelabras and flower vases contain a wild energy all their own, full of brash, linear abandon. In their merging of pattern and embellishment, they recall the intricate crafts of eighteenth-century France, bringing rococo flourishes to the timeless theme of utilitarian vessels. Marks taught ceramics at Kansas State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he was Head of Ceramics from 1986 to 1992. His work has been exhibited internationally and collected privately; it is held by numerous public institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, Detroit Institute of Art, the Everson Museum, the Museum of Art and Design, the Cranbrook Museum of Art, the Stedelijk Museum, the Hermitage Museum, and the National Gallery of Australia. From 1992 to 1995, he studied acupuncture with J.R. Worsley, establishing a private practice which ran successfully for two and a half decades. In 2020, Marks returned to ceramics. He splits his time between Brooklyn and Alfred, NY. Graham Marks, Collection of Candelabras, 2023–24. Glazed stoneware, thrown, coiled, and pinched. Dimensions vary. Courtesy of Hostler Burrows. Our guest today is Leta Herman, an Alchemical Healer, Chinese Medicine teacher, author and host of the Inspired Action Podcast. Leta has immersed herself in the philosophies of Daoism, Alchemical Healing, and Chinese Medicine for over twenty years. A long-time student of Master Jeffrey Yuen, an 88th generation Daoist priest, she is also a graduate of Eliot Cowan's Plant Spirit Medicine studies program. Additionally, Leta has studied extensively with teachers and former students of J.R. Worsley, who brought Five Element Acupuncture to England in the 1960s. In this episode we discuss the fascinating evolution of Chinese Medicine in today's world and how the practice emphasizes our elemental constitution. We learn about the distinctions between TCM, Classical, and Five Element approaches. Leta shares her own transformative journey from skepticism to deep healing, and how her battle with endometriosis led her to embrace Daoist philosophies. We explore innovative healing approaches like the non-needling needle technique in acupuncture and the use of the Ghost Points for mental health treatment. Leta emphasizes the need for practitioners to create a safe and non-judgmental space for healing, recognizing that illness can often be seen as a choice between potential or pathology. This perspective encourages a shift in how we view and approach healing, fostering a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between physical, emotional, and spiritual health. From clearing "chaotic energy" to the nine stages of alchemy for personal transformation, don't miss out on this rich discussion that seamlessly blends ancient wisdom with modern healing practices. As founder of the Alchemy Healing Center, a Chinese Medicine teaching clinic in the USA, Leta is dedicated to helping clients find their true potential through Alchemical transformation. She describes her practice as “very unique and diverse, focusing on ancient Chinese healing practices that are largely unknown today in the Western culture.” A Smith College graduate and past nationally syndicated journalist, Leta is a world explorer who speaks multiple languages, loves life and her family.letaherman.comalchemyhealingcenter.comLiked what you heard? In the late 60's and early 70's of the last century East Asian medicine began to emerge into mainstream culture. The Reston NY Times article is often cited as a catalytic moment that put the idea of Chinese acupuncture into the minds of Americans. But other streams of medicine from Japan and Korea were also finding their way into the imagination of those who would be a conduit that would help these methods to flourish in the mainstream of Western culture.Peter Eckman has been a unique bridging influence. His acupuncture came from the currents of Korea, as well as Japan and Taiwan via the Worsley tradition of England.Listen into this conversation on inquisitiveness, constitution, and how saying “yes” in pivotal moments opens up a world of possibility.
Kia ora e te whānau! This week, Eugene and Matt have the distinct pleasure to speak to Greig Hamilton and let us tell you this has been a long time coming! In case you don't know, Greig Hamilton became the first Kiwi finisher of the Barkley Marathons. It was his third crack, having knocked off fun runs in 2019 and 2022. This year there were five finishers, including the first female finisher, Jasmine Paris. Barkley is a five-loop course in the Frozen Head National Park in Tennessee. Greig is from Christchurch, he's a two-time world champion in the Rogaine, and, by all accounts, one of the most self-effacing human beings around. However with the help of our sources we managed to crack the nut for a wonderful conversation – five years after we first asked him. We talk about Greig's beginnings in sport, how he was “abysmal” at running (then got better), adventure racing, the burden of an endeavour like Barkley on loved ones, the difference between suffering and enjoyment, and some details about the race itself. Henry Worsley was a husband, father, and an officer of an élite British commando unit; also a tapestry weaver, amateur boxer, photographer, and collector of rare books, maps, and fossils. But his true obsession was exploration. Worsley revered the Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton and he had led a 2009 expedition to the South Pole. But Worsley planned an even greater challenge. At fifty-five, he set out to trek alone to ski from one side of the Antarctic continent to the other, hauling more than three hundred pounds of gear and posting an audio diary by satellite phone. The New Yorker staff writer David Grann wrote about Worsley's quest, and spoke with his widow, Joanna Worsley, about the painful choice she made to support her husband in a mortally dangerous endeavor. This segment originally aired March 2, 2018.
