Today… we're going skiing! And we're doing it in style in France, Switzerland, Italy, and other European destinations. I wanted to pull together this episode not only because skiing in Europe is an amazing cultural experience, but also because it's looking pretty darn good from a value perspective right now. The Euro and Dollar are currently on par and lift tickets and lessons are massively cheaper in Europe than in the US.  Our guests today are the brother and sister team, Rick Reichsfeld and Richelle Blanken. The duo grew up skiing competitively, both raced in college, and then Richelle even raced in the Olympics. When Richelle left the national team - brother and sister teamed up to find a way to make a living from helping others experience the joy of skiing and the duo are our partners in planning amazing ski trips around the world for Bell & Bly Travel clients.   We discuss everything from Michelin starred mountain food, to unique lifts across Europe, to the most luxurious resorts, spas, and even non-skiing winter activities.  Sit back with a cup of hot chocolate or a glass of champagne, and enjoy this episode of Luxury Travel Insider.   Learn more at www.luxtravelinsider.com   Connect with me on Social: Instagram LinkedIn

AJ Hurt's passion for skiing and ski racing began at a very early age. Growing up in North Lake Tahoe, Palisades Tahoe was her winter playground. At four years old, she entered the Team Palisades Tahoe and fell in love with the sport. With a father who has been a member of the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol for the past 30 years, Hurt was raised a true member of the Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley) family. At 14, Hurt was invited to be a part of the National Training Group. As a first-year FIS racer in the 2016-17 season, she was the top junior for birth year 2000 in NorAm qualifying race points—not only in the speed disciplines but also the technical disciplines. Hurt scored her first World Cup points in 2020 placing 18th in the Courchevel giant slalom. The 2023-24 season was a major breakout year for Hurt. Each World Cup race she improved upon the last scoring person best after person best. In Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, Hurt had a major slalom result scoring third place, her first ever World Cup podium. Then later in the season she did it again! This time in giant slalom, a third place in Soldeu, Andorra. AJ and I discuss injury, going fast, control and lack of control, the recent NCAA women's final four, and what aggression in women's sports looks like now. And she talks about the not-glamourous, living-out-of-a-bag-for-6-months World Cup tour. This episode is a perfect follow up to last week's episode with rock climber Beth Rodden because AJ too likes being in the mode of figuring things out, which she was happy to share with us. I like that mode as well! Always looking for a little bit of improvement or some greater understanding of how things work. After 6 years of listening, I've finally taken the decision to take the train to the Alps and am very much looking forward to it."  Episode 204 about Vail Resorts prompted a LOT of feedback: Simon Burgess: "Really enjoyed the last episode on the Epic Pass. As someone who has used it a lot it's exciting what's on offer and what could develop. I still think some of the partner agreements are a rip off with special lodging needed to get a pass, but for Andermatt, 3 Valleys and the Dolomites it's been brilliant. It was fantastic in Andermatt: show the Epic Pass and they give you a season pass which I'm pretty sure is sold for more” Andrew Brannan: "Eye watering ticket prices, all the top management jobs taken out of resort, all teh restaurants and hotels, shops and even estate agents bought up by the same monopoly, aggressive property development, workers forced to live down the valley" Chris Howie: "It feels as if Vail Resorts are trying to wring every last penny out of resorts while providing the very minimum in return. In most of the Vail Resorts-owned resorts prices have gone sky high so only the rich can ski. Ski passes are almost three times the price of a European ski resort. Lift lines are unbelievably long. The local staff are removed to bring in centralised American staff, ripping the heart out of the resort. I will do my best to never ski at a resort owned by the Vail Resort organisation" Jane Henderson: “You should've given him a bit of a grilling on the negative impact of Epic/Ikon passes” If you like the podcast, there are three things you can do to help:   1) Review us on Apple Podcasts or Spotify 2) Subscribe 3) Book your ski hire with Intersport Rent using the code ‘SKIPODCAST' or simply take this link for your discount to be automatically applied at the checkout   You can follow Iain @skipedia and the podcast @theskipodcast

After two weeks of frenzied and close-fought action, the Tour leaves the Alps with its leader holding the biggest lead of this century. As the race pauses in "Chickentown", these are RadioCycling's headlines...At Combloux and Courchevel, Jonas Vingegaard became the demolition man, putting a wrecking ball through the general classification and eviscerating Tadej Pogačar. With scepticism of his performances spreading, we get a Danish perspective on the Jumbo-Visma leader and his place in his country's sporting pantheon, and also hear from his team director Grischa Niermann. Sunday will be Peter Sagan's last day at the Tour de France. Winner of 12 stages and a record-setting seven green points title jerseys, the Slovak remains one of the peloton's most popular racers and also one who has had an immense impact on the sport. We hear from his right-hand man, Daniel Oss, about what made Sagan such a phenomenon when he was in his pomp and examine why his road career is ending in relative anonymity. As one Tour de France ends, riders are gathering in Clermont-Ferrand for the start of another, the Tour de France Femmes. We hear from race director Marion Rousse about this race's second edition, which not only features the event's first sortie into the high mountains with a finish atop the Col du Tourmalet and its first time trial, but leads up to those tests with six stages full of tests and potential traps in the Massif Central and France's south-west. Spencer and Johan reveal their favorites, and a few select wildcards, to win tomorrow's brutal seventeenth stage, which takes the peloton through the heart of the Alps and tackles four categorized climbs, including the high point of this year's race, the massive Col de la Loze, before descending down into the finish line in Courchevel. For the second straight stage, the odds give bettors a very solid chance of returning a profit by forfeiting some potential upside. Listen in to see how the duo navigates this. And, as always, make sure to stick around to the end of the episode to hear Johan's daily head-to-head picks for the stage. After Jonas Vingegaard's torching of his rivals in the Combloux time trial, these are RadioCycling's latest headlines...Like Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault or Miguel Induráin in their time trialling pomp, Jonas Vingegaard not only beat Tadej Pogačar in the Tour's only TT, but blitzed him, putting an astonishingly large gap between himself and his arch-rival. We reflect on this incredible performance, on what it means for the GC battle, and on whether Pogačar has the ability – and enough road left – to surpass his first-week comeback and turn the battle for the yellow jersey around again. As is the case all too often nowadays, the Tour has seen further big crashes caused by the recklessness and witlessness of fans. The latest, last Friday, saw American climber Sepp Kuss felled and injured. With his Jumbo-Visma team considering whether to sue the fan who caused the pile-up, we get reaction from Groupama-FDJ DS Philippe Mauduit and ask whether the legal path is the right one to go down on these occasions. Our recent interview with Israel-PremierTech owner Sylvan Adams on the future of veteran team leader Chris Froome led to some kickback, not least from the four-time Tour winner's camp.  In order to clarify some of his previous comments, notably on the length of Froome's IPT contract, we went back to Adams, who not only outlines the key details but also doubles down on his comments about the British rider. It's now 25 years since the Festina affair, when doping was revealed to be rife in the sport and Tour almost came to a halt before it had reached Paris. With the aim of gauging what and how much has changed in the interim, we speak to three team directors who were racers back then. EF Education's Charly Wegelius, Jayco-AlUla's Matt White and Jumbo-Visma's Frans Maassen explain how the difference between then and now is "like night and day". We hear about eating "slop", "the Belgie clean", and how not all of the changes over the last quarter of a century have been for the best. And finally, in our Coffee Beans section...– Citroën to part ways with AG2R team– Ineos boss Ratcliffe throws a big bash in Courchevel for his team–  Carlos Rodríguez caught in Ineos-Movistar contractual tug of warSupport the show
