Decisions by Australia's Labor Government through its newly minted Environment Minister, Murray Watt, have sent shudders through many, and the airwaves of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation were alive with comments and observations: "Australia's largest gas project granted extension";"Gas is no longer a dirty word for Labor. Should it be?";"The Woodside boss's attacks on my generation are blatant scapegoating – and we see straight through them ";"Damaging winds follow ‘unusual' dust storm in Victoria";"As Australia's carbon offset industry grapples with integrity concerns, how can companies genuinely tackle climate change?";"5 huge climate opportunities await the next parliament – and it has the numbers to deliver".

FEDERAL ELECTION SHOWDOWNWITH ROBERT NALBANDIAN & VANESSA HADCHITICOMMANDING THE NARRATIVE EPISODE 75Steven Tripp is joined by Robert Nalbandian, the Trumpet of Patriot's candidate for Bennelong and Vanessa Hadchiti, the Libertarian candidate for Watson. Both Robert and Vanessa are former candidates of the United Australia Party, but both have taken different paths in recent times. Robert has stayed loyal to Clive Palmer and has joined the Trumpet of Patriots, while Vanessa has looked to the Libertarians as her new political home.In a fascinating exchange, at times Robert and Vanessa agree, while at times they differ, as they discuss the big topics of the 2025 Federal election. These include the cost-of-living crisis, Nation building infrastructure, Net-Zero policies and whether the Labor Government deserves to be re-elected.They also debate whether Trumpet of Patriots is a good name and why the Party is preferencing the Teals and Labor on its How-to-vote cards. To contact, follow or volunteer for Robert Nalbandian, visit: https://trumpetofpatriots.org/candidates/robert-nalbandianhttps://www.youtube.com/@iamNalbandian To contact, follow or volunteer for Vanessa Hadchiti, visit: https://www.lpnsw.org.au/vanessahadchiti TO GET YOUR TICKETS TO THE ‘ABG GALA FUNDRAISER', visit:https://abgfundraiser.eventbrite.com KEEP UP TO DATE WITH ALL OUR PODCASTS AND ARTICLES, visit:https://www.commandingthenarrative.com To become a Member of Australians for Better Government, visit: https://www.australiansforbetter.com/joinSHOW YOUR SUPPORT for Commanding the Narrative by donating – your support is much appreciated! https://www.commandingthenarrative.com/donate https://www.buymeacoffee.com/commandingthenarrativeCONTACT US BY EMAIL:commandingthenarrative@outlook.com steven.tripp@australiansforbetter.com Hosted by:Steven Tripp, who is one of Australia's most prominent politicians and political commentators, known for his incisive analysis and fearless approach to addressing the Nation's challenges. CLIMATE ACTION SHOWAPRIL 21ST 2025Produced by Vivien Langford "YOU ARE NOT ALONE"This episode of the Climate Action Show is part of the 89%Project, an initiative of the global journalism collaboration Covering Climate Now. The idea is that although between 80 and 89% of people worldwide want more effective climate ACTION they do not know that they are the majority. At the National Press Club Lunchin April, Greens Leader Adam Bandt reassured voters concerned about the climate crisis, by repeating... "You are not alone." Knowing that we are the majority could create a social tipping point that motivates action.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y69TTh__Npw With the headlines predicting minority goverment after the coming election, we explore what a hung parliament might achieve taking the urgency of the 89% to those who want to keep business as usual. 1.We will hear extracts from Allegra Spender's Climate speech in Parliament in May Allegra urges the government to get off fossil fuels, to stop opening new coal and gas projects, and to move as quickly as possible to renewables. She criticises the Labor Government's lack of a future gas strategy. She argues that their increase of fossil fuel projects creates more climate pollution and is a great disappointment for those who hoped for better.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTodgadZupg 2. Nick Ward standing for the Greens against Independent Allegra Spender in the Sydney Seat of WentworthOur community is facing significant challenges, from housing affordability to the pressing need for climate action. The scourge of racism and antisemitism will weigh heavily on this campaign. I believe in proactive, evidence-based solutions that address these issues head-on. I aim to bring a fresh perspective to Wentworth, advocating for Greens policies that reflect our shared values of fairness, sustainability, and community well-being. 3. Hannah Thomas standing for the Greens against the PM in the Sydney seat of GrayndlerIn 2022 she wrote in Independent Australia"Tuesday was also a heartbreaking day for the most vulnerable of individuals, children, standing up against the state in the courts of the colony. The Full Federal Court unanimously overturned an earlier finding that the Minister for the Environment has a duty to take reasonable care to avoid causing personal injury to children when deciding to approve a coal mine extension. The decision was essentially a green light to the Government and corporations to continue wrecking the climate in the face of overwhelming evidence that doing so would have catastrophic consequences for children. All of the evidence of the existential threat posed by climate change, and the fact that climate change is caused by fossil fuels, was accepted by the Court. And yet, the Minister for the Environment, who holds enormous power and discretion to perpetuate climate change, was found to owe nothing to the children whose futures are being irreparably harmed by climate change.I have no doubt that any number of legal experts would be able to defend each of these decisions based on the most sophisticated of technical arguments. But who cares about finessed points of law when ultimately, these decisions are all patently unjust to anyone with a functioning moral compass?" 4. Throughout the past three or four years of government discussion but little action on the housing shortage and the rental crisis, the people who provide the homes that people rent in Australia have never been part of the discussion. Many of our state and territory governments have held inquiries, summits and other talkfests inviting many of the usual suspects but landlords have never been invited to the table. In one state, at least, that has now changed. The new state government in Queensland is showing increasing signs of recognising that investor owners of residential properties are a core part of the solution to the chronic rental shortage crisis. The organisation that represents investment property owners, the Property Investment Professionals of Australia (or PIPA) recently held a business breakfast seminar in Brisbane and State Treasurer David Janetski accepted an invitation to attend and answer questions. That in itself was a step forward for investors but also for tenants who rely on investors to provide rental homes – keeping in mind that well over 90% of all homes rented in Australia are provided by mum-and-dad investors, with government and big business providing very little. Janetski pointed out that he and his colleagues were instrumental in preventing the previous Labor Government from implementing the nation's most draconian and onerous land tax. And having taken office as the new Queensland government had already abolished stamp duty for first home buyers building new homes. He told the PIPA audience: “It's important for the state to recognise the contribution that the property industry makes.” He undertook to connect PIPA with Housing Minister Sam O'Connor to hear the industry's concerns about the imbalance between the rights of tenants and the rights of the property owners. Janetski also pointed out that the new Government had reinstated the Property Consultative Committee, which had been axed by the previous government. He said: “We are listening” and commented that the language from the previous government about investors and property managers was disrespectful. PIPA president Nicola McDougall said: “That's all we are asking for – a seat at the table.” During the event's Q & A, I pointed out to the State Treasurer that the average cost of the new house and land package was now approaching $1 million and over 40% of that was taxes fees and charges at the three levels of government. I asked what could be done about that. He said he understood the concerns but he also had to balance the budget, against a background of a blowout in the cost of infrastructure projects, smaller GST revenue and reduced coal royalties. The inference is that, while sympathetic, the Queensland Government is unlikely to take any major measures to relieve the tax burdens that are preventing the housing industry from fixing the housing crisis. But I would ask the Queensland Treasurer to consider this: what would happen if Queensland was the only state to eliminate a major chunk of the taxation component of building new homes? What if building a new home became $200,000 cheaper in Queensland than everywhere else? What would that do to the state economy and to the Queensland State Budget? And what would it do to home ownership in the Sunshine State?
Over in Australia, the Albanese-led Government has recently promised to extend energy rebates until the end of 2025, providing another $150 in energy bill relief. The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to giving Australians cost-of-living relief ahead of the upcoming federal election. Australian correspondent Oliver Peterson says the upcoming Budget will also unveil more relief solutions for prospective voters - and set the tone ahead of the election. Australians are in for a nine per cent rise on power bills soon despite Labor promising to cut energy costs by $275. Now, Anthony Albanese is offering another energy promise with small businesses and all households to get $150 taken off their electricity bills. Which means around $1.8 billion in energy rebates would automatically be applied to every residence and one million small businesses around the nation on a quarterly basis from July 1. Peter Fegan said on 4BC Breakfast, "We are sick and tired of high energy prices, we are sick and tired of being told bills will come down.." "Just get it right because we have had enough."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
With just two weeks till the West Australian election, the Labor Government says it will introduce rebates for households to install batteries.

Acknowledgement of Country// Headlines// Freelance journalist, writer and researcher Ann Louise Deslandes spoke with Priya earlier this week about the recent 10th anniversary of the Ayotzinapa student disappearances from the city of Iguala in Mexico's state of Guerrero. On the night of September 26, 2014, and into the next day, municipal, state, and federal police officers, alongside soldiers from the Mexican Army and members of the criminal syndicate Guerreros Unidos attacked six buses in the city of Iguala, five of which had been temporarily commandeered by students of the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers' College to travel to Mexico City in order to commemorate the October 2 anniversary of the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre. Today, you'll hear part 1 of this interview, where Ann speaks about the nexus of state and paramilitary violence that the students were unwillingly caught in on that night in September 2014, the attempt by then Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto's government to establish a falsified "historical truth" to put inquiries to rest, and the promise of recently retired Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to support the students' families in their fight for justice. Ann is based in Mexico City, and covers politics and culture in Mexico for international English-language media. She also writes, reports and consults on human rights (especially regarding gender and sexuality), social movements, and community development. Ann has most recently written about the Ayotzinapa student disappearances for The Nation on October 9. Bec is a community organiser and activist who has spent a significant part of the past two years working out of Musgrave Park alongside comrades providing community meals and building relationships of solidarity and mutual support. They're an advocate for community connection and breaking down barriers created by fear, isolation and capitalism to bring people together. Elon Musk is standing up for free speech in the U.K. following last month's elections that resulted in huge wins for the far-left Labor Party. Since its rise to power in July, Labor Party leaders have begun cracking down on social media, even arresting individuals for posts they claim incite violence. Now, Musk is using his X account to defend users and raise concerns over the crackdown in the U.K. “It's 2030 in the U.K., & you're being executed for posting a meme,” Must wrote on X Saturday. “The Brits gave up their guns, and now their government puts them in jail for Facebook posts,” a meme that Musk shared reads. Musk is combating a “tyrannical-style policing of social media in the U.K.,” says Nile Gardiner, a former adviser to Lady Margaret Thatcher and the current director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at The Heritage Foundation. “Thank God for Elon Musk taking on the Labor Government,” Gardiner declared during an interview on The Daily Signal Podcast. Recent violent riots in the U.K. were spurred on after rumors spread online about the identity of a man who killed three girls at a Taylor Swift-themed event in July in the English town of Southport, 50 miles west of Manchester. The suspect was rumored to be an illegal immigrant and Islamic. Both claims were proved false. The man now charged with the murder of the girls was born in Britain to Rwandan immigrant parents. Two men have been arrested and sentenced to a combined nearly five years in prison for reportedly using social media to encourage rioters to target hotels housing migrants in the U.K. During a recent interview with Sky News, London's Metropolitan Police commissioner warned that law enforcement will “throw the full force of the law at people. And whether you're in this country committing crimes on the streets or committing crimes from further afield online, we will come after you.” Gardiner condemned the violent demonstrations while calling the crackdown on social media “very dangerous.” “We need free speech champions fighting against Orwellian tactics and policies,” Gardiner said, adding that “Elon Musk is doing this, and full credit to him.” Gardiner joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain what we know about the violent riots in the U.K. and the Labor Party's social media speech policies. After yet another busy #auspol week, Denise is joined by SpinProof regulars - Noely Neate and Cheryl Kernot. They start off discussing the morning's breaking news where ASIO and the AFP announced Russian spies in the ADF - and Joe Biden's post NATO press conference which the eyes of the world are anxiously watching. Coming back home, they reflect on that election night in May 2022 and the relief and hope felt Australia wide - and how that hope has faded with a Labor Government which is putting Party over people on a range of issues. Noely then finishes with a very strong message for all Labor Party members and supporters. Yet another worthwhile listen to wrap our #auspol week.

Australia correspondent Annika Smethurst joins Susie to talk about the determination of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to push ahead with the referendum on the Indigenous Voice, despite polling showing a drop in support for it. The Labor Government has changed how it refers to Palestinian areas, reinstating the term "Occupied Palestinian Territories" and vowing to strengthen its objections to "illegal" Israeli settlements. A Victoria woman who cooked up a deadly mushroom dinner and killed three of her guests says she didn't do it on purpose, as police investigate. The new Labor Government promised to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030...but last week, Australia's Environmental Minister Tanya Plibersek, green lit a new coal mine in central Queensland, the first to be approved under the new government. Considering our awareness of the detrimental impacts of coal and its contribution to global warming, it raises the question of why, in 2023, we are still granting approval for new coal mines? In this episode of The Quicky, we find out what went down in Isaac River and why the environment minister said yes, when the majority of Aussies said no. Subscribe to Mamamia GET IN TOUCH Feedback? Australia has to act fast to help cut emissions and avoid a global climate catastrophe. After decades of inaction, the Labor Government has brought their proposal forward, adjusting the awkwardly named safeguard mechanism. But this bets our climate future heavily on emission offsets – or carbon credits. They're a convoluted way of making up for emissions, by doing good elsewhere. Are they actually a scam?
