Deep Shit w/ Goddess Of Abundance

#Cosleep or no sleep is how I clumsily fell into #bedsharing I don't know if it was desperation, instincts or both but what I do know is that my family sleep better together in bed and that includes my infant baby boy. Controversial a topic cosleeping it may be but what's better a mother who's so exhausted from frequent feedings, separation anxiety and the burning need a mom has to monitor a new babies breathing 7000 times a night, I'm not sure all I know is that cosleeping feels natural for me and mine. Happy, Sad, and Grateful: A C-Section Mom's Journey Through Motherhood

The dreaded question... "Does your baby sleep through the night?" Thankfully our now 18-month-old does, but it took a lot of trial-and-error for our family to get to where we are today. In this episode, my husband Brian joins me as a guest for the first time to talk about our sleep journey with Lacey from birth until now.  Although strategies have been the most effective in making positive change, there were a couple of products that really helped us. Here are some that either we or our friends love! Video monitor system Infant Optics Lollipop Baby Camera Foscam Security Camera System Blackout Window Covers For our nursery: Blackout EZ - Total Sunlight Blocking Window Cover For travel: AmazonBasics Portable Baby Travel Window Blackout Blind Shades with Suction Cups Ok to wake clock LittleHippo Mella Ready to Rise Children's Trainer   *Note: We do talk about safe co-sleeping which is sometimes a taboo subject. Although it is discouraged by the American Academy of Pediatrics, there are many other countries, like New Zealand, that educate parents on how to set-up a safe co-sleeping space which has resulted in an overall decrease in mortality. Our opinion is that much like making the topic of safe sex taboo, not talking about how to make co-sleeping safer is putting families at a higher risk because sometimes when sleep deprivation is a factor, co-sleeping just happens. We have researched the risks and know them well. Co-sleeping at the start with our baby is what worked best for us to keep our little girl safe. We encourage you to read this fast-read written by NPR on the topic.

You know what the most trite advice is about babies and sleep? “Honey, sleep when the baby sleeps!” It makes me think of a meme I came across on Instagram that said, “Sure. And I’ll do laundry when my baby does laundry and wash bottles when my baby washes bottles.” When the baby sleeps, that may be our only window of time to get to the umpteen things we have to do.  One of the most polarizing and confusing topics for a new mom is “To sleep train or not.” There are some parents who are die-hard believers in the Ferber method and others who prefer co-sleeping, and others who fall somewhere in between. First and foremost, there is no right or wrong method. You do what is right for your baby and your family and your schedule. What I aim to provide you with is knowledge. If you’re a mom who is unsure what to do to help your baby go to sleep and sleep well, this is the episode for you. My goal is to keep things as objective as possible, (you know I am a journalist, it’s how my thinking is hardwired), so I want to present to you two different perspectives so that you come out of this more aware and self-assured on how to handle sleep when it comes to you and your baby or babies. On today’s episode, I am joined by Kelly Murray, a certified sleep consultant and Amber Price, MD, a pediatrician and breastfeeding consultant, who lives and teaches child-led parenting. There are many decisions to make as a parent.  Breastfeed or bottle?  Cosleep or no?  Where to find quality care? And when you reach out for more information while making these decisions, the waters sometimes seem to only get more cloudy. Emily Oster's new book, Cribsheet, tackles many common decisions make in the early years.  But she's not here to tell you what to do.  She's taking a different approach.  Applying her experience as an economist (which, I've learned, is really the science of informed decision-making) to her role as a parent, she's sharing an approach that is equal parts, rigorous data and honest wholistic consideration. Our topic is about sleep."Is your baby sleeping through the night yet?" is often the first question people ask a new parent. The truth is that most babies do not sleep through the night, yet it is a myth that is perpetuated from generation to generation. Babies have needs at night just as they do during the day; from hunger, loneliness, and fear, to feeling too cold or too hot. They need the reassurance of a loving parent to feel secure during the night. Join me as I discuss the topics of co sleeping, bed-sharing and the myth of sleep training. Later in the show I will be joined by Bill and Martha Sears. After raising eight children and practicing pediatric medicine for more than 30 years, they have answered questions from thousands of parents. Millions more have sought their advice through their 40+ pediatric books, articles in parenting magazines, and our appearances on more than 100 television programs such as 20/20, Donahue, Good Morning America, Oprah, CBS This Morning, CNN, NBC's Today Show and Dateline.
