An Ennis man who survived lymphoma cancer is now encouraging others to give back and support those facing the disease. Michael Doab was diagnosed in 2014 and underwent surgery and chemotherapy—but today, he's using his experience to raise awareness and funds for Irish Cancer Society ahead of Daffodil Day tomorrow (Friday, 20th March). He's been sharing his story and urging the local community to get involved and support those affected by cancer. West Clare residents are being asked to give blood this week to replenish stocks after a busy bank holiday period. A blood donation clinic is taking place at Kilrush Community School today and on Thursday from 5pm to 8:20pm. It comes ahead of Daffodil Day on Friday, with a significant percentage of blood going to cancer patients. Appointments can be made by calling 1800 222 111, and IBTS Donor Recruitment Executive Alex O'Connor says every donation makes a difference.

When Emma McGuinness was pregnant with her second child, she discovered a swelling in her neck that turned out to be Hodgkin's lymphoma. Her son was delivered at 36 weeks and spent his first 14 days in neonatal intensive care. Just weeks later, Emma began six months of chemotherapy while caring for a newborn. In this powerful episode, Emma shares the reality of navigating cancer during pregnancy, the emotional experience of having a baby in NICU, and how her own experience exposed a gap in Irish maternity leave legislation. This Friday is Daffodil Day, the Cancer Society's annual appeal for donations, and this year the Chief Executive says Daffodil Day feels more urgent than ever. One in three New Zealanders will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and of course, the disease doesn't just affect them, it extends to family, friends, and anyone close to them. On Friday March 28th, the Irish Cancer Society (ICS) will celebrate Daffodil Day. It's the charity's biggest fundraising event and aims to raise millions of euros to support cancer patients and progress cancer research. In this episode, Kathy Sheridan is joined by Daffodil Day Ambassador Tara Doonan, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 at 36 years-old. Tara lives in Cavan but travelled to the Mater Hospital in Dublin for her treatment. In today's episode she talks about the shock of her diagnosis, the road to recovery and the financial impact of cancer, from travel and parking expenses, to the loss of income. Amy Nolan, Director of Clinical Affairs at ICS also joins the conversation to explain how the charity supports patients financially and what needs to change in order to limit costs for those undergoing treatment. Wexford man and leukaemia survivor, Mark Molloy, originally from Duncannon, joins us to share his story and highlight the importance of supporting the Irish Cancer Society's Daffodil Day, taking place on Friday, 28th March. Mark is calling on his local community to get involved and help raise vital funds for cancer research and patient support. Also joining us is Alexandra Phelan-McGahon, Support Programmes Coordinator at the Irish Cancer Society, who leads their Counselling Services nationwide. Alexandra will discuss the range of support services available for those affected by cancer and the impact of Daffodil Day in funding these essential programmes.

There was a 61% increase in calls to the Irish Cancer Society helpline in Clare last year. Last year in Clare, the charity provided 240 night nurses for end-of-life care, 229 bookings for their patient travel service and recieved over 180 calls to their support line. Daffodil Day will take place on Friday, March 22nd and individuals, schools and workplaces are being urged to set up their own fundraiser through selling Daffodil Pins, a virtual bucket collection or a 12,000 steps-a-day challenge. Volunteer Daffodil Day Coordinator from Ennis, Siobhan Connaghan, says cancer affects half of all families in the country so it is important to give support where you can.
