With only a week before the presidential election, Phil and Kaitlyn are joined by Mike Erre to discuss Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden. Why do so many white evangelicals ignore the racism, misogyny, and dehumanizing rhetoric coming from the MAGA movement? It is really about supporting certain policies or the idolatry of power? Then, David Swanson is back to discuss his latest book, “Plundered: The Tangled Roots of Racial and Environmental Injustice.” Swanson says we will be compelled to engage both issues when we see their shared origin in the sin of greed. Ken welcomes his good friend Osahon Obasuaye for the first in a series they call, "Cabana Talks." Cancel culture has become what Osahon calls, the Cult of Cancellation. It seems to be everywhere. Julie Roys exposes John MacArthur's misdeeds; both have something to learn from the "N" word - nuance. Ken asks about Osahon's take on the Will Smith/Chris Rock episode - and how it impacted him personally. Caught in the crossfire is Summer of Soul and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson; Venus and Serena Williams, and their film, King Richard, too. Osahon was moved by Ken's interview with David Swanson, and his assertion that the white church needs to be "rediscipled." Osahon's unique perspective and clarity of insight make this a poignant and timely podcast.Become a Patron: www.patreon.com/beachedwhitemaleSupport the show (http://thebeachedwhitemale.com)

This special bonus episode is being released in light of Juneteenth, an important holiday on many levels and we hope that this conversation helps our listeners wrestle through this very important and timely question. The perennial problem of race in America has once more crashed onto the national scene. As has so often been the case, people have divided into camps. Very little room, if any at all, has been made for middle ground. Allies for justice have risen from all corners of American life, but many have come under fire for merely putting on an act. And while these actions ought to be condemned, fear of being called a performative ally has paralyzed otherwise well meaning people from taking part in the collective cry for justice. In this bonus episode, we ask, “What does performative activism look like?” Does performative justice hurt corrective efforts? What motivations for pursuing justice are legitimate? Should allies for justice, specifically racial justice, be a monolith? In my experiences with racial reconciliation conversations, there usually comes a moment when superficial talk gets real. Often this comes about because a person of color takes the risk to share how racism and white supremacy have impacted her life. And then, almost invariably, in response to this vulnerable testimony, a white person begins to speak, usually through tears. This person shares about how overwhelming this experience has been, how he hadn’t known the extent of our racialized society and its racist history, about how sad, angry, or confused he is feeling now. I’ve watched this happen so many times that I can almost predict it: the move away from a person of color’s experience to a white person’s emotions. David W. Swanson is the pastor of New Community Covenant Church, a multicultural congregation in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. He helps lead New Community Outreach, a nonprofit that collaborates with the community to reduce sources of trauma, and speaks around the country on the topics of racial justice and reconciliation.

The ministry of reconciliation requires us to reckon with sociological realities and systemic injustices. But the first multicultural church testifies that true reconciliation begin with the power of the Holy Spirit. What does it look like to depend on the Spirit within this nation’s legacies of white supremacy, genocide, and systemic racism?
