The Iowa Pork Congress is underway in Downtown Des Moines and Bob is there with the Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers presenting the first Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award of 2023 to Dennis and Diane Liljedahl of Page County! Bob is joined by Brian Waddingham and Hope Brecht from CSIF talking about the new year of award winners and how the Coalition can help get producers into the pork industry. The Liljedahls tell us about their operation and the conditions in Page County and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig extends his congratulations to the couple and talks about the importance of multi-generational operations. U.S. Meat Export Federation's Erin Borror talks about what is taking place in the pork industry globally causing strength in exports. Outgoing President of the Iowa Pork Producers Association, Kevin Rasmussen, fills us in on what happened yesterday at their annual meeting including the election of the new president, Trish Cook. Cook, also a past recipient of the Good Farm Neighbor Award, joins us at the end of the hour and lays out her top priorities as she takes over at the Pork Producers.

At stake are 41 pledged delegates for the Democrat convention. These delegates will be awarded proportionately. The Iowa Caucuses are a closed caucus, not an open election. Since Iowa is the first stop on the way to the 2020 Presidential decision, no state has gotten more attention from the large field of Democrat candidates than Iowa, and in particular its state capital of Des Moines. It's World Food Prize week in Des Moines, which means farmers, agribusiness folks, journalists, and communicators are congregated at the Marriott hotel in Downtown Des Moines, so Mike and Delaney went down to catch up with the folks from the Global Farmer Network. Again, some tremendous growers from many different countries were on hand to discuss agriculture in their home countries and the challenges and opportunities they have in front of them. For today's episode, we spoke with Gina Gutierrez, who is the fifth generation on her family's dairy farm north of Mexico City. She was also the recipient of this year's Kleckner Award for her work in advocating on behalf of agriculture.
