Have you ever had a feeling that something bad was about to happen? Has it ever come true? On October 20, 1966, a young Welsh girl named Eryl Mai Jones recounted to her mother a dream in which she went to school and found it wasn't there. “Something black had come down all over it,” she said. The next day, Eryl and 143 other people were killed when a pile of waste at a nearby coal mine collapsed and sent an avalanche of rubble into the village of Aberfan. After learning of Eryl's dream—and others like hers—the psychiatrist John Barker teamed up with reporter Peter Fairley to establish a Premonitions Bureau at the Evening Standard newspaper to “log premonitions as they occurred and see how many were borne out in reality.” New Yorker staff writer Sam Knight tells the story of Barker's experiment in his new book, The Premonitions Bureau: A True Account of Death Foretold. Barker hoped that the bureau, which would receive more than 700 premonitions within 15 months (some of which proved true) might serve as a warning system for future calamities. But the gravest predictions that Barker received warned of his impending death. Roy Jenkins looks at the work of Eryl Parry, a Pioneering Minister in the Church in Wales' Bro Celynnin ministry area. At a time when traditional, packed carol services are an impossibility, Eryl and musical director Chris Roberts have motivated dozens of individual churchgoers and non-churchgoers to either sing, play an instrument, or say a prayer in their place of work, or in a church. Carolau Conwy or Conwy Carols can be seen online via You Tube, and since its launch at the start of the month has been viewed by many thousands of people in Conwy and across the globe.

What up, Get Up Nation? My name is Ben Biddick, the Host of the Get Up Nation Podcast and Co-Author of Get Up: The Art of Perseverance with former Major League Baseball player and CEO of Lurong Living, Adam Greenberg. Recently I had the honor and privilege of speaking with the amazing Eryl McCaffrey who joined me from Toronto. She’s a yoga instructor, meditation teacher, public speaker, mental health advocate, and is certified to provide mental health first aid services. She has a combined degree and diploma in media theory and production as well as broadcast journalism from Western University and Fanshawe College. She spent time on air as a TV new reporter and a radio journalist. She’s faced mental health challenges since childhood and has "built resilience along the way." Mindfulness has been the key for her as she sought to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, eating disorder, and everyday stress during her childhood. She now shares her power and insights about mental health and mindfulness in schools, communities, and corporations seeking out ways for people to reach the heights of their potential, value themselves and others and their work, and sustain a profound and satisfying experience in their life, learning, and working. Check out Eryl’s Instagram account at @wellnesswitheryl where she provides a free meditation every Monday if you are seeking ways to be more present and healthy in your life. Thank you, Eryl, for joining me on the Get Up Nation Podcast. This episode concludes with the song “Gettin’ Well” by Everett Gibbons. In this series of Ramblings, Clare Balding is walking with people or in places recommended by listeners. Eryl Davies wrote to the programme suggesting a walk in the hills of North Wales with her father, Tegid. He lives near Blaenau Ffestiniog and loves to explore the area every day, usually alone with his dog Twm. Not that unusual except that Tegid has no sight and relies on his memory and his canine companion to find the way. He has always loved walking and when he can, likes to share his passion with the rest of the family. Today he's joined by Eryl and his sixteen year old grandson, Llewellyn. Their route can be found on OS Outdoor Leisure map 18 Producer: Lucy Lunt.
