John Barker, President of the Ohio Restaurant and Hospitality Association says no, but does encourage customers to get out and enjoy what restaurants have to offer in the buckeye state
It's a bleak outlook for domestic wine production, with a two-decade low forecast. Estimates suggest New Zealand's output will be down 21% this year. Director-General of International Organisation of Vine and Wine, John Barker says it's largely due to frost damage in Marlborough. He told Heather du Plessis-Allan other climate issues contributed to a low wine output from the Southern Hemisphere. Barker says the Northern Hemisphere will be likely worse because of a small harvest from France. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

John Barker, President of the Ohio Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance, updates us on the state of the industry
There are some important restaurant states this year with minimum wage and tip credit elimination measures on the November ballot. Ohio is at the top of that list. We are joined by John Barker, CEO of the Ohio Restaurant & Hospitality Alliance as well as Tod Bowen, their head of External Affiars & Government Relations, to level set on their pending measure to both incease the minimum wage to $15/hr and eventually eliminate the tip credit. We will also review the general state of play of those wage issues across the country as many legislative sessions are close to wrapping up. We'll talk about those issues and wrap it up with the legislative scorecard.
In the realm of gold exploration and mining, one company stands out for its remarkable achievements and promising future – Loncor Gold. In a recent interview with Loncor Gold's CEO, John Barker, we gained exclusive insights into the company's significant milestones, its strategic vision, and the compelling investment opportunity it presents in the dynamic gold market. A Leader in the Gold Industry Loncor Gold (TSX: LN) (OTCQX: LONCF), has garnered attention as an undervalued gold exploration company with a substantial presence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). At a time when gold prices are soaring, Loncor Gold's strategic positioning in the gold-rich DRC couldn't be more opportune. The company boasts control over approximately 4 million ounces of high-grade gold across its projects, with its flagship Adumbi gold deposit emerging as a world-class asset. Adumbi, the second-largest gold deposit in the DRC, holds immense potential with 1.9 million ounces of gold indicated and an additional 2.1 million ounces inferred. Moreover, Loncor Gold is about to possess $13.5 million in cash and short-term receivables, bolstering its financial strength and capacity for further growth. Navigating Through Challenges with Resilience In an industry characterized by volatility and uncertainty, Loncor Gold has demonstrated resilience and foresight. Despite operating in challenging market conditions, the company has remained steadfast in its pursuit of growth and value creation. CEO John Barker highlighted the company's proactive approach, emphasizing their focus on expanding the business, preserving shareholder value, and seizing opportunities amidst market fluctuations. Unveiling the Potential of Adumbi Central to Loncor Gold's success is the Adumbi gold deposit, renowned for its size, grade, and economic viability. With approximately 4 million ounces of gold under its control, Loncor Gold's Adumbi deposit stands out as one of the largest and highest-grade projects in its peer group. The robust economics of the project, including a $1.2 billion pre-tax valuation and favourable production forecasts, underscore its significance as a value driver for the company. Strategic Growth Initiatives Loncor Gold's strategic vision extends beyond its existing accomplishments, with a keen focus on further expanding the Adumbi deposit. The company's plans to initiate an 11,000-meter drill program aimed at increasing the deposit size to 5 million ounces signal its commitment to unlocking additional value for shareholders. Moreover, with gold prices surpassing previous records, Loncor Gold is poised to capitalize on the favourable market dynamics and elevate its status as a key player in the gold sector. Conclusion: A Bright Future Ahead In conclusion, Loncor Gold's remarkable achievements and strategic initiatives position it for a bright future in the gold industry. With a focus on maximizing shareholder value, expanding its resource base, and capitalizing on favorable market conditions, Loncor Gold is poised to emerge as a leading player in the global gold market. As investors seek opportunities in the precious metals sector, Loncor Gold stands out with tremendous potential and a compelling investment opportunity for those looking to capitalize on the enduring allure of gold.

“As to the divination which takes place in sleep, and is said to be based on dreams, we cannot lightly either dismiss it with contempt or give it implicit confidence.” These were the words of Aristotle, written in 350 BCE, and taken very much to heart by a British psychiatrist in the 1960's, when he took on the monumental task of collecting and collating hundreds of premonitions from across the country, with the ultimate goal of not only researching the phenomena, but then also using the data to avert disaster and perhaps even to save the world. Eavesdroppers… we predict there's going to be an episode on PREMONITIONS!! And what do you know, this week on Eavesdroppin', Geordie & Michelle talk about some pretty spooky stuff to do with premonitions, national disasters, murder, ghosts and more… Have you ever had a strong feeling that something bad was about to happen? Adrienne Fields did… This week Michelle talks about Adrienne's story and the horrific murders of Christine Wu and Wendie Prescott in Arlington, Texas, in 1995… Who was the Bathtub Killer? How did he get caught? What has true crime, murder, and a serial rapist have to do with premonitions? Michelle also talks about the true-crime case of Teresita Basa… Back in 1977, the body of Teresita Basa was found under a mattress in her apartment after it went up in flames. But was it just an accidental fire or was Teresita the victim of foul play? This incredible story takes some crazy supernatural twists and turns as Michelle uncovers how the ghost of a murdered woman helped catch her killer. Listen now to find out how… Geordie then talks about an incredible chapter in British history where, in response to people having vivid premonitions ahead of the Aberfan coal-mining town disaster in 1966, a psychiatrist called John Barker set up the now defunct British Premonitions Bureau. Could the Aberfan disaster have been averted? Did people really have foreboding visions and predictions of what was about to happen? How amazing is it that John Barker set up a British databank for all the nations dreams and visions to help prevent national disasters! In October of 1966, in the small mining village of Aberfan, Wales, a colliery spoil tip suddenly slid downhill as slurry, burying a local school and several houses, killing 116 children and 28 adults. In the wake of the horrific disaster, a psychiatrist named John Barker, who arrived at the scene to offer his help … Continue reading Episode 309 LIVE: The British Premonitions Bureau
Jonathan Bastian talks with Sam Knight, staff writer for the Atlantic, about his latest book, “The Premonitions Bureau: A True Account of Death Foretold.” Knight tells the true story of British psychiatrist John Barker, who after learning that several people had predicted the 1966 Aberfan disaster in Wales, became convinced that premonitions and the ability to see into the future were real. “[Barker] had this idea to call a friend of his who was a science reporter at the Evening Standard in London,” Knight says, “to put out a national call for premonitions.” Delve deeper into life, philosophy, and what makes us human by joining the Life Examined discussion group on Facebook.

In this episode we're heading to the 1960s to meet a man who tried to uncover the difference between fate and coincidence. Have you ever had a feeling that something would happen before it did? Or seen something you couldn't make sense of? In 1967 the psychiatrist John Barker set up a bureau in the offices of the London Evening Standard where members of the public could phone in and report their premonitions. A strange dream. A headache and an overwhelming feeling of dread. A vision without any clear meaning. Over the courses of its two year existence the Premonitions Bureau collected countless sinking feelings and strange suspicions. They were categorised, logged and when a disaster occurred, they were cross-referenced to see how accurate they had been. The premonitions bureau was so much more than a curious oddity. As our guest today, Sam Knight, shows in his new book, the bureau not only gives us insight into this moment in British social history, but also into the human condition. Sam Knight is the author of The Premonitions Bureau. Show Notes Scene One: January 4, 8:50am in the newsroom of the Evening Standard newspaper, just off Fleet Street. In 1966, John Barker, a dynamic psychiatrist working in an outdated British mental hospital, established the Premonitions Bureau to investigate psychic visions. He found a network of hundreds of correspondents, from clerks to ballet teachers – including two unnervingly gifted “percipients”. The New Yorker's award-winning Sam Knight joins us with an enthralling true story of madness and wonder, science and the supernatural – a journal to the most powerful and unsettling reaches of the human mind. Sam joins How To Academy in-person on the 7 June in conversation with the author of The Big Short and Flashboys, Michael Lewis. Have you ever had a feeling that something bad was about to happen? Has it ever come true? On October 20, 1966, a young Welsh girl named Eryl Mai Jones recounted to her mother a dream in which she went to school and found it wasn't there. “Something black had come down all over it,” she said. The next day, Eryl and 143 other people were killed when a pile of waste at a nearby coal mine collapsed and sent an avalanche of rubble into the village of Aberfan. After learning of Eryl's dream—and others like hers—the psychiatrist John Barker teamed up with reporter Peter Fairley to establish a Premonitions Bureau at the Evening Standard newspaper to “log premonitions as they occurred and see how many were borne out in reality.” New Yorker staff writer Sam Knight tells the story of Barker's experiment in his new book, The Premonitions Bureau: A True Account of Death Foretold. Barker hoped that the bureau, which would receive more than 700 premonitions within 15 months (some of which proved true) might serve as a warning system for future calamities. But the gravest predictions that Barker received warned of his impending death. Consequences brings together two books that seemed to have one thing in common and then turned out to be connected in entirely different ways. Sam Knight's The Premonitions Bureau is a fascinating look at the work of psychiatrist John Barker and a network of psychic visionaries in the 1960s. A Terrible Kindness is the debut novel from Jo Browning Wroe which shows how compassion and sacrifice can shape a life and how hard it can be to change course. In a fascinating discussion we discover more about the nature of time, of structure and of averting disaster.
The compounds of limitation of the human race, which John Barker lists as suffering and pain (spiritual, physical and emotional torture), the uncertainty of the future (which breeds anxiety and fear), the irretrievable, irrecoverable and irreparable nature of the past, the random nature of natural disasters, and death all have their antidote in Jesus. The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, throws more light on this in this insightful message titled "Oasis Of Salvation." This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
