Are you focused or merely busy? Jones Loflin sits down with Kevin to reveal the secret of focus, inspired by honeybees. Jones introduces six essential "permissions" that individuals must grant themselves and emphasizes their particular importance for leaders, who not only need to practice these permissions personally but also guide their team members to recognize and adopt them. These permissions include: The Permission to Prioritize – Bees prioritize maintaining the hive before making honey. How can we identify our most critical goals? The Permission to Plan – Similar to how bees prepare for changing conditions, how can we proactively set ourselves up for success? The Permission to Be Unavailable – Constant accessibility can hinder productivity. How can leaders create an environment conducive to deep work? The Permission to Recharge – Bees rest more than they work. What lessons can we draw from this behavior? The Permission to Change – Often, we stick to habits that are no longer beneficial. How can we embrace necessary changes? The Permission to Be Consistent – Although change is crucial, success frequently arises from disciplined, repeated actions. In today's episode, we're discussing an incredibly profound topic—true success. Is success achieving worldly accolades, wealth, or fame? Or is there something much deeper, much more meaningful? For Muslims, true success is reaching the moment of death and being greeted by an angel who indicates a good end and the ultimate reward—entry into Jannah, Paradise. This episode is about redefining success and aligning our lives with the ultimate goal of a good afterlife! When we think of success, modern-day definitions often focus on material possessions, career growth, or societal status. Even those practicing spirituality are seeking stillness and peace in this world. But in Islam, success isn't confined to this life—it's part of something greater, something eternal. Muslims focus on the Hereafter as true success lies in securing our Hereafter—being saved from the Hellfire and entering Paradise, by God's Mercy. Everything else is secondary. The focus, therefore, shouldn't be on accumulating the pleasures of this world but on preparing for what truly matters—our meeting with God at the end of our lives. The moment of death is critical in Islam. It determines our destiny in the Hereafter. We all hope for what is called, a good end. This is the moment when the angels come to a dying believer with glad tidings, assuring them of God's mercy and the promise of Paradise. This is the ultimate measure of success. Imagine the joy and peace of seeing angels who bring you the good news of entry into Paradise at the moment of death. This is the moment every believer strives for. Now, you may be wondering—how do we live a life that ensures a good end? What steps can we take to align our life, with the goal of eternal success? Here are some practical reflections rooted in Islamic teachings: 1. Be Consistent in Worship Strive to be consistent in prayer, fasting, and other acts of worship. These build the foundation for seeking God's pleasure. 2. Repent and Purify We all make mistakes, but the door to repentance is always open. Constant repentance keeps our hearts pure and reminded of our ultimate purpose. 3. Seek Beneficial Knowledge Seeking Islamic knowledge keeps us grounded and focused on the Hereafter. This includes learning from the Quran, Sunnah, and the lives of righteous people. It reminds us of how temporary this world is compared to the Hereafter. 4. Do Good to Others Acts of kindness, service, and charity are highly rewarded in Islam. Every act of goodness enhances our chances of a good end. 5. Make Supplication or Dua for a Good End Never underestimate the power of dua or supplication. Ask God regularly to bless you with a good end. So, true success in Islam isn't measured by worldly achievements but by the state of our soul when we leave this world. It's about meeting God with a heart, that's pure and actions that are pleasing to Him. Dear listeners, remember that life is a test. Each moment is an opportunity to build our eternal home. Focus on small, consistent acts of worship, sincere repentance, and the pursuit of righteousness. By doing so, you're not just living for this world—but also securing your Hereafter. May God bless us all with a good end and make us among the successful who are greeted by angels with glad tidings at the end of our lives. Ameen. Thank you for tuning in. Love Always, Amber xoxo
Have you ever felt stuck in a negative relationship cycle? Have you ever struggled with setting boundaries in your relationships? Today, Jay welcomes back a community favorite, the renowned psychotherapist, bestselling author, and podcast host Lori Gottlieb, for an insightful chat about love, relationships, and emotional growth. Lori, best known for her book Maybe You Should Talk to Someone and as co-host of the popular Dear Therapists podcast, brings her deep wisdom and practical advice that really hits home with listeners. Lori shares how people often step into love with unrealistic expectations, thanks to social media and pop culture. She reminds us that while the spark of initial chemistry is thrilling, true, long-lasting love thrives on a deeper connection and genuine understanding. One of the highlights is Lori's take on “idiot compassion” versus “wise compassion.” She breaks down how real compassion means looking at ourselves honestly, recognizing our patterns, and owning our part in the relationship. This is essential for anyone feeling trapped in negative cycles. As the conversation unfolds, Jay and Lori dive into family dynamics, especially around in-laws and blending families. Lori offers practical tips on how to support your relationship while still showing respect for parents, pointing out that these challenges are usually a couple's issues, not just external ones. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Let Go of Unrealistic Expectations How to Practice Wise Compassion How to Break Negative Patterns How to Handle Pressure to Rush Relationships How to Prioritize Clear Communication How to Avoid Pop Culture Relationship Pitfalls How to Cultivate Emotional Resilience Remember, true connection flourishes when we commit to growth, communicate openly, and remain empathetic to both ourselves and others. Every step taken toward understanding and compassion brings you closer to creating a life filled with genuine, lasting connections. We continue reading verses in context such as Jeremiah 29:11 ("For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope") as well a few passages in the red letters that get ignored by supposed Red Letter Christians. We see the Lord telling his disciples to not go to Gentiles, to raise the dead, and to sell everything they have (among other things). We briefly look at the parable of the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25) in context. And as we have been doing, we call again on all of us to BE CONSISTENT!
Ever since I joined the online space all I ever heard was "BE CONSISTENT" (especially from all the gurus *eye roll*) I always assumed being consistent meant being ON 24/7 and hustling each day without setbacks or mistakes....needless to say consistency in my world used to have zero tolerance for being human. It even contributed to me wasting 8,000+ hours on social media one year. (I talk about this in today's episode!) I'm not holding back in this episode! I'm unpacking the truth about consistency and debunking some myths around consistency that kept me stuck for a long time! Topics of discussion: My struggles and success with consistency: Learn from my experiences and avoid repeating the same mistakes. Myths exposed: Uncover hidden truths about "hustle culture" and how quality trumps quantity when it comes to lasting results. Actionable tips: Discover practical strategies to consistently do the right things for your goals, without burning out. Beyond the grind: Exploring the mindset shifts needed to embrace consistency with ease and joy And so much more! Don't forget to share the podcast! We look at how commitment and consistency are critical factors in the eventual success of your product, service or brand. It is not uncommon for someone to start on a new endeavor only to bail out before they see any of it pay off. That is the same whether you are embarking on a new diet or a new business. There have been discussions on past episodes that highlight the kind of time and planning that must go into your side hustle and business launch to give them a chance of success. Avoid Being A One Hit Wonder Through Commitment And Consistency We can all think of a one hit wonder we have come across. However, our memory is often vague and fuzzy. We may not remember the artist, author, or other details. There is some catchy part of the experience that makes it a one hit wonder or fad and then it faded. That may be suitable for some people but a business needs to be more sustainable. We are not looking for one successful month or quarter and then let it die. That is the same for a product or a service. It is not enough to do one thing one time and then be done. We need to build a solution that has an on-going value and reliability. Commit To Building A Reliable Track Record Our customers want to see a track record and we provide that through regular delivery. A track record can not be built with a random delivery schedule or spotty history. No one wants to order a product where the delivery window requires us to take a whole day off of work and then worry we missed the one minute the delivery occurred. Useful Interviews We have had more than a few guests talk about the commitment and consistency needed for a blog, podcast, or other business launch. Here are some links to refresh your memory. Here are our top three tips to help you get out of your own way: 1. Be Consistent and Build a Great Simple Plan: We've all heard it before, but consistency is truly the key to success. This mantra applies more than ever in the MSP world. The marketplace can be unpredictable, and technology is perpetually evolving. Focusing on a well-structured plan, being consistent in your approach and staying accountable will set you on the right path. Remember, the beauty often lies in simplicity. You don't always need an elaborate strategy. Sometimes, all it takes is a clear, uncomplicated plan that you adhere to consistently. This combination not only ensures that you stay the course but also provides a clear vision for your team. 2. Be Purposeful and Deliberate Every Day: Every day presents a fresh set of challenges. Some are foreseeable, while others catch us off guard. The trick is to be deliberate in your actions and to be prepared. Avoid the temptation of being reactive. Instead, take a proactive stance. This means being intentional with your daily goals and tasks, ensuring every step you take aligns with your overarching strategy. When we act with purpose, we're not merely responding to situations. We're strategically manoeuvring through them, always keeping the end goal in sight. 3. Build the Best Team That You Can Afford: Your team is the backbone of your MSP business. Their skills, dedication, and passion can propel you forward or hold you back. That's why it's crucial to invest in building the best team your resources allow. Start by mapping out a skills matrix. Understand where each team member is now and where you need them to be in the future. Once you've got this in place, you can identify the training and support they need to get there. Unfortunately, the journey also sometimes means making tough calls. If you find yourself dealing with poor performers, it's essential to address the issue head-on. Either invest time in improving their performance or make the difficult decision to let them go. Negativity and toxicity have no place in a thriving MSP business and can impact the culture, morale and engagement of your wider team In addition to these tips, I suggest tuning in to Matt Newton's story in Episode 150. As an Ex-7 figure MSP business owner, his journey emphasises the importance of connecting to your WHY, and it's a must-listen. Also, Episode 120 with Nigel Moore delves into the ever-important topic of mental health, shedding light on the barriers holding many back. It's a touching narrative that reminds us that it's okay not to be okay. Before signing off, I'd like to extend an invitation. If anything we discussed today resonates with you and you feel you could use a hand or merely wish to chat, do reach out. The intention is not sales-driven but purely to support our MSP community. Whether that means connecting you with other industry giants like Richard Tubb, Paul Green, or Mark Copeman, or directing you to our MSP Growth Hub. Sarah Schwartz and Tabitha Vasquez, two veteran real estate agents, joined Tracy Hayes to discuss how to succeed in the real estate business and the importance of marketing, connections, and community building. While Sarah has more experience working in the field, she and Tabitha are both highly respected realtors working under the guise of the Sarah Schwartz Group company. Sarah and Tabitha encourage their listeners to see real estate not just as a profitable business but as a way to add value to people's lives by providing them with the tools and guidance to find the property they want. As such, real estate offers an avenue for building and connecting communities. Therefore, they both stress the importance of creating social networks, finding and providing mentorship, and strengthening connections when working on real estate. Tune in and don't miss out on this unique view of the real estate business from two growth-driven successful woman realtors. [00:00 - 07:17] Real Estate Excellence Podcast: Sarah Schwartz and Tabitha Vasquez The Real Estate Excellence Podcast host, Tracy Hayes, introduces Sarah Schwartz and Tabitha Vasquez. Sarah Schwartz is from Baltimore, MD, and has lived in Northeast Florida since she was nine years old, and as she grew up, she got a marketing degree and got into real estate. Tabitha Vasquez is from northeast Florida and studied criminal justice, although she quit criminal law to pursue a career in real estate. Sarah talks about the current real estate market and how it's different than when she was growing up, as well as how her knowledge in marketing helped her in this field. Tabitha discusses her experience studying criminal justice, why she quit law to pursue her real estate career, and how her knowledge of criminal justice helped her in this endeavor. [07:17 - 14:59] How Sarah and Tabitha Began Their Journey in Real Estate Tabitha started working out at the gym and doing bodybuilding before she became interested in real estate. She took a course to become a real estate agent and moved to Jacksonville to finish it She started referring friends to her coach, a realtor, and then started working for her as a closer. When she got her license, she posted about it on Instagram and contacted Tabitha, who was already successful in real estate Tabitha helped Sarah learn the ropes and introduced her to other agents [14:59 - 22:33] Finding Mentorship to Succeed in the Real Estate Business Tabitha recommends finding a mentor to help guide her in her career, and she credits her top agent, Sarah Roco, for helping her find the right path. Tabitha emphasizes the importance of building relationships with brokers and clients and notes that it is important to be clear about expectations from the beginning. She credits her success to being active on social media, staying connected to military spouse communities, and being willing to try new things. [22:33 - 29:49] How to Find a Real Estate Broker Looking for a brokerage that would offer a structured learning process, Sarah found that the learning process was not linear, and she was the one who had to put in the effort to learn. She expected the learning process to be structured and straightforward, but that was not the case. It is important to think outside the box and be persistent in your client interactions. I talked to several brokers before choosing one and asked them questions about how they would handle different situations. When interviewing a broker, it is important to ask about their sphere of influence and how they have helped other agents succeed. [29:50 - 37:18] How Brokers and Agents add Value to the Clients' Lives The first step to contacting a broker is to walk into their office on the first day and see how busy it is. Call clients and brokers directly to learn how you can help them. Figure out the client's needs and let them know the ways in which you can make their lives easier. Find a good mentor who is positive and encouraging. When working with buyers or sellers, having a "see it through" mentality can be an asset. [37:19 - 44:46] The Importance of Being Meticulous When Buying and Selling Property Tracey mentions the story of Steven Jones, as he was talking about clients looking to buy a house on the beach and how many people bought houses without knowing that they would need to pay $50,000 for proof of access. The host talks about why it's important to be meticulous when buying property and that looking into your background and personality is very important. Sarah recommends reading books and listening to sermons for inspiration and mentions her Christian faith. Tabitha recommends reading a lot and checking social media to have up-to-date knowledge of the conditions of the market, as well as recent laws, news, and other information. [44:46 - 51:52] The Necessity of Education in Real Estate Success The guests discuss how important it is for agents to stay up to date on industry trends and learn new information in order to be successful. One of the main themes that are commonly discussed in real estate talks is education and how it is essential for agents to keep learning in order to stay ahead of the competition. One way that agents can keep up with industry trends and learn new information is by taking online courses or attending events with a specific subject matter. [51:52 - 59:07] Why agents Need to Be Consistent to Succeed Education is paramount for agents, and it's important to schedule education each week or month whenever there is time for it. Agents need to be constantly learning and updating their skills so they can stay ahead of the curve in the market. Being consistent is key for agents, and one way to be consistent is by posting content on social media that is relatable and enticing to the audience and doing other activities to get leads in a consistent manner. [59:07 - 01:06:25] Being Around Positive People There is no other choice but to be social media friendly and create relationships through social media. Mentors are important for agents to have because they can provide guidance and support. It is important to surround yourself with positive people who will lift you up and help you achieve your goals. You are the people you surround yourself with. Real estate agents need to be strategic when it comes to who they hang out with because it can make or break a transaction. [01:06:25 - 01:13:10] Personal Experiences from Sarah and Tabitha An agent shared that one of her biggest mistakes was interviewing multiple brokerages. They recommend reaching out to other agents at different brokerages to figure out what they need and what will work best for them. She also said that she is still working on breaking through her fear of failure. [01:13:10 - 01:20:12] Two Perspectives on Success: What You Know vs. Who You Know The Schwartz group has a strong team of professionals who help clients grow and succeed. Who you know is more important than what you know, and what you know will help you grow as a person and as a business. Successful businesses have a visionary and an integrator, and when these two are paired together, it creates a powerful force. [01:20:12 - 01:20:35] Connect with the Best of the Best and Take Your Skills to the Next Level You can join the Tracy Hayes community to connect with other real estate professionals. Belittling: means to put down or to make another person feel as though they aren't important or didn't do something noteworthy. Your effort is your effort alone. Just because you may have ridden less mileage, less elevation, or maybe even less technical terrain or “easier” trails, doesn't mean that you did any “less” than someone else. You rode what you rode. You rode YOUR ride. In this episode, I share four things you can do when you find yourself belittling your efforts. Here are some other episodes on mindset that are worth listening to: 83. Dad, Father, A Treasured Honor is my topic for today, since it is Father's Day here in Canada. I have put together 7 suggestions that can help you on your quest to being a good father. As a father, I have given a lot of thought and effort into being as good a father as possible. I'm grateful to have a son who shows strong traits of mindfulness, respect, consideration, and generosity. My father was also a man who gave me space and wise advice when I asked for it. Listen & Subscribe on: iTunes / Stitcher / Podbean / Overcast / Spotify Here are 7 tips that will help you be a good father: 1/ Listen Being a good father is about being a good listener. This is something I constantly work on with my son and also with people I teach and work with. Listen to the feedback that people provide you. It is often hidden or disguised, but if you are open to hear it, you will begin to notice. 2/ Be A Good Role-model Live your best life and remember to walk the walk and talk the talk. If you're going to do a certain thing in your life or behave in a certain way, then make sure that you're okay with your child doing that same thing. They are watching you and are aware of what you do. If you do something and you are giving the impression that you're okay with this particular action, then that speaks way louder than words. 3/ Emotions Many people push emotions aside, including me. There have been times in my life when I was not willing or able to face my emotions. Be aware of your emotions, and don't be afraid to share them. Once you're aware of your own emotions, then you can handle them in a more healthy way. You can decide to embrace them, share them, or keep them to yourself. The following can help you manage your emotions: meditation, self-hypnosis, running, swimming, or being out in nature. 4/ Give Space It is important to give space to our children so they can learn and grow in a natural way. This is one thing that my father was very good at; he gave me space to grow. He was not one of those people who smothered their children, rather he gave me space to learn and grow on my own. It takes courage and discipline to step back and give your child space but I highly recommend it. 5/ Be Open and Flexible As much as you can, be open and flexible with your children. As parents, we have our own ideas about how things should be and sometimes we can be too controlling. Guide your children in what they do and at the same time, be as open and flexible as you possibly can. As you become more open, I believe you will begin to feel the honor of being a father, and therefore you'll understand the reason I entitled this episode, Dad, Father, A Treasured Honor. 6/ Give Advice When Asked If you follow the above suggestions, your child will be more likely to ask you for advice. Take the time to advise in a thoughtful way, using stories and examples to help explain your points. 7/ Be Consistent and Grounded If you practice mindfulness, you are most likely a consistent and grounded person. I'm extremely proud of being the father of my son, Ben. I learn a tremendous amount from him due to the fact that he is a mindful and wise person. My father passed away in 2019 and I'm grateful to have had him as my father because he gave me space to learn and grow. He also gave me wise advice at various time, including advice to date my wife before we went out for the first time. I've been married to her for over twenty years now, so I'm grateful for the advice given to me by my dad.
