Eva Lopez is one of the top Spanish climbers in history. While she is largely known as one of the world's foremost researchers on training for climbing, she's also a crusher. She was the 5th woman to to climb 8c and in 2013, at 42 years old, climbed her first 8c+, a route she bolted called Potemkin. In this episode, Eva and Kris discuss the state of Spanish climbing in the 1990's and what it was like watching Josune Bereziartu come into her own during those years. They also dig into the woman vs. woman rivalries that are often played up by the media and why it's less common to see that happen today, and what Josune and her incredible accomplishments mean to climbing history. Perto do Valentine's Day, @Brighid nos dá este presente maravilhoso, esta porção mágica do amor! Feitiço pra ninguém botar defeito! Pra ouvir sem moderação!
Eva Lopez, a former student of mine at Whitney M. Young High School, recalls going to a market in Mexico with her aunt to buy a chicken. At the time, Eva was eight and believed she was choosing a chicken that would live in the farmyard and produce eggs for the family. Little did she realize, she'd be eating chicken soup in the evening. Eva's experience has led her to a deeper appreciation of the animals that nourish us all and the men and women who do the work to make it happen.
How can mother nature cultivate confidence, healing, and embodiment for LGBTQ+ people? In this episode, SUWA Community Organizer Olivia Juarez and guests Eva Lopez of Orgullo Utah and Salvador Oregon-Torres, a Utah-based LGBTQ+ and undocumented community advocate, delve into queerness in the wild. We don’t get into finger boarding protocol breakdowns, or energy system nuances. That stuff is far too confusing and gets in the way of actually showing up to the gym and trying hard. I’ve listened to a million hours of nuanced nonsense that’s hard to then apply into a training plan. Let alone a normal life of work, family and all the other things outside of climbing that make our lives feel full.In this hour, Kris and Tom talk about having a bigger view to your training, the benefits of recording your training, when you need to switch up protocols or stimulus and the importance of taking a proper critical eye to why you might be falling off your projects.Kris mentions the podcast he did with Eva Lopez about finger boarding in this episode. I would highly recommend listening to this if you want to dive deep into some science. It’s a very worthwhile one. There’s a stack of other really great informative episodes in Kris’ back catalogue, so go take a listen. Trust me, they’re worth it. Check the link here http://www.powercompanyclimbing.com/podcastStay around to the end of this, after I bid you farewell there’s a great little anecdote waiting for your ears.Follow Kris on instagram @powercompanyclimbing
