Transitioning from the grand stages of the Major League to the frontlines of emergency response, he now serves as a vital lifeline in the White River Township Fire Dept, where his dedication to teamwork, quick thinking, and unwavering courage continues to inspire both on and off the field.
In the final part of this 3-part series, we pick up right where we left off in my conversation with Olivia and Eric from Yoga For First Responders. If you did not listen to the last 2 episode, I would suggest you start their first so that you don't miss any of the great takeaways from the knowledge and passion that Olivia and Eric share. If someone were to tell you that 5,000 years ago a program was started in order to train the most elite warriors of that time to become calm and centered in any situation, I'm sure it would pique some interest. How about if you found out that it teaches mastery of the mind and optimal functioning of the entire body, sounds even better. Oh, and one last thing, the teaching and techniques of this program were so profound and so successful that they are still practiced today. I think it's safe to say that most of us would be signing up for that, if that's the case then our interest in it shouldn't fade or vanish when we find out that this practice is yoga. Hang in there though because you just might learn something that could save your life. For more info on YFFR and to access their on-demand app visit their website: yogaforfirstresponders.orgTo set up live instruction email: success@yogaforfirstresponders.orgTo watch introductory videos and access other free content go to: ondemand.yogaforfirstresponders.orgTo receive the 30-page Buy-In Packet email your request to info@yogaforfirstresponders.orgAlso check out their new podcast "On Air by Yoga For First Responders" wherever you listen to podcasts.

Jason Patton, an Olympic weightlifter in the past, is now firefighter and the admin owner of social media "Fire Department Chronicles".A Riviera Beach firefighter is always ready to save a life on a moment’s notice and he can also make you laugh. Jason Patton is the man behind Fire Department Chronicles, where he shares hilarious videos to help life the spirits of firefighters worldwide.Besides making them laugh, he encourages his viewers to donate to his organization, Fire Department Coffee Foundation. He is the Vice President of the non-profit and takes pride in giving back and raising money for charities.“Fire Department Chronicles, myself and Fire Department Coffee has donated just over $10,000 to local fire departments, firefighters with cancer. We gave a scholarship, HCI, to a kid in Riviera Beach. We sent him to EMT school for free,” Patton said. “I’ve always said that in any business, or in anyone’s life, the foundation of your life should be built on helping others.”His latest charitable opportunity is not an easy task.Patton is preparing to climb 110 flights of stairs for the San Antonio 9/11 Memorial Climb.“It’s in memory of the 343 firefighters that passed away on 9/11,” he said at Tiara Condominiums on Singer Island, where he trains. “It’s our way of showing tribute to them.”Participants are encouraged to wear their firefighter gear as they climb 110 flights of stairs to pay tribute to the hundreds of emergency responders who were killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.But Patton decided to take it a step further by adding an additional 10 pounds of gear for every $500 he raises.“I’ll be climbing a nice 110 pounds of gear,” he said. That means Patton will be going to the top weighing at about 350 pounds, since the average weight of a firefighter in gear is 255 pounds. All the money he will raise for this event will go towards the Tommy Cullen Foundation, an organization that support families of firefighters battling cancer.“It’s humbling to even have the opportunity to do this,” Patton said.Click here to follow Fire Department Chronicles.Check out this week's podcast with Jason Patton the creator of Fire Department Chronicles https://www.facebook.com/firedepartmentchronicleshttps://www.instagram.com/firedepartmentchronicles
On Today's Episode we take a deep dive into a critical aspect of resiliency, knowing your why. Understanding why you do what you do is a foundational element that defines your services as a First Responder. When we start out on the job we have a general idea to 'protect and serve' but most of us never really defined our reasons for becoming Heroes. And, as time goes by, and cynicism and job fatigue or burnout assert themselves, we can completely lose touch with our why and that hijacks one of the essential aspects of being human...to know our purpose, to gain meaning from our service and ultimately to leave a legacy. Not only will we kick around this important topic, at the end there is an exercise that will help you to discover, or rediscover your why...and my coaching clients and classroom students have told me that this is among the most powerful of the exercises we do to get them back on track and motivated toward their career.

Every CEO or leader has spent some time in what I call firefighter mode. It is that type of leadership where you are the one that has to make decisions and put out fires. You want to be a servant to your people and remove challenges. You think it is the best use of your time. Well, that is until you stop and think about it. For me, it took hiring a leadership coach as I was running a $1m company and all I had before the coach was fires to put out. Becoming a leader that is effective and respected means you have to stop being a firefighter. Becoming a leader is intentional. In this short video, I share my story of being a firefighter and how I broke the pattern to become a leader.
