E227 - Interview with Jason Patton from Fire Fighter Chronicles This week we had the pleasure of welcoming Jason Patton of Fire Fighter Chronicles and Fire Department Coffee to the podcast. After a rocky start due to internet connectivity we dive into Jason's early years as a fire fighter, the strange calls we run and what prompted him to start filming videos and posting to social media. We hope you enjoy the show as much as we did. WHO WE ARE As a group of Rural Volunteer Firefighters, our Fire Department has built our firefighter training from both old and new tactics in the fire service and adapted them to fit the realities of equipment, manpower, and costs around what our community requires. WHAT WE DO We create video, audio and written word content to share these training and tactics methods with our Brothers and Sisters in our extended fire families, and to showcase to those that may be interested in becoming firefighters the fun you can have and the amazing skills and abilities you get to learn, whilst keeping the lives of the people around you safe! WHY WE SHARE Firefighters are problem solvers whose role requires them to be on their best day whilst others are having their worst day, and while we do not claim to be perfect we are willing to put our lives on the line to try. It's during the trying that we continue to develop the mindset, tactics, and training that allow us to be effective, safe and successful where it's needed the most, and by sharing our experiences we hope that it may help other Fire Departments in creating what works for them to help bring everyone home safe. Jason Patton from #Firedepartmentchronicals and #firedeptcoffee will be joining us live on the stage at the tournament. And there's more! This week Will wants to discuss generating #buyin. What is buy-in and how do you achieve it? Is it something you even want? Will shares a personal story of why buy-in is important to him. In doing some research on the topic, will came across articles that say buy-in is not what you want. Instead, they argue you want #ownership. Join the crew in a free discussion on their take of ownership Vs buy-in, what it means to them, and how and why they want to achieve it. Be sure to leave us feedback on your thoughts on the topic. To round out this shorter episode, the fan favorite, #questionoftheday. Veering away from food topics, Will asks everyone what their most prized possessions are. Antique firearms, family heirlooms, military memorabilia, and even dogs are on the list. Listen along as they share their most prized possessions and why they mean so much to them. What about you? Thank you, as always, for joining us and for your support. We couldn't do this without you, our viewers and listeners. See you next week!

When Luke and Jason went into the coffee roasting business, they had no background in business — so they had to learn as they went. They didn't have a business plan or strategy in place, but they learned how to build an e-commerce business on their own. Within just a few months, they outgrew their first location as demand for their products grew. Funny man Jason Patton, takes a very unique approach to bringing awareness to mental health - he uses comedy. In this episode, Jason talks about the best way to treat firefighters when they are exposed to trauma and the thought process around getting help. He also talks about his personal views on what needs to change and what is already being done. Mental health providers face an uphill battle when treating firefighters. One of the biggest challenges within the fire service when seeking help is the stigma. Firefighters do not trust that mental health providers are able to understand their problems and therefore resist going into treatment. Firefighters like Jason Patton can speak the language and help get other firefighters into treatment by explaining the process and reducing the anxiety around the unknown. Having someone who has been there, telling you what to expect, is very powerful and extremely helpful for that person to take the first step. Jason's covered a lot of ground on these videos, from whether TV shows about firefighters are realistic … what do YOU think he found? …to how to get fired. But the one that caught my attention most recently was one in which he critiqued a Wall Street Journal video about firefighting. It was titled, “The Five Things a Firefighter or Paramedic Won't Tell You.” There's link to it in the show notes. Jason set about correcting the record in his own..unique…way. Ever been somewhere and people around you start doing something out of the norm to the point of it being uncomfortable? That's a lack of couth and decorum.  Well this week the world decided to go down that path and Jason Patton and Gary Weed join Mark Bland to discuss all of it. If you haven't been under a rock, you know the story about the kids in MAGA hats getting in the face of a Native American man at a pro-life rally in Washington DC. The story has caught massive attention because of a few things. 1. How the media reported the original incident 2. How the children from Covington High school treated the elder Native man 3. The use of the Trump hat as a sign of the times 4. The discussion of parents and where were the adult supervisors in the situation Mark and the guys discuss these 4 things as they traverse the world of decorum and where we are as a society in 2019. ALSO...the LA Rams made it to the Super Bowl against the Patriots and Gary is a huge Rams fan. This led to some online back and forth between Mark and Gary (being on opposite sides of the game) and a GRIEVANCE once again presented itself. Both Mark and Gary have their complaint and they bring it to the table to discuss live on the air. Who was in the right or wrong? Or were neither?  You find out! Finally, Covington High School, just couldn't get out of their own way. Once the media storm hit, they got caught with video from a basketball game.  This is important because of the MAGA hat and their involvement with something people considered a little off color....well it becomes really off color when the same school from the mass hysteria also seems to have a somewhat racist belief its okay to do blackface, even accentuating the eyes and lips with white makeup like Al jolson did. This wasn't kids making a mistake...this was kids being okay'd by their parents to get away with something the parents knew better about. The guys break all this down and much more on this episode of the Q!

It's a tale of two Jason's on this episode of the Q. First up Jason Kull jumps back in, as well as Jason Patton returns to discuss the 2019 Government Shutdown that is continuing from last year.  First up the guys discuss the government shutdown and whether it necessary or not. Of course this is stemming from the President's need to fund a border wall on the southern US border and it requires 5 billion dollars according to Trump. Mark shoots back with the fact that its never the Northern Border, which also is Wall-less, that needs to be secured. And the reason for that being that Trump is tunnel visioned people from Mexico and attacking them as much as possible. All which he himself has done online through social media for years. Then Jason Patton brings up whiskey and beer as a option to drink. But the convo turns towards bad beer and especially one that Jason tried that is supposed to taste of PINE CONE. A Pine cone flavored beer sounds disgusting and Jason explains whether it is or not. And finally, the story of the young man that was a wrestler and had to cut his dreads because the ref asked him to during an match in front of the entire crowd. Was the ref in the right or wrong?  Mark and Jason Patton are both Pro-wrestlers with experience in competitive wrestling. And Mark knows the Missouri State Wrestling Guidelines say nothing about any rule about hair on the body of anyone. So the world has been chiming in and so do the two Jay's and Marky B. But where do the guys stand...is this okay or a travesty! All this and much more on the new Q! Happy New Years! #winning #governmentshutdown #theq

Mark Bland met Jason Patton in the late 1990's and they have maintained a relationship ever since.  Jason started training at the legendary South Broadway athletic club in 1999 and that's when him and Mark struck up the friendship....BUT HOLD THE PHONE....Jason explains this on the back of a 6 year stint in PRISON! WHAT???  Mark gets it revealed to him for the first time live on this show that his friend Jason not only robbed a bank and went to prison for 6 years, but he was put into the Federal Penitentiary at Leavenworth...the oldest in the country. And one of the most notorious in the country to this day. What to watch out for and who to watch out for. If you were wanting a background in the prison system of the US, this episode of the Q opens up a world little seen by many.   The guys discuss the difference between state and federal level prisons and Jason talks about the most evil human being he's ever encountered in his entire life. A riveting discussion that surely will open your eyes. Jason opens up about his past and all of it in the hopes that someone listening will change their ways and not want to be in the same spot he was in.  All this on the new episode of The Q!
