The iconic DeLorean DMC-12 rolled off the production line in Belfast on 21st January, 1981. Priced at $25,000, the stainless steel gullwing sportscar was marketed as a luxury item, but its actual features fell short of the hype. The DeLorean Motor Company faced financial troubles, and had ceased production within just two years. But the car found its way into the "Back to the Future" script because John DeLorean, the man behind the car, was embroiled in a $24 million cocaine conspiracy, making headlines during the film's development. In this episode, The Retrospectors explain how DeLorean leveraged his profile within the car industry to raise the funds to finance his dream project; explain how the car's production in Northern Ireland led to untrained workers and corporate deceit of the British government; and reveal how Doc Brown very nearly drove a Mustang... On this latest installment of "Happy Home Invastion For The Holidays!," Aaron talks about irresponsible pet owners by having a midnight snack outta Joe Dante's 1984 Christmastime classic that famously contrasts the cheery lightness of the holiday season with devilish monsters and family-friendly horror: Gremlins!  Written by Chris Columbus, and produced (alongside Warner Bros.) by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, Gremlins is a deliciously cheesy casserole with holiday dressing, and a true testament to why people should just follow the rules sometimes.  Even after 40 years, the film remains a pitch-perfect blend of black comedy, horror, and family-friendly fun that continues to stand the test of time. Few movies blend chaos, comedy, and holiday cheer as seamlessly as Gremlins (1984). This darkly delightful gem from director Joe Dante and producer Steven Spielberg has become a holiday classic for its irreverent tone and unforgettable creatures. Whether you're drawn in by the fuzzy charm of Gizmo or the anarchic antics of his mischievous offspring, Gremlins offers something unique: a satirical horror-comedy that's heartwarming and horrifying. We hope you enjoy this Gremlins (1984) movie review as our last episode of 2024Setting the StageSet in the idyllic small town of Kingston Falls, Gremlins begins with an innocent Christmas gift that goes spectacularly awry. Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) receives a Mogwai—a mysterious, cuddly creature named Gizmo—from his father, an eccentric inventor. Along with the gift come three rules: don't expose him to bright light, don't get him wet, and never, ever feed him after midnight. Naturally, all three rules are broken, unleashing a chaotic chain of events as Gizmo spawns a horde of Gremlins, who terrorize the town in increasingly outlandish ways. The Characters: Lovable and LoathsomeGalligan's Billy is the quintessential everyman, navigating the chaos with wide-eyed determination, but the supporting cast truly shines. Phoebe Cates brings depth to her role as Kate, Billy's resourceful love interest, delivering one of the film's most haunting—and unexpectedly poignant—moments with her infamous “Santa Claus” monologue. However, the real stars are the creatures themselves. Gizmo, voiced by Howie Mandel, embodies adorableness, while Stripe, the leader of the Gremlins, is a maniacal scene-stealer. The practical effects and puppetry give these characters a tactile realism that CGI often struggles to replicate.A Genre-Bending TriumphWhat sets Gremlins apart is its masterful tone. The film walks a fine line between horror and comedy, never fully committing to one genre but excelling at both. The Gremlins' antics range from slapstick humour to genuinely unsettling terror, such as the sequence in which they stalk Billy's mother through their eerily decorated home. At the same time, the film pokes fun at American consumerism and small-town clichés, adding a layer of satire that rewards repeat viewings.A Holiday Movie Like No OtherWhile it's often considered a Christmas movie, Gremlins gleefully subverts holiday tropes. Yes, there are twinkling lights, carolers, and a snow-covered backdrop, but the Gremlins themselves turn these festive symbols into instruments of mayhem. A quiet tree becomes a hiding spot for an ambush, and a holiday dinner is interrupted by chaos and destruction. This juxtaposition of cheerful aesthetics with dark comedy makes Gremlins an enduringly fresh experience.Cinematic CraftsmanshipJoe Dante's direction is pitch-perfect, balancing the film's disparate tones with finesse. Jerry Goldsmith's score is equally memorable, alternating between whimsical themes for Gizmo and eerie cues for the Gremlins. Cinematographer John Hora captures the coziness of Kingston Falls before plunging it into chaos, creating a visual dichotomy that enhances the story. The film's practical effects are a standout feature, showcasing the artistry of the pre-digital era. From Gizmo's expressive face to the Gremlins' grotesque transformations, every creature feels alive. It's a testament to the ingenuity of the filmmakers that these effects remain impressive nearly four decades later.Cultural Impact and LegacyReleased in the summer of 1984 alongside Ghostbusters and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins was part of a pivotal moment in blockbuster history. Its mix of humour and horror challenged traditional genre boundaries, paving the way for films like Beetlejuice and Shaun of the Dead. The movie's success also led to the creation of the PG-13 rating, as its content was deemed too intense for a PG audience but not graphic enough for an R. This marked a turning point in how films were rated, influencing decades of cinema.Gremlins spawned a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, which leaned even further into self-referential humour. While the sequel is beloved in its own right, the original remains the definitive entry, capturing the perfect balance of whimsy and wickedness. Why Gremlins EnduresPart of what makes Gremlins so enduring is its ability to surprise. Just when you think you've figured out its tone or message, it throws you a curveball, whether it's a heartfelt moment with Gizmo or an unexpectedly dark turn. It's a film that delights in defying expectations, making it a joy to revisit year after year. Moreover, its themes remain relevant. The dangers of irresponsible consumerism, the chaos of unchecked innovation, and the fine line between cute and creepy all resonate just as strongly today as they did in 1984.Final ThoughtsGremlins is more than just a movie—it's a cultural touchstone that continues to inspire filmmakers and entertain audiences. Its blend of humor, horror, and holiday spirit is unmatched, making it a must-watch for fans of 80s cinema and genre mashups. So grab some popcorn (but maybe skip the midnight snack), and let yourself be swept away by the mischievous magic of Gremlins. Just remember the rules. This episode of Born to Watch dives deep into the legacy of Gremlins, exploring its unique blend of comedy, horror, and holiday cheer. Whether you're a first-time viewer or a lifelong fan, this movie review will rekindle your love for a film that remains as delightfully chaotic as ever. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcasthttps://www.borntowatch.com.au/

Des fusées nazies aux astrocapitalistes du New Space, La Fabrique, 2024- Konstantin Eduardovitch Tsiolkovski, lettre à B N. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. Last week, mere minutes after our Tuesday evening recording session, we were both delighted and disheartened when Marvel Studios dropped its “Look Ahead | Disney Plus'' trailer, which not only provided release dates, but showcased our first official look at footage, for a whopping 8 streaming projects. Here's what we learned: Box office juggernaut Deadpool & Wolverine will be available to stream on the platform beginning November 12, 2024. We already knew Daredevil: Born Again is set to begin streaming March 4, 2025, but the trailer, which was intercut with footage from the other shows, gave us our first look at the villain Muse, the return of Jon Bernthal's Punisher, as well as Bullseye, and perhaps most surprisingly the inclusion of Ms. Marvel's dad, Yusuf Khan What If Season 3 will begin streaming this December 22nd, with no word as to whether that will be a weekly or daily release, like last year. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will begin airing January 29th, 2025 Riri William's Ironheart makes her return beginning June 24th, 2025 Eyes of Wakanda, the animated anthology series is set for an August 6th, 2025 debut Marvel Zombies will premiere sometime in October 2025, with the live action Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II arriving later that December. In a final marketing push ahead of its December 3 premiere, Lucasfilm released final art, a poster, and a new trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The series, which is helmed by Spider-Man filmmaker Jon Watts, is an Amblin Entertainment-inspired coming of age tale that follows four youths who embark on a swashbuckling adventure with unexpected revelations. The trailer is in keeping with what we've seen from the series thus far, which is to say it feels tonally divergent from anything we've seen in Star Wars before, including new species, planets, and a synth-pop heavy score. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is gearing up to bring the world of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones to the silver screen with at least one film in early development. And that's pretty much all we know – there's no creative talent attached yet, meaning no writer or director, much less any word regarding a potential time, setting, or characters that might be involved. Amazon MGM Studios is testing actors for the role of Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's upcoming Tomb Raider series. Sophie Turner and Lucy Boynton top Amazon's wish list, according to Deadline. Scary Movie creators Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are reuniting after 18 years to develop a new film in the franchise for Paramount and Miramax. Kelly Macdonald, known for Boardwalk Empire and No Country for Old Men, has joined the cast of DC Studios' Lanterns. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Jack Ryan film, continuing the series storyline with John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, and Michael Kelly. Andrew Bernstein will direct. Early box office projections show Wicked opening at over $80 million domestically and Gladiator 2 at $65 million, both debuting on November 22. Universal Pictures and LEGO have partnered to develop three live-action LEGO films, directed by Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish. Toho has officially greenlit a new Godzilla movie from the director of last year's Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. Amazon MGM Studios has acquired American Speed, starring Tom Holland and Austin Butler as the scandal-ridden Whittington Brothers, with Oscar-winning producer Charles Roven attached. Ridley Scott revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he's working on a new Alien movie for 20th Century Studios, though it's unclear if it's connected to the Alien: Romulus follow-up or a standalone project. Tom Cruise is in early talks with Paramount for a Days of Thunder sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In this episode, Anna Smith speaks to the creators behind Prime Video's new series, My Lady Jane, including creator/writer Gemma Burgess and writer Meredith Glynn, as well as the executive producer of My Lady Jane, the legendary Laurie MacDonald. Anna begins by speaking to Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn about the creation of the series, including the inspiration they found in their shared love of films from the 80s and 90s, and how keen they were to bring the playful tone of those films into the series. They discuss their exciting revisionist approach to history and the importance of the representation of women both behind and in front of the camera. Next, Anna speaks to Laurie MacDonald, who was the co-head of Amblin Entertainment and the co-president of DreamWorks, and together with her husband has produced the Men in Black series, Gladiator, Minority Report, and The Trial of Chicago 7, as well as American Beauty and Free Solo. They talk about what first attracted her to adapt the book, about the depiction of women through a female gaze, and the way that the production celebrates diversity. She speaks more broadly about how things have changed for women in both the industry and gender dynamics and offers advice to listeners who are looking to work in the film industry. The RSA begins their first movie series of Season 3! They'll only be doing 5 of the 13 movies! The RSA gang begins the first of Land Before Time movies! a 1988 animated adventure drama film directed and produced by Don Bluth from a screenplay by Stu Krieger and a story by Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss, and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall. The film stars the voices of Gabriel Damon, Candace Hutson, Judith Barsi and Will Ryan with narration provided by Pat Hingle. It is the first film in The Land Before Time franchise. Produced by Amblin Entertainment and Sullivan Bluth Studios, it features dinosaurs living in prehistoric times. The plot features a young brown Apatosaurus named Littlefoot, who ends up alone after his mother is attacked by a villainous Tyrannosaurus rex and dies. Littlefoot flees famine and upheaval to search for the Great Valley, an area spared from devastation, where the adult dinosaurs have moved on to. On his journey, he meets four young companions: Cera, an orange Triceratops, Ducky, a green Saurolophus, Petrie, a brown Pteranodon, and Spike, a green Stegosaurus.[4] The film explores issues of prejudice between the different species and the hardships they endure in their journey as they are guided by the spirit of Littlefoot's mother and forced to deal with a "sharptooth" (Tyrannosaurus rex). The Land Before Time is the only Don Bluth film of the 1980s in which Dom DeLuise did not participate (instead, he starred in Disney's Oliver & Company released that same day), and the only film in The Land Before Time series that is not a musical, as well as the only one to be released theatrically worldwide. It was also the last film that Bluth directed that was distributed by Universal Pictures. The film was released by Universal on November 18, 1988, to generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $84.4 million. Its success, along with An American Tail and the 1988 live-action/animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit led Spielberg to found his animation studio, Amblimation. The first film spawned a franchise with thirteen direct-to-video sequels, a television series, video games and merchandise, none of which had Bluth, Spielberg nor Lucas' involvement (though Amblin Entertainment was involved in the television series like it was for Fievel's American Tails). It is currently Don Bluth's third highest-grossing animated film, only behind Anastasia (1997) and An American Tail (1986).

Hi! Hello! So originally I was gonna write a version of the song from “We're Back: A Dinosaur Story” but like…the vast majority of you don't know that song or probably that movie. John Goodman sings. It's a whole thing. But the kids today have their Dreamworks and their Disneys and before Dreamworks was riding high on money made from Shrek memes and people paying to not see that Will Smith fish face ever again, those animators worked for Amblin Entertainment making, among other things, this absolutely wild animated movie about dinosaurs and museums and bluebirds and a guy (spoilers) being EATEN ALIVE BY CROWS IN A CHILDREN'S MOVIE. The kids in the movie are wild–one is this little tough guy who sounds like an extra in the “Bing Bong” tiktok (I'll link it below) and the other kid is just Daisy Buchanan voiced by Lisa Simpson (no, it's the same voice actor and I just spend the entire movie waiting for her to start screaming at Bing Bong to quit it). Julia Child voices a scientist named Dr. Bleeb (I don't know why but this last name sends literal shivers down my spine) and Jay Leno voices an alien and John Goodman as a dinosaur keeps doing this impression of a scientist who is voiced by Walter Cronkite and it's all like…very well done but totally unhinged? Not to mention the plot of this thing which is Gwen Stefani levels of bananas and the more I talk about this more this might actually be an episode, so...forget that you read this because I might reuse these jokes. Anyway, “We're Back: A Dinosaur Story” is a cinematic masterpiece and this episode is also a masterpiece and a celebration of two dinosaurs coming back from the dead to…um…go to the Museum of Natural History. (So sue me, the metaphor isn't 1:1.)

Ce projet autobiographique a mis plusieurs décennies à voir le jour. Le cinéaste américain multi-récompensé s'est très largement fait connaître grâce à des blockbusters comme « Rencontres du troisième type », « E.T. » ou encore « La liste de Schindler ». 1987 saw the release of the Academy Award winning film Harry and the Hendersons. That Oscar was for makeup and hairstyling, which makes sense when you consider that the star of the story is in fact a bigfoot. It was adapted into a sitcom a mere four years later. Both were produced by Amblin Entertainment, best known as the Spielberg-helmed production company responsible for another 1980s family-meets-fantasy-creature-drama E.T. The Extra Terrestrial…the image of which is right in their logo. This very Hairy show replaced John Lithgow and Melinda Dillon with Bruce Davison and Molly Cheek, as the parents of a family who happen upon a friendly bigfoot and adopt him into their family. Brynn, Aaron and Barry go on a hike in the Pacific Northwest and try to determine if Harry's ‘feets' are in fact…too big. Does God still perform miracles? It seems like He did them all the time when you read the Bible. Elisha was making iron axe heads float, Jonah was living inside a giant fish for three days and three nights, and Peter was healing people's crippled limbs left and right. So why does life look so different today? When Steven Spielberg started Amblin Entertainment he handpicked Joe Dante as one of the first directors he wanted to work with. Together, Spielberg and Dante had a hattrick of collaborations, Twilight Zone, Gremlins, and of course Innerspace. Sci-Fi Comedy is never an easy endeavor, but with the help of Martin Short and Dennis Quaid, Joe Dante delivered a classic 80s flick! Today on Buzzn The Tower we'll get a hold of both microchips and spend some time talking about Innerspace. I'm Mo Shapiro and joining me as always the Jack Putter to my Tuck Pendleton, Max Sanders and with that..
