CJ Ramone aka Christopher Joseph Ward's ALLEGED legal testimony has entered the broiling Ramones estate feud between Linda Ramone and Mickey Leigh. If real, it paints a damning, weighted picture of Joey's relationship with his brother. Regrets, we've had a few. The biggest regrets we've had with RAM is the passing of some legendary figures before we had the chance to sit down with them. We can only imagine what questions we would have picked their brains with. So now we're doing the next best thing. We compiled a list of deceased artists and present a question we'd like to throw at them. Artists like Dee Dee Ramone, Chuck of Death and El Duce(!!). What question would you throw to your fave heavenly Headbanger. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we hit the live front, found a copy of the original Marvel KISS comic and pay tribute to a local Punk legend. Musically, we crank some Necophagia, Attacker, Mentors, Pentagram, Dogs With Jobs, Scavenger, Fetid Grave, Cell and Mung. Horns Up!
Alan Lee Shaw in conversation with David Eastaugh English guitarist whose career began after leaving art school, in music projects with Twink. He later formed short-lived The Rings with 'Twink' Alder & drummer Rod Latter, before he and Latter created punk band Maniacs with bassist Robert Crash. In 1977 Shaw created glam-punksters Physicals, who released a single, with Paul Cook on drums. This was followed by stints in Brian James' "Brains" and "The Hellions" (managed by Miles Copeland) from 1980. During 1981, Shaw teamed up in a writing partnership with Kirsty MacColl. During 1983 there was another brief band, "Hush Hush" with Chris Sol. Then, with Sol, the eponymous band album "Heaven And The Angels" in 1986 and a later shelved UK project with Dee Dee Ramone. Another brief spell with a Brian James band was followed by Shaw joining The Damned in 1993.

What The Riff?!? makes another "stab" at Halloween with these theme songs, movie and TV music, and rock songs with a bent towards the macabre. We hope you enjoy this second "Halloween" special! Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran This is the breakthrough song off Duran Duran's Rio album. It was inspired by the Big Bad Wolf in the Little Red Riding Hood story. It is also wone of the first times where video popularity drove the success of the band, with Duran Duran on constant play for the new MTV station.Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo Danny Elfman fronted this new wave band before he became famous for his work on film scores. It also appeared in the comedy film "Back to School" starring Rodney Dangerfield. This Is Halloween by Marilyn Manson Oingo Boingo wrote this track for "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and shock rocker Marilyn Manson takes on this cover.Theme from the "Harry Potter" film series The Wizarding world of Harry Potter has been an enduring franchise, and this music draws us into that world from the first few notes.Pet Sematary by The Ramones Steven King was a big fan of the Ramones, and invited the band to his place in Maine. While there Dee Dee Ramone wandered into the basement with a copy of King's "Pet Sematary" and returned an hour later with the lyrics to this song.Bad Things by Jace Everett "True Blood" is a series on HBO based on a novel called "The Southern Vampire Mysteries," and the show portrays vampires in a campy, dark comedy style. Country singer-songwriter Jace Everett provided the intro music to this series.Werewolf Bar Mitzvah by Donald Glover and Tracy Morgan A skit in the television series "30 Rock" would produce this song. Originally a 7-second clip from a skit, it was turned into a full fledged Halloween novelty song due to popular demand.Witch Doctor by David Seville The origins of this song go back to 1958, where Seville tells the story of how a guy learned to talk to girls from a witch doctor friend. It has become a well known novelty song covered by a number of artists.Devil in Disguise by Elvis Presley The King dropped this single in 1963 about a girl who uses her charm to manipulate people to get what she wants. It peaked at number 3 on the Billboard singles chart. You're Dead by Norma Tanega Singer-songwriter and experimental musician Norma Tanega was better known for writing songs for Dusty Springfield. However, this song which she penned in 1966 was picked up for use in the vampire satire "What We Do In the Shadows" in 2014.Devil Went Down to Georgia by the Charlie Daniels Band Folks, don't bet your soul against the Devil. But if you do, make sure you're the best fiddler that there has ever been. Charlie Daniels would peak at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with this song.Runnin' with the Devil by Van Halen The first album that Van Halen produced was a monster in itself, and this track was the first one on the album. It is a great introduction to the band, not only for Eddie Van Halen's guitar work, but also for David Lee Roth's screams, Michael Anthony's high harmonies, and Alex Van Halen's percussion work.
In 1987, before leaving the Ramones, Dee Dee embarked on a brief hip hop career as rapper "Dee Dee King" with the album Standing in the Spotlight. Dee Dee had recorded "Funky Man" as Dee Dee King in 1987. Music critic Matt Carlson wrote that the album "will go down in the annals of pop culture as one of the worst recordings of all time". After the album failed, he returned to punk rock with various short-lived projects such as Sprocket (which also featured Richard 'The Atomic Elf' Bacchus of D Generation and the Spikey Tops). Tony started his professional career in the music industry in 1980 at the age of 16 years old. Playing drums since the age of 3 Tony had been pounding on his dad's 1948 Radio King drum set that was a fixture in the basement of his Queens, NY home! Not only was Tony's dad a professional musician but his grandfather and his great grandfather back in Italy were as well. It seems that music was Tony's destiny. With so many musicians in the family, Tony's listening palette was broad and wide! Opera and Big band jazz were the main stays on the turntables back then. As was the Beatles, Bee Gee's, James Taylor and all the pop artists of the day. One influential film Tony remembers was “The Glenn Miller Story”. In the story “Glenn” is searching for that “sound”. Tony's Mom would often refer to this, as Tony would come up from the basement looking for that “sound” on his drums - bewildered as to how the drums sounded so big and fat on the records. The quest was on for the “Holiest of Grails” a great drum sound! As time passed, Tony went on to work in the Studio and Live concerts with the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, Carrie Underwood, Ramone, Diane Warren, Keith Thomas, Kip Winger, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Broening, Amy Grant, Donna Summer, Roberta Flack, Paul Taylor, Discrete Drums Loop Series, Toby Mac, Cindy Bradley, Jay Soto, Stephanie Smith, Ayeisha Woods, Rebecca Saint James, Britt Nicole, Stevie B, Sweet Sensation, Kathy Troccoli, Regie Hamm, Crystal Lewis, Avalon, John Elefante, Van Zandt and on. His career has taken him from NYC to LA to his current residence in Franklin, TN. (A quaint city 14 miles outside of Music Row in downtown Nashville.) Tony is a successful session drummer and producer in Nashville. After years of touring, he had the good fortune to get into the session scene in town. The scene was healthy but still changing. Session work was going through some severe changes due to budgets and technical changes. After an encounter with LA session musician J.R Robinson, Tony was convinced that the future of tracking was going to be done in the home. Now for a gtr track or vocal overdub maybe so, but drums? Here we go again searching for that “sound” in a 25 x 25 Garage built for storing cars and gardening equipment not killer drum sounds. With much investigation and a great builder with vision, they turned the Garage and Utility room into what now is one of the busiest drum tracking rooms in town. For 8 years now Tony Morra has been tracking drums for demos, custom records, indie projects. Sounds about right, but NO! There's more!( Billy Mayes moment) Tony is tracking drums for Masters, Television, Film, Loop Libraries you hear on TV and on radio everyday. Tony is one of the leaders in home recording through the Internet since it was possible to do so! He has been a beta tester for many online programs that make it easier to do sessions in real time. What was thought to be a little drum room for some extra work has turned into a livelihood. Tony's clients span the world! These sessions are done at his home with the sounds rivaling those done in the largest and most expensive studios. A big part of Tony's career was happening when he thought he had no career! In between gigs and tours in NY when work was lean, Tony would find work as an assistant engineer at jingle studios for jingle writer friends of his. He would also get to play live drums for them from time to time, but this was when the industry was moving to drum machines and loops. These experiences, which he took for granted in that he was just “collecting a check when gigs were slow”, gave him a wealth of knowledge of the recording industry and working with midi and sequencers. Mind you this is before Pro Tools! All editing was done with a razor and a prayer. Oh and he knows how to align a tape machine! That knowledge has paid huge dividends in that beyond being an accomplished musician, he is an accomplished tracking engineer. Still Tony will bring in Top Nashville engineers to help dial in new sounds and experiment with gear. His room is outfitted with the best gear there is, Daking, API, GML, Avalon, Neve EQ's, DBX 160's, Distressors, Telefunken Pre's, vintage Orbans and so on! The mics are no joke; Neumann U47, AKG's, Audio Technica, KM 184's, modified Ribbons.........and a ProTools HDX system. It's a new world and a new frontier in recording. Tony's embracing it! Using what's available to make the finest quality Drum Tracks available for those who might never have been able to afford to do so and for those where budget is not even a concern. On April 2, 2023, the music world lost a pivotal figure in Seymour Stein. As a teenager, Stein worked for Billboard Magazine and was instrumental in the development of the standard bearer for measuring pop music success in the United States, the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1966, Stein co-founded Sire Records with Richard Gottherer. In the earliest days of the label, much of their focus was on bringing UK underground and progressive music to US record buyers, with distribution deals with London and ABC. Stein's most fruitful alliance was with Warner Brothers, where Sire was responsible for breaking punk, new wave, and alternative artists including Ramones, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Replacements, The Ocean Blue, and many more to American audiences...not to mention one of the biggest pop stars to walk the earth, Madonna. We salute the spectacular Sire Records catalogue and remember Seymour Stein this week. Our Third Lad is a self-professed rock n' roll historian and fellow Sire Records afficionado, Brian Eichenberger from the wonderful podcast Rock n Roll Bedtime Stories. Each week, Brian and his friend/co-host Murdock go deep to discuss (and set straight) the rumor, innuendo, and hidden details that surround some of your favorite bands and songs. We're big fans of the show, and think you will be too! It's only fitting for Brian's appearance that we tell a few titillating bedtime stories during the episode: How Seymour Stein chased Dee Dee Ramone out of his bedroom! Sire passes on a legendary guitarist! The artist who pestered Seymour in the hospital! Crazy Phil Spector! Find out who Uncle Gregg nearly punched! Fake bands and unscrupulous managers! Fake TV songs! Tiffany! So tuck yourself in tight and let us aurally cuddle with you. Only Three Lads is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family. Learn more about your ad choices. The Ramones were one of the most influential bands to emerge from New York City in the 1970s. Hailing from the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens, the Ramones helped to define the sound, style, and attitude of a new musical genre that came to be known as punk rock. With Joey Ramone's unique vocal delivery, Johnny Ramone's buzzsaw guitar, Dee Dee Ramone's twisted, hilarious songwriting, and Tommy Ramone's powerful no-frills drumming, the Ramones helped to spark a musical revolution that is still reverberating to this day. This week on Remainders, we talk Brian De Palma and his 1981 film Blow Out. A classic in Travolta's and De Palma's filmography, the story of a movie soundman uncovering a murder plot against a presidential candidate has grown in appreciation amongst cinephiles since its release over 40 years ago. De Palma's innovative camera movements and focus on doubles and murder mystery do not go unnoticed as Hitchcock devotees, in addition to all time performances from Travolta and John Lithgow as the lurking serial killer. We pay homage to one of the most important auteurs of the 70s. Other topics include Tarantino's great book Cinema Speculation, new movies Air and Renfield, Dee Dee Ramone's hip hop, L.A. movie billboards vs. Chicago's movie billboards, John Lithgow's best performances, and Dennis Franz's exquisite scumbaggery. Joseph Brooks was instrumental in shaping the entire Los Angeles music and club scene for decades. His impeccable musical taste became his job and nowadays, he'd be called an influencer. In 1981, with partner Henry Peck, he opened the groundbreaking alternative record store Vinyl Fetish, known as much for their sarcastic clerks as for the import records they stocked. In store appearances by artists befriended in the UK before they became famous, like Siouxsie And The Banshees, Duran Duran and Depeche Mode put the store on the map. Soon, Joseph and Henry started their first club The Veil, devoted to death rock, which later became known as goth. From there, Joseph either conceived of and/or spun discs at the hottest clubs in town: Fetish, Glam Slam, Sin-A-Matic, English Acid, Cherry and more. In this episode, Joseph and hostess Pleasant Gehman compare notes from the Hollywood underground during the 80's and 90's and into the early two thousands. They reminisce about Dee Dee Ramone's last performance ever at Club Makeup, talk about Hollywood's early 80's punk and goth scenes and much more. Learn more about your ad choices. Dee Dee Ramone and Johnny Thunders were not just musical contemporaries, but also good friends and using buddies during the New York City Lower East Side punk rock musical heyday of the late 1970s. At one point, Dee Dee gave Richard Hell of The Heartbreakers and later Voidoids his blessing to use a song he wrote that was meant to rival Lou Reed's Velvet Underground song "Heroin." Dee Dee's version was known as "Chinese Rocks." This song would go on to be the spark that would blow up a powderkeg between Thunders and Dee Dee. Frumess explains. Now this is a special one. In ep212 we have the honor of chatting with Hiawatha Bailey. Don't know the name? Well you will certainly know some of the people he has been involved with! From being a student revolutionary and member of the White Panther Party in the 60s with folks like John Sinclair and Wayne Kramer (MC5), he then went to prison, formed a band and played CBGBs and rubbed elbows with Blondie the Ramones etc. The stories are insane! From getting French kissed by Iggy to being taught self defense by Hilly Kristel, to vandalizing bikes with Dee Dee. It's all here. With music by Cult Heroes and Dee Dee Ramone & the Chinese Dragons.
CJ Ramone has mentioned in interviews that Brett Gurewitz of Epitaph Records and guitarist for Bad Religion wanted to sign the Ramones to the label. In the end, it didn't happen.
