Because she is the daughter of Ravi Shankar, perhaps the most famous Indian classical musician of the past century, Anoushka Shankar is associated with that style of music. But though she plays the sitar, and does indeed play Indian ragas in the style of her illustrious dad, she has also drawn on jazz, flamenco, various world and electronic music traditions, and more. Her new record, We Return To Love, is the conclusion of a trilogy of EPs. The masterful sitarist, film composer, and impassioned activist Anoushka Shankar presents the third chapter in her current trilogy of mini-albums, which explores her fascination with Goa Trance. Cos'è e come si organizza un festival psytrance? A raccontarlo a Federico di Vita nella trentaduesima puntata di Illuminismo psichedelico è Tommaso, uno degli organizzatori dell'Atlas, un festival di musica elettronica che ormai conta un certo numero di edizioni, finora svoltesi a Zeri, in provincia di Massa Carrara. Nell'organizzare un festival come questo bisogna tener conto della location – è importante stare attenti a non disturbare chi vive nei luoghi teatro della festa –, riuscire a coordinare la sicurezza e tutto ciò che serve per i soccorsi, dalla presenza delle ambulanze agli spot della riduzione del danno (presenze che rendono il luogo particolarmente sicuro per ogni partecipante), non dimenticando di rispettare una vera miriade di norme burocratiche spesso un bel po' anacronistiche. Tutto questo prima ancora di pensare all'allestimento dei palchi e alla lineup degli artisti presenti, senza contare il gran numero di attività culturali offerte ai partecipanti durante tutta la durata del festival.

How did you come to the "bass", to Techno once? A: Growing up in Tokyo in the 90`s when the rave boom came, we were exposed to all sorts of electronic music. From Techno, House, Ambient, Goa Trance, Electronic Rock, everything was just mixed up. Genres didn't matter at the time, good music was good music. The parties here would be a mix of different styles of dance music. From Techno, Goa Trance, Tribal live performances, many style were just mixed throughout the party. This mix takes a bit from these styles. Music that was just something new and influential to us. Q: From Japan to the world. What are your favorite places to play your music on the planet? A: Thats a tough question. We always find every place to be special. Each country, region, city have their own vibe and to us, it's all about this. Every place is a favorite to us! Q: Which future projects are on the way? What to expect in 2020? A: We just released our album from Tronic "Where We Start". We have a collab EP with Misstress Barbara coming up in April on Octopus Recordings and a remix work we worked on with Christian Smith for Tronic. We also had a chance to do some remix works. The Goa trance scene of the 90's was a very special thing to be part of.
