Joshua (Tomball) takes on Heather (Crosby) on Day 7 of The Suburb Summer Sizzler
For many years, I thought I had bladder endometriosis. But after two surgeries showed that I didn’t have endometriosis on the bladder (though I did elsewhere), I had to start asking questions. Why did I feel bladder pressure all the time? Why did my bladder burn when it was full and even after emptying? Why did it feel like my bladder was never empty? Why did I have to urinate 20 plus times a day? I had assumed that the bladder frequency and urgency I was experiencing was just down to endometriosis alone, but I was mistaken. Interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome is a condition that many people with endometriosis also have. In fact, it’s been dubbed by science as the ‘evil twin’ of endometriosis - and the symptoms are so similar, you can easily mistake one for the other, when in fact you have both. As a result, I treated my endometriosis for years, reducing my painful periods and other symptoms, but found my bladder pressure, frequency, urgency and burning pain just continued to get worse It’s only in the past three years after receiving my diagnosis, have I really started addressing how to treating my interstitial cystitis as well as endometriosis. So in this episode, I’m talking about the symptoms of painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis, what causes it, what can trigger flare ups and how to reduce symptoms with the interstitial cystitis diet and other options like pelvic floor therapy. I share my struggles, the things that have worked for me, what hasn’t and what I’d like to try in the future. And most importantly, I chat about how we can learn to manage painful bladder syndrome alongside endometriosis. Let's get social! Heather Crosby and Pastor Jimmy Parris bring a message to River Springs Church on 10-21-18.
Remember Heather? This genius creative was on the show when I first launched This EndoLife Podcast, talking about her diagnosis with interstitial cystitis and how changing her diet overhauled her health and allowed her to live again. Heather Crosby went on to found Yum Universe, and in more recent years, got so much into gluten free baking that she created the insanely good looking Gluten-Free Baking Academy. I've been eyeing up these recipes for a while... Gluten free English muffins, gluten free sourdough bread, gluten free wraps, gluten free bagels - BAGELS - gluten free cornbread, gluten free biscuits... It's aaaaall there. I know how tough the endometriosis diet is, and how cutting out carbs (read: bread), can be really, really hard. I miss toast like I missed my first ex-boyfriend, before I realised he was a dick. And to be honest, I have some go-to gluten free brands, but they're still not the same. Gluten free baking with The Gluten-Free Baking Academy is about understanding gluten free baking so you have the knowledge and foundations to make gluten free baked goods from scratch that work and taste amazing. Heather Crosby cuts out all the junk, and her recipes are all dairy and egg free. I chatted to Heather about how going gluten free changed her health, why she started the Gluten-Free Baking Academy and how you can go gluten free and create incredible gluten free recipes at home. Heather Crosby is the creator of Yum Universe, an incredible online resource full of recipes, meal plans and support for those looking to eat good, comforting food and increase their intake of plants. Heather's own struggles with health came to a climax when she was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, which is a chronic condition with no current effective treatment or cure, and so she turned to diet to help her manage the painful symptoms. Heather's health is now in an amazing place and she has just released her latest book, Pantry to Plate, which is all about cooking without recipes! We talk about the possibility of Heather having endometriosis, her challenges with her health and interstitial cystitis, how listening to her body completely transformed her attitude to her health and how she went from refusing to eat vegetables to drinking mushroom lattes!
With two episodes left in Season 1, we thought it would be fun to revisit our earliest episodes. So today, we went through everything we discussed in Episodes 2 through 11 — daily routines, movement vs. exercise, sleep, tarot, the way we eat, books, body image, meditation, guilty pleasures, and our interview with Heather Crosby — and how things have either changed completely, evolved, or stayed the same. Happiness and joy. Words we often use interchangeably that have very different implications in our lives. Words that also happen to be the basis for today's episode. We start off by asking each other how happiness and joy show up in our lives, move into what happens when they aren't there, what gets in the way of noticing or feeling those things, and also how we cultivate more of it in our lives. At the end of the day (and the episode), we both agree that life is less about seeking out fleeting moments of happiness, and more about looking around and finding the joy in the small everyday moments. We want to hear from you! How do you define (or differentiate between) happiness and joy? How do you bring more of it into your life? Come join the FB community to learn more nicoleculverblog.com/community Great quotes: I always come from a place of really listening to what people need. I'm listening. They ask me for things that i need. They may not specifically say I need meal plans but they're saying to me “I'm super busy I wish I could make healthier choices more often. I can interpret that, if I can create tools for them it will make life easier for them. Really listening is super important. I also believe that these layers change and evolve over a lifetime. I'm not here to judge or be the food police. I'm here to share ideas, connect, and grow. It's important that people feel heard. When you can give that to somebody, it's really powerful and it feels good for them and it feels good for you. It brings that true connection component back into what you're doing. Heather Crosby, founder and author of YumUniverise, is set to release her brand new cookbook Pantry to Plate next week, which specializes in formulas and blueprints instead of strict recipes. In today's episode, we sit down to Heather to discuss practical, plant-based cooking and how to find balance between healthy and convenient.
Heather Crosby, the creative mind behind Yum Universe, came to a major crossroads in her twenties. She was diagnosed with a chronic health condition that would require medication for the rest of her life. She could follow her doctor's orders and take a medication that had a 4-8% chance of fixing the problem, or she could listen to a voice deep inside that was screaming at her to make a change. Heather decided to listen to that voice deep within and take her health into her own hands. She began to change what she was putting into her body and focused on getting more vegetables into her diet. Slowly but surely, she began to feel better and, after consulting with doctors again, saw that the changes she was making had a direct impact on her health. She learned how to tune in and decipher the clues that her body was giving her. Somewhere along the way, she decided to share what she was learning and started a blog. Her mission was simple: to prove that healthy, plant-powered eating could be delicious and comforting. Intrigued? Tune in to today's episode where we dive deep into Heather's transformative health journey, the impetus for starting Yum Universe, what she's cooking up next, and how she continues to take care of herself now that she's got her diet under control. Topics Discussed: Heather's health journey How Yum Universe got started The evolution of Heather's diet The power of baby steps when making changes The connection between health and stress Trusting intuition when it comes to finding key to own health Power of community when it comes to making major dietary changes Focusing on the HOW Having fun with your food Gluten sensitivities and how they show up Locking in on circadian rhythms to improve health Systems and tools for staying balanced and maintaining health Sleep rituals Guilty Pleasures The launch of Heather's Gluten Free Baking Academy and Cookbook #2 What nourishment means to Heather Resource Links: Yum Universe Yum Universe on Instagram Morning Routines (Episode #2) Sleep (Episode #4) Guilty Pleasures (Episode # 10) Gluten Free Baking Academy Yum Universe Cookbook Wheat Belly by Michael Davis Chef’s Table Season 3 on Netflix Hit us up: Twitter: @nandfpodcast and #nandfpodcast Facebook: nourishandflourishpodcast Email: hello@nourishandflourish.us
Making time for a healthy lifestyle with Jeff Sanders and Heather Crosby.
When Heather Crosby found herself in poor health and, according to her doctors, destined to be on meds for the rest of her life, she decided to take her health into her own hands.
Heather Crosby is this week’s guest. Remember her? She was on the site earlier this week to give away her new cookbook (it’s so good!). Clearly, I’ve got a thing for Heather and her message. And maybe her spicy taco recipe too. After hearing this episode, you’ll understand why I dig her so much. Heather and […]
