Jill ‘Sixx' Gevargizian is the director of The Stylist that first showed up as a short, in the 2018 anthology, Watch If You Dare. It was co-written by Eric Havens, who is also co-writer on Call Girl, Jill's debut film and this year is the 10 year anniversary! Jill talks her secret to success and why she surrounds herself with people who are good at what they do and who are better at it than she is. It's been her version of film school. She points to her having a good network to source from when thinking about a project and that project's success. Knowing people like Laurence Harvey (from Human Centipede) who she met at a convention and Tristan Risk (from American Mary) who she met through working with the Soska Sisters, knowing the right people just made it easy to execute her movies. Jill brought her years of experience in her trade as a hairstylist in her film, The Stylist, to make it as realistic as possible. So she created the first hairstylist slasher flick! She talks about other amazing films and franchises that also got their starts as shorts like Saw and The Babadook. Jill's film career really began with the creation of Slaughter Movie House where weird indie horror shorts are shown. She is producing on a film doing festivals right now (as of Summer 2023) called Black Mold, so keep an eye out!! Check out the Texas Chainsaw Massacre documentary, The Legacy of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jill is also on that as a super fan and contributor! There are some secret projects coming up including one produced with Ed Sanchez (Blair Witch Project) and written by Adam Cesare (Clown in the Cornfield book), so keep an eye out! Who better to join Caitlin to cover 2020's The Stylist than Elizabeth, an actual stylist? We really love this one. Jill Sixx knocks it out of the park, and Najarra Townsend gives an arresting performance. We look at themes of isolation and identity, and explore one of the creepiest movies we've had in the last few years. We also look at the history of scalping, and we get some great questions. Keep those coming! Send all your questions to plugituppod@gmail.com.

PUBLIC VERSION. Known by many as “Jill Sixx,” filmmaker Jill Gervargizian (THE STYLIST) has one of the most relatable and encouraging career stories that aspiring artists could hope to hear. Much like the majority of up and coming filmmakers who listen to THE MOVIE CRYPT religiously, Jill doesn't live near Los Angeles or NYC… she didn't go to film school… and she had to hold down a “real” job (she worked as a hair stylist for 10 years) to make ends meet while simultaneously getting her career as a filmmaker started. She didn't have an industry connection to speak of or a wealthy family member/friend who could green-light her dream of making movies. (Sound like YOUR current circumstances?) However, after attending her first horror convention and realizing that “movies can also be made by real people,” Jill pulled together what little resources she had available and made her directorial debut with her short film CALL GIRL. Her short found success in some of the biggest film festivals and ultimately served as her calling card for the feature version - THE STYLIST (out now). From finding her own wonderful support system in the Kansas City community of cinephiles, genre fans, and aspiring artists… to making a positive impression on the various filmmakers and industry players she'd meet on the festival circuit simply by being herself and asking for nothing (as Adam states having first met Jill at FrightFest in London)… Jill's journey is a shining example of what Adam and Joe always say: “If we could find a way, so can you.” Dr. Arwen leads a group “Hollywood Therapy” session on the subject of crowd funding and Jill provides major inspiration through her story of staying grounded, working hard, and making things happen for herself as opposed to waiting for a lucky break, hoping for a door to magically open, or allowing Hollywood's seemingly impenetrable and extremely unfair system to allow her to feel like a victim. Get in the Halloween spirit by watching the 23rd ArieScope Halloween short film GHOST DOG (now playing on ArieScope.com and on the ArieScope YouTube channel), by watching one of Joe's TWO new CREEPSHOW episodes (now playing on AMC's SHUDDER), and by picking up the new HOLLISTON graphic novel (“Holliston Goes to Hell”) and the latest HATCHET comic book (“Victor Crowley's Halloween Tales 3”) wherever you buy comics or directly from ArieScope.com!
