Plug it Up is a horror movie podcast about the monstrous feminine. Host Caitlin Grant and her funny guests look at the monstrous feminine in all its forms, including: monstrous menstruation (like Carrie and Ginger Snaps), monstrous motherhood (like Rosemary’s Baby and The Omen), femmes fatales (like Jennifer’s Body and The Love Witch), black widows (like Dolores Claibore), body horror in women (like Teeth and Raw), treacherous friendships between women (like The Craft), women battling horrors (like You’re Next), and women who are themselves horrific (like Gone Girl). Although this show focuses on the experiences and portrayals of women in horror, it’s a gender inclusive space, and the discussion is open to people of all gender identities and presentations. It’s an explicitly intersectional feminist, trans-inclusive podcast for horror fans. Plug It Up is a Bloody Good Horror production.
The Plug It Up podcast is a fantastic addition to the horror genre podcast world. Hosted by Caitlin, who is also fantastic on Bloody Good Horror, this podcast offers excellent, funny, and insightful discussions about horror movies and their use of the menstruation trope. The chemistry between Caitlin and her co-host Elizabeth is excellent and their banter adds an enjoyable dynamic to the show.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the variety of voices that are brought in to discuss these vulnerable topics. The hosts do a great job of inviting different guests with unique perspectives to provide a well-rounded discussion. It's refreshing to hear women's experiences being put at the forefront when discussing horror films, as it offers a fresh and interesting take on these movies.
In addition, The Plug It Up podcast does an exceptional job of delving into deep dives and rethinking favorite movies or genres. The hosts provide insightful interpretations of horror tropes and challenge listeners' perspectives. This not only makes for thought-provoking content but also contributes to a more inclusive conversation surrounding horror films.
However, one aspect that could be improved is the frequency of appearances by Elizabeth. Listeners appreciate her contributions and chemistry with Caitlin, so having more episodes featuring her would be highly welcomed.
In conclusion, The Plug It Up podcast is an excellent concept executed brilliantly by knowledgeable host Caitlin. Its focus on discussing menstruation in horror films provides a refreshing perspective that isn't often explored in pop culture. With its insightful discussions, diverse voices, and inclusive approach, this podcast is a must-listen for any horror fan looking for a deeper analysis of their favorite movies.

This is a non-horror solo episode. Unless you count the trauma of growing up fat as horror (personally, I do). It's a weird and vulnerable episode where I talk about pretty privilege, thin privilege, and the frustration of wanting to reject beauty standards while feeling like you need to reach them in order to survive. It's a strange, dissonant space to exist in, but I hope it'll resonate with people like me. See my solo-sode on Body Horror for more content like this. Back to normal* horror movie reviews next time! *normal is relative
