In the fall of 1978, a thirty-one-year-old fur trapper named John flew his Piper Super Cub into a remote stretch of the Yukon Territory about a hundred and forty miles northeast of Dawson City to begin what he planned as a four-month trapping season. He had a solid cabin he'd built himself, a well-established trap line running forty-some miles through prime marten, lynx, beaver, and wolverine country, and enough experience in the northern bush to know that country about as well as any man alive. What he didn't have was any way of knowing that something else was already out there, and that it had already been watching him. Within days of his arrival John began finding enormous bipedal tracks pressed into the creek gravel and early snow, measuring over twenty inches long and more than eight inches wide at the heel, with a stride that a tall man at a full trot couldn't match. The tracks were only the beginning. Something started systematically clearing his traps, not randomly, but with a working knowledge of his entire line, springing sets from above with deliberate downward pressure and removing the catch without a trace. Then came the vocalizations, deep and structured sounds in the dark timber that had a quality John had no name for at the time, sounds that decades later would stop him cold when he heard the Sierra Sounds recordings made by Ron Morehead and Al Berry in the Sierra Nevada. That same organized, back-and-forth exchange. That same sense of language underneath something no human throat is built to produce. Then the rocks started. And then one of them put John face-down in the snow with a three-inch gash in the side of his head that he had to stitch himself, alone, a hundred and forty miles from the nearest town.John stayed because his family needed what that trap line could produce. He stayed through the night visits, through the sound of something breathing against his door in the dark, through the feeling of large hands running slowly along his log walls. He stayed until the night something hit his cabin with enough force to crack the chinking and move a ten-inch spruce log in its notch. He went outside with his Marlin 45/70 rifle and he shot it, and he followed the blood trail the next morning until the ground went too hard to hold sign. And when he came back from that blood trail he found both tundra tires on his Super Cub torn apart by hand. That's when he called his friend Byron. What happened the night Byron arrived is the kind of account that's hard to sit with, a coordinated assault on that cabin from multiple directions that lasted for hours, with John and Byron shooting through the walls and ceiling while something worked at the logs from outside trying to find a way in. They made it to morning. They packed their gear. They flew out and John never went back.He sold the cabin, went to work on a crab boat in the Bering Sea, and spent eleven years deciding that thirty-foot seas and a crab pot winch were considerably safer than whatever was in that Yukon timber. He's probably right.John listens to this show and to my other podcast Sasquatch Odyssey, and he says that hearing Fred from Alaska talk about the temperament of these animals in the northern bush is the closest he's come to feeling like someone else understands what he encountered. He wants people to know that what's out there in the deep country doesn't match the friendly-giant narrative, and he wants them to be careful. After everything he went through to deliver that message, the least we can do is pass it along.Have you experienced a Bigfoot sighting, Sasquatch encounter, Dogman experience, UFO sighting, or any unexplained cryptid or paranormal event deep in the woods? //The Wire//2300Z February 16, 2026////ROUTINE////BLUF: CONCERNS ARE GROWING FOR TWO CAPTURED AMERICAN PILOTS DETAINED IN WEST AFRICA. UNITED STATES SEIZES OIL TANKER IN INDIAN OCEAN.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Indian Ocean: Over the weekend the United States seized the M/T *VERONICA III*, one of the tankers which fled Venezuela in the wake of the fall of the Maduro government. The vessel was boarded and seized due to carrying oil in violation of American sanctions.West Africa: Concerns are growing concerning the safety of Two American pilots who were illegally detained by authorities in Guinea almost 6 weeks ago. On December 29th, Brad Schlenker and Fabio Espinal Nunez were piloting a private charter flight when they diverted to Guinea to refuel. They were given permission to land, and upon taxiing to the terminal, were greeted by armed soldiers. Both pilots have been detained since the incident.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: As of right now, the issue of the pilots in Guinea is still in the realm of diplomacy, as the families of the captives have been working with the Embassy to secure the pilots' release. Since this line of effort has not yielded any progress, the families have gone to the media with the hope that a media blitz will pressure the White House to speed along their release. All of this can probably be handled with a phone call, but just in case a more active response is called for, an understanding of the terrain might be helpful. So far, many details remain unknown as the initial circumstances of the detention are hard to verify. Flying for a regional charter airline in Africa is one of the most dangerous jobs a pilot can take, simply due to the corruption that is rampant throughout the continent. As such, it was an odd choice to choose to land in this country in particular, which has led many to assess that there is more to the story than meets the eye. The status of the original charter itself is also not known; some reports state that this flight was a ferry flight moving an aircraft that was recently sold (i.e. no passengers on board), whereas other reports state that they were flying a Brazilian family to Dubai. In any case, taking the story at face-value, the pilots diverted to Guinea for fuel and upon landing probably did not have enough cash on hand for the required bribes. Verbal permission to land is not good enough in Africa, and every stage along the way involves greasing palms, which always demand more. In this case, these pilots are currently serving as a bargaining chip, having chosen to land in Guinea at the worst possible time...during a state of military coup. General Mamadi Doumbouya is currently running the country after "winning" the election one day before these pilots landed. Doumbouya was the leader of the 2021 coup that overthrew the previous government, and over the past few years, the beleaguered nation has been host to the standard West African experience of poverty and violence while under military rule. Now that he's made his warlord status official, his government is probably looking to increase his standing. Nothing pads the ego of an African warlord quite like snatching a couple of Americans so as to get the attention of the United States (the mere dialog with the US alone will increase the legitimacy of his government). However, Doumbouya might find that his little stunt gets the wrong kind of attention from the United States if the pilots are not released immediately. Whatever the pilots did (if anything) to get detained is not a good enough excuse to avoid American involvement; the United States has proven over the past year that the US military will bomb a country back to the stone age for nothing more than a Klondike bar, so Doumbouya would be wise to correct this issue immediately. Every gold rush is followed by a hangover. That's been true throughout history. It happened during Tulip Mania from 1634-1637. There was a gold rush in railways in the 1830's in the UK and then later in the 1870's to the 1890's in the US and Canada. There was an actual gold rush in 1896-1899 in the Klondike region of the Yukon close to the border with Alaska. It happened with automobiles in the early 1900's. It happened in radio and then in TV, and then with the Internet. But seriously folks, this time it's different, this AI thing is here to stay and the projections for its impact on the economy are well quantified. There are an increasing number of tools that are showing maps of both existing and planned data centres. The limiting factor for new data center investments is often described as being infrastructure related. That means optical fibre, large supply of base load electricity, and in many cases, ample water supply to provide cooling. The latest tool is a new open source database on a map called The IM3 Open Source Data Center Atlas. It provides locations and facility footprints (when available) of existing and projected data centers across the United States (U.S.).-------------**Real Estate Espresso Podcast:** Spotify: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://open.spotify.com/show/3GvtwRmTq4r3es8cbw8jW0?si=c75ea506a6694ef1)   iTunes: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-real-estate-espresso-podcast/id1340482613)   Website: [www.victorjm.com](http://www.victorjm.com)   LinkedIn: [Victor Menasce](http://www.linkedin.com/in/vmenasce)   YouTube: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](http://www.youtube.com/@victorjmenasce6734)   Facebook: [www.facebook.com/realestateespresso](http://www.facebook.com/realestateespresso)   Email: [podcast@victorjm.com](mailto:podcast@victorjm.com)  **Y Street Capital:** Website: [www.ystreetcapital.com](http://www.ystreetcapital.com)   Facebook: [www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital](https://www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital)   Instagram: [@ystreetcapital](http://www.instagram.com/ystreetcapital)

Interview with Dylan Langille, VP Exploration of White Gold Corp. Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/white-gold-corp-tsxvwgo-23m-financing-funds-major-drill-program-at-yukon-gold-project-8485Recording date: 8th January 2026White Gold Corp is embarking on an aggressive expansion program under new exploration leadership, targeting significant growth of its 3-million-ounce gold resource across a vast 300,000-hectare land package in west-central Yukon. The junior explorer has recruited Dylan Langille, who brings proven discovery credentials from seven years at Kinross's Great Bear project, where he helped grow the resource from 5 million to 7 million ounces following the company's $1.8 billion acquisition. The company recently secured $23 million in financing to fund 25,000 to 30,000 meters of drilling in 2027—representing 30% of all historical drilling across its four flagship deposits. This program focuses exclusively on resource expansion rather than infill, with Langille emphasizing that "2026 is going to be focused strictly on growth." The strategy reflects management's assessment that demonstrating scale potential takes precedence at this stage, particularly given the limited drilling to date. Golden Saddle, which contains 2.1 million ounces, has only 60,000 meters of drilling, while Arc has been tested to just 120 meters vertical depth across a 1.5-kilometer strike length.A key near-term catalyst is the maiden preliminary economic assessment expected in the first half of 2027, driven by Golden Saddle's high-grade core containing 1.1 million ounces at 3 grams per ton and 700,000 ounces at 5 grams per ton. This exceptional grade is expected to support robust economics even before the planned resource expansion.White Gold also benefits from significant infrastructure developments in the district. Neighboring Fuerte Metals plans a production decision by 2027 at its Coffee deposit, including road construction through White Gold's property portfolio. This infrastructure fundamentally changes the economic equation for satellite discoveries, potentially enabling toll-milling arrangements that make smaller deposits economically viable. The company's systematic approach to district-scale consolidation positions it to unlock value in a historically productive but technically underexplored region that has produced over 25 million ounces of placer gold.View White Gold's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/white-gold-corpSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Why do we romanticize historical outlaws and con artists? It is difficult to write about Wild West outlaws because the myths surrounding them bear little resemblance to the truth. Jefferson Randolph “Soapy” Smith was one of those characters. Smith often donated money to good causes, but he earned that money by cheating and robbing people. When he relocated his criminal enterprise to Skagway, Alaska, during the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897, the citizens soon grew weary of his cons and threats. The animosity led to a confrontation and a shootout, and soon, Jefferson Smith's life ended, and the legend of Soapy Smith began. Sources Charles River Editors. Broadcasting from under the Hollywood sign in the middle of a rare Californian downpour, we follow the water straight into the gold. Starting with LA as a city built on pure imagination, we jump back to the original gold rushes that reshaped the map: California in 1849, the Australian fields, the Klondike, and the deep shafts of South Africa. We meet Johann Sutter and the prospector who accidentally ruined his carefully built New Helvetia, the pioneers who turned empty coasts into booming economies, and the engineers and chemists who turned raw gold into the backbone of the 19th-century gold standard, global trade, and the first great age of financialisation. More recently, we ask why is gold nudging $4,000 an ounce? Why are central banks loading up on bullion again? Is this a bet against the dollar, a sign of geopolitical jitters, or the start of a new monetary era as fiat money and the old globalisation order creak? From mudslides in Malibu to vaults in Fort Knox, this episode is all about gold, what it did to the world before, and what its new surge might be telling us now. Hosted on Acast. Interview with David D'Onofrio, CEO of White Gold Corp. Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/white-gold-corp-wgo-project-generator-finding-gold-in-the-yukon-3263Recording date: 11th November 2025White Gold Corp is developing one of Canada's most compelling gold stories in Yukon's historic Klondike district, where the company controls a massive 300,000-hectare land position - 15 to 30 times larger than typical junior exploration companies. Founded in 2016 by CEO David D'Onofrio, PowerOne Capital, and renowned explorer Shawn Ryan, the company has delineated a substantial 3 million ounce gold resource at its flagship Golden Saddle deposit, representing the highest-grade open-pit resource in the Yukon at 1.4 grams per ton.The project's most significant attribute is an ultra-high-grade core containing 700,000 ounces at 5 grams per ton with exceptional 92% metallurgical recoveries. This high-grade zone, identified through recent structural reinterpretation by Dylan Langille from Great Bear Resources' discovery team, positions the company for robust starter-pit economics with rapid payback potential. A Preliminary Economic Assessment targeted for the first half of 2026 will quantify these advantages and evaluate accelerated development scenarios.White Gold recently closed a $23 million financing that represents a capital inflection point, enabling a 25,000-meter drill program—nearly ten times larger than the company's historical 3,000-meter programs. This expanded budget allows simultaneous pursuit of multiple high-probability targets: extending the ultra-high-grade zone at depth, drilling newly identified parallel footwall zones, and returning to earlier discoveries for systematic expansion. Management considers 4 to 5 million ounces a "reasonable" target, with potential pathways to 7 to 10 million ounces if deposits connect at depth. The company benefits from strategic validation through Agnico Eagle's maintained 19% shareholding and the advancement of the neighboring Coffee project to production, which establishes clear permitting pathways and infrastructure benefits. With the Yukon jurisdiction regaining favor following recent major discoveries and resolution of regional concerns, White Gold offers investors leveraged exposure to rising gold prices in an underexplored Canadian frontier with major company backing and clear development catalysts ahead.Learn more: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/white-gold-corpSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

In this NBN episode, host Hollay Ghadery speaks with debut Toronto author Tim Welsh about his novel, Ley Lines, published by Guernica Editions, 2025.  Set in the waning days of the Klondike Gold Rush, Ley Lines begins in the mythical boom town of Sawdust City, Yukon Territory. Luckless prospector Steve Ladle has accepted an unusual job offer: accompany a local con artist to the unconquered top of a nearby mountain. What he finds there briefly upends the town's fading fortunes, attracting a crowd of gawkers and acolytes, while inadvertently setting in motion a series of events that brings about the town's ruin. In the aftermath, a ragtag group of characters is sent reeling across the Klondike, struggling to come to grips with a world that has been suddenly and unpredictably upturned. As they attempt to carve out a place for themselves, our protagonists reckon with the various personal, historical and supernatural forces that have brought them to this moment. A wildly inventive, psychedelic odyssey, Ley Lines flips the frontier narrative on its ear, and heralds the arrival of an exciting new voice in Canadian fiction. About Tim Welsh: Tim Welsh was born in Ithaca, New York and raised in Ottawa, Canada, where he completed an MA in English Language and Literature at Carleton University. He now lives in Toronto. Ley Lines is his first novel. About Hollay Ghadery: Hollay Ghadery is an Iranian-Canadian multi-genre writer living in Ontario on Anishinaabe land. Trapped in a horrifying cycle of death and resurrection, a man becomes the unwilling subject of a mad-mans twisted experiments. A tantalizing tale of science, survival, and the fight for freedom. A Thousand Deaths by Jack London. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.John Griffith Chaney, famously known as Jack London, was born in 1876. He was among the first American writers to achieve international fame and financial success through his work. At the age of 21, in 1897, London embarked on a journey to the Klondike during the Gold Rush, an experience that inspired some of his earliest and most successful stories. In 1899, Jack London was living in poverty, desperately submitting stories in the hope of earning one cent per word, the standard rate for fiction he had read about. When he finally sold a 4,000-word story, he was dismayed to receive only $5.00 for it. Reflecting on this moment, London later wrote, “I was finished—finished as only a very young, very sick, and very hungry young man could be … I would never write again.”However, that same day, he received a letter from the publisher of The Black Cat, responding to his submission of A Thousand Deaths. The publisher requested permission to cut the story in half and offered $40 if London agreed. London recalled, “It was the equivalent to twenty dollars per thousand, or double the minimum rate. And that is just precisely how and why I stayed by the writing game. Literally, and literarily, I was saved by The Black Cat short story.”The story that started it all can be found on page 33 of The Black Cat in May 1899, A Thousand Deaths by Jack London…Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, Don't believe in flying saucers?
