Also Johannes, was haben wir hier?

Was zeichnet Saw eigentlich aus?

It is directed and edited by Kevin Greutert and written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The film stars Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith reprising their roles from the previous films, with Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Renata Vaca, and Michael Beach. Set between the events of the first two films, John Kramer (Bell) travels to Mexico in hopes an experimental procedure may cure him. Before long, however, the operation is proven to be a scam, leading him to kidnap those responsible and subject them to his trademark death traps.Saw X was theatrically released by Lionsgate on September 29, 2023. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with many describing it as the strongest entry since the first film and praising Bell's performance.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

Gang, we have waited SO long to debrief about HBO's new “torture porn” show The Idol, starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd that is already the most talked about TV show of 2023, and since three episodes have passed we think we're finally ready to give our verdict. We get stuck into its grotesque flaws and surprisingly more promising moments, debating everything from whether Lily-Rose Depp is any good (and if her character Jocelyn could ever really be a viable pop star), to the allegations of “heavy sleaze” and its inescapably male gaze.  Plus, the new Black Mirror anthology has dropped on Netflix after a four year wait, and one episode in particular is highly relevant to us celeb culture nuts: 'Mazey Day', the one in which a vulnerable celebrity is stalked by paparazzi. No spoilers huns, instead we debate the ethics of photographing someone who has consented to becoming a public figure, and whether the paparazzi has evolved since its infamous heyday. Plus, a quick overview of episode one, Joan Is Awful, the most "vintage", deliciously "Black Mirror" of all of the new series. Finally, Ellie has a new boyfriend, and we get to meet him!  Enjoy the episode, please leave us a review on Spotify or Apple, or send us a DM @straightuppod on Insta. You've read this scenario before – invasion, torture, death and suffering – but never like this.  We talk about why home invasion is so singularly frightening, about the role of movies and lenses in our hyper-surveillant culture, we disagree on the current state of experimental fiction, and Michael gives perhaps the most startling answer yet to the question of where did the idea for this book come from… All that, plus my rantings on the morality of torture porn, some really geeky video game chat, heavy metal metaphors, and an afterword containing some important questions for the future of this show.  Enjoy! Anybody Home is published August 16th by CLASH booksOther books discussed in this episode include:The Shards (2023), by Bret Easton EllisHoarders (2021), by Kate DurbinFrank (2002), by R. M. Do you like scary movies? Yes, course you do – you're listening to a horror podcast.Okay, cliched horror quote asides – this week is something a little different for the show. It's been a minute since we've had some non-fiction, and how better to scratch that itch-for-facts than with a discussion of BRAINZZZZZ?Our guest is Nina Nesseth: scientist, researcher and author of Nightmare Fuel: The Science of Horror Films. It does what it says on the cover. Nina guides us through a century of horror cinema, looking at how we, as a species, react neurologically and physiologically to scenes of blood, violence and carnage. Think of it, perhaps, as a tour of the most haunted house of all, the human mind. We dissect everything – movies, culture, eyeballs (prepare yourself!), and the trailer for Rob Zombie's The Munsters. We also talk about communicating science in the new age of anti-rationality, how our brains can tell screens and real life apart, the best ever decade for horror, and we mock the phrase elevated horror in all the ways that stupid term deserves. Enjoy!Nightmare Fuel: The Science of Horror Films was published on July 19th by Tor NightfireOther books discussed in this episode include:Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers (2003), by Mary RoachFound Footage and The Appearance of Reality (2014), by Alexandra Heller-Nicholls Support Talking Scared on PatreonCome talk books on Twitter @talkscaredpod, on Instagram, or email direct to talkingscaredpod@gmail.com Support the show

George and Travis had never seen Saw. And they didn't think that pun was any good. Thank you for siding with Dan on that one. Will George be able to handle the first Torture Porn? Will Travis be surprised by the twist ending, even though he knows Tobin Bell is the killer? Will Dan be able to convince the guys WHY Seven seems less gratuitous than Saw? Tune in to find out! '1883,' or 'Macho Knots Landing," has some moments of greatness that are weighed down by a repetitive script, a narration that simply does not work, and a lead performance that has shades of Robert Urich in 'Lonesome Dove.'

"I want to play a game..." Anyone remotely plugged in to pop culture in the 2000s knows exactly who said that, and also knows whoever it's been said to is about to have a very unpleasant day. In this episode of Creeptastic we are slashing into the controversial subgenre of horror that puts utter brutality front and center: torture-horror, a.k.a. "torture porn." How and why does torture-horror as a form of entertainment even exist? What the hell is enjoyable about watching people being brutally tortured if you wouldn't actually enjoy torturing someone? Why do we like torture-horror, and what does that say about us? I tackle all these questions, go over some of the most influential torture-horror films, and share the grand history of torture-horror with you this week on Creeptastic!
