We talk about how to create the best jump scare and how to  leave the audience on the edge of their seats in a case scene! Brian Philip Davis is known for his work in genre cinema, with films showcased at prestigious festivals like Sundance, Tribeca, TIFF, SXSW, Frightfest, and Fantastic Fest. Recent projects include Damian Mc Carthy's Oddity, which won audience awards at SXSW and the Overlook Film Festival, as well as a Saturn Awards nomination for Best International Film. Upcoming projects include Hokum, another collaboration with Damian Mc Carthy (starring Adam Scott) to be released by NEON on May 1st, as well as The Incomer, a folk comedy (starring Domhnall Gleeson) written and directed by Louis Paxton premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2026. Additional titles include Bad Day for the Cut, Boys from County Hell, The Occupant, Here Before, The Devil's Doorway. Patrick Rea is a prolific, award-winning independent filmmaker recognized for his innovative storytelling and creative directing style in horror and suspense. His feature film, "Nailbiter", won Best Director and/or Best Feature Film awards in several film festivals in 2012, "Nailbiter" was released on May 28, 2013 through Lionsgate Home Entertainment on DVD/VOD, Redbox and Digital Downloads. It has since aired on FearNet, the Chiller Network and The Horror Channel in the UK.Rea's stylized short films have screened in over a hundred film festivals around the world. In the summer of 2008, Rea's short film "Woman's Intuition" won a Heartland Emmy Award. In 2009, Rea was co-director on the "Jake Johanssen, I Love You" comedy special, which aired on Showtime throughout 2010. Rea won his second Heartland Emmy Award with the short "Get Off My Porch". He has also been nominated for two Mid-America Emmy Awards.Other directorial efforts include the recent 6 part docu-series on Kansas City's Children's Mercy Hospital titled "Inside Pediatrics" narrated by Paul Rudd, which received a 2015 Mid-America Emmy Award. His 2010 short film "Do Not Disturb" was featured in the "The Invoking 2" which was released in the Redbox on Oct 6th, 2015 through Image Entertainment.Rea's latest horror feature "Arbor Demon" (formally "Enclosure") executive produced by Warren Ostergard and Marcel Sarmiento, and starring Fiona Dourif and Jake Busey had its World Premiere at FrightFest in the UK and was released on February 3rd, 2017 in North America through Gravitas Ventures and is currently available on platforms such as Redbox On Demand, Amazon, iTunes, Vudu.In 2017, Rea co-wrote 7 episodes for Seasons 3 and 4 of CBS's Daytime Emmy Winning show "The Inspectors". Break out the spyglass! It’s time to forecast what is coming in 2026 We’ve got 2025 in the rear view window, and Hollywood has determined to not just relegate horror movies into the fall/Halloween schedule. Springtime apparently is a good time to have a big fear injection. So, we had to get the word out on movies you can anticipate coming to a theater near you! Admittedly, we’re out a little late this year. But, I would suggest we are just in time! Surprisingly, there are a lot of horror movies that are being released in late March. It also happens to be the eve of when many of the big genre film festivals get rolling. Sundance has just completed. SXSW is right on us now. Overlook is around the corner. So is Panic Fest. With these festivals, it sets the table for what you all can expect to come out this year. It becomes a bit of a guessing game for those of us who attend these festivals to predict what films are going to be on the schedule. Horror has proven to be profitable in what used to be a dead period for box office. Already, both Iron Lung ($50 million on a $3 million budget) and Send Help ($92 Million) opened up strong in January, traditionally the dumping ground for cast-off studio films. With the tremendous profitability and critical response to last year’s crop of films, we will see what will become this year’s banner carrier. My guess? Scream 7. There isn’t a studio backed big prestige movie like Sinners or Weapons this year, but I could very easily see a Neve Campbell led Scream 7 into a $300 million earner, much like Final Destinations: Bloodline from last year. If Scream 7 lives up to its potential, it could fly past that number. I don’t think that the effect of last year’s horror boom will be felt until next year’s crop. The studios didn’t have enough time to understand the influence until the season largely wrapped in October, well after prduction had wrapped for most films getting released for 2026. A Good Year for Indie Films? The indie horror films are in abundance this year. SXSW has a huge roster of genre films. Overlook just announced their roster, and so has Panic Fest. Usually there is a lot of overlap, but not so much this year. That suggests a wide variety and a lot of options out there. An that’s not taking into account the large Summer and Fall festivals like Frightfest, Popcorn Frights, and Screamfest. As usual, there will be films that we didn’t see coming because they come with zero fanfare, but end up surprising us with original storytelling or raw savagery. Better yet… both! We always summarize what we did from the previous year, and I think we actually did pretty well in our selections for 2025. You can check out last year’s predictions HERE. STORY 2: Cobb OKs additional funding for South Cobb Library Expansion  This week, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners greenlit $500,000 in extra funding to expand the South Cobb Regional Library by 5,000 square feet. Commissioner Monique Sheffield, who’s been pushing for this since 2021, said the project will be a game-changer for the community. The library, which opened in 2006, is one of the busiest in the county—especially for computer use. The expansion will add a new community space, a bigger teen area, and a computer lab, addressing a critical need for internet access in the area. Other board approvals? Speed signs, road projects, and grants for workforce programs. STORY 3: Cobb opts to settle with Purdue Pharma, Sacklers and other opioid manufacturers   The Cobb County Board of Commissioners has signed off on three new opioid settlements, but not without some debate. The vote was 3-1, with Commissioner Keli Gambrill opposing and Erick Allen absent. The settlements include payouts from Purdue Pharma, the Sackler family, and eight other manufacturers, all tied to their role in fueling the opioid epidemic.
