Lawmakers look ahead to the Governor's State of the State Address. We get perspectives on both side of the aisle on COVID response, vaccine roll-out and other issues. Then, the federal partnership with corporate pharmacies to vaccine the state's most vulnerable is lagging. We hear from the AARP on the state's progress getting Mississippi's oldest residents protected. Plus, a new report ranks the risk factors for children and youth in all 82 counties.Segment 1:Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves will deliver his second State of the State Address today from the Capitol, and some lawmakers are sharing what they would like to hear from the state's chief executive. Vaccinating Mississippians for the coronavirus tops the list for many on both sides of the aisle, with education funding and criminal justice reform also points of concern for many legislators. MPB's Desare Frazier hears from Rep. Donnie Bell (R) and Sen. Angela Turner Ford (D)Segment 2:Earlier this month, Governor Tate Reeves expanded vaccine eligibility to Mississippians 65 and older citing the high-risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19. But many of the state's vaccine appointments are filling quickly and a federal partnership with Walgreens and CVS is under-performing. Kimberly Campbell is Mississippi's State Director of the AARP. She tells our Kobee Vance while the flow of supply is lacking, the effort to prioritize older residents is resonating with their members. Segment 3:A new state-wide report is assessing risk factors and protective factors for Mississippi's children and youth. The Risk and Reach report from the Children's Foundation of Mississippi identifies the needs of children and youth as well as the available opportunities in each of the state's 82 counties - giving each county a low to high risk score. According to the report, 14 counties are considered high risk. Linda Southward, executive director of the Children's Foundation of Mississippi, shares the purpose of the report and its findings. Someone You Should Know: Pilots Purtee, Christ and Hill

Pundit Review Radio

Bruce McQuain of QandO, a 28-year Army veteran, joined us for another edition of Someone You Should Know. This week Bruce told us two remarkable stories which involve Army aviators, in this case, attack pilots. One of the events, the first, involves Apache pilots. The second, the pilot of a Kiowa Warrior. The first incident happened last week, while the second occurred in 2006. In the first story, Bruce talked about Apache pilots Purtee and Christ, Upon landing, the co-pilot/gunner helped load the injured Soldier into the front seat of the Apache without any further injury to the Soldier. Despite the heavy small arms and surface-to-air fire in the area, the co-pilot/gunner strapped himself onto the right side of the aircraft and hunkered down on the small wing. The pilot then flew the three of them to Camp Ar Ramadi medical pad, where emergency medical personnel provided treatment. As for Lori Hill, Without hesitation, she risked her ship to draw the enemy fire away, simultaneously providing suppressive fire for the troops engaged with the enemy on the ground. While all of this was going on, a rocket-propelled grenade hit her ship, damaging the helicopter’s instrumentation. However, even with the damage sustained, instead of focusing on her predicament and aborting the mission, she again established communication with the ground forces and continued to provide them with aerial weapon support until the soldiers reached safety. As she finally was able to turn her attention to the aircraft, which she discovered was rapidly losing hydraulic power, the Kiowa was hit by machine-gun fire, and a round crashed into one of Hill’s ankles. Still, with a badly damaged aircraft and a painful and debilitating injury, she landed safely at Forward Operating Base Normandy, saving her crew and the aircraft. For her actions she was presented the Distinguished Flying Cross by Vice President Richard Cheney at Fort Campbell, Ky., on Oct. 16, 2006. Lori’s story is reminiscent of another recent Someone You Should Know, presented by Matt Burden of Blackfive, about Air Force Maj. Kimberly Campbell, aka Killer Chic. The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Thanks to Matt, Bruce is now on board and we are thrilled to have him as part of the program. What is Pundit Review Radio? Pundit Review Radio is where the old media meets the new. Matthew Currier Burden from Blackfive joined us once again for another special edition of Someone You Should Know. This week he told us the story of Air Force Maj. Kimberly Campbell, an incredibly brave and skilled pilot of an A-10 Warthog. Kimberly’s Distinguished Flying Cross citation reads in part, "Captain Campbell’s aviation prowess and coolness under pressure directly contributed to the successful completion of the critical mission and recovery of a valuable combat aircraft. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Captain Campbell reflect great credit upon herself and the United States Air Force." What is Pundit Review Radio?
