Why and What BusinessWHYYour WHY is your Purpose!Purpose: it is the meaning, the reason why something exists.Without Purpose, life, work, relationships, and goals have not meaning! Knowing your WHY will simplify the decisions you need to make.Purpose acts as a filter in your decision making“WHY are we doing the?” Purpose answers this question! Why are you starting a business? If you don't know the answer to this question, you might be doing it for the wrong reasons.Example: I am starting a business to make money! Money and profitability are just by products of a business. If you are doing it for this reason, it will only take you so far. As you grow, you will start sacrificing your morals and principles. Your customers and employees will be the ones to suffer in the long run. Because you will use them to make more money and greed will set in. You need a higher reason than just money. If you change your mind set to, I am starting a business to help my customers and grow my employees. Now you have a foundation to be successful. Change your focus from you to other and you will be able to grow by leaps and bounds. Don't forget about making money, it is just not your why!Now that you have your why let move to your what!WHATAsk yourself these 6 questions!1. What experience do I have?Ashley Hill, founder and CEO of College Prep Ready, says she started her business because she had personal success financing her college dream.“I researched the challenges that students and families are experiencing with paying for college to help me refine my core message and services,” she says. From her experience and research, she learned that there was a market for the knowledge she had to offer. With Americans in trillions of dollars of student loan debt, Hill understood the pain points of students and parents when navigating the college application and financial aid process. She took this understanding and converted into a business that assuaged the difficulties she had witnessed.Similarly, Victoria Garlick, CEO of event services matchmaking website Air Events Global, also believes in choosing a business based on experience and skill set. Hers is built off of a 20-year career in event planning.“When deciding on what type of business to start, I looked at my personal and professional history and what I could contribute as an event director,” says Garlick. 2. What am I passionate about?Another common recommendation entrepreneurs shared with us is to find and follow your passion. Nick Ehret, founder of Varieteas, is passionate about tea. So, he built a successful business by curating specialty teas for his monthly subscription boxes. He's a premium tea aficionado who knew he could transform his passion into a business. His advice to people when picking a business to start is to “[choose] something you are extremely passionate about because you will be working with it all day, every day.”Brian Davis, CEO of Spark Rental, subscribes to a Japanese concept called ikigai. It means “reason for being.” In this context, Davis says, a truly good business idea is at the intersection of four things: what you love doing, what you're good at, what you can be paid for, and what the world needs.3. What problem can I solve? We all know that necessity is the mother of invention but applying that knowledge to the business world hasn't always been the next step. An entrepreneur who converts that need to a business plan could swiftly become a successful business owner. As any consumer can tell you, problems and pain points abound in just about any industry. Finding out what these difficulties and inefficiencies are—and coming up with a business plan to fix them—is a sure-fire way to step out on the right business path.Take the dog bed company Big Barker, for example. This company generated $4.75 million in revenue in 2016. Eric Shannon, founder, and CEO, saw a glaring problem in the market for dog beds. “I started Big Barker because there was a huge problem that large dog owners had to deal with. They had to replace their dog beds once or twice a year because they weren't made well enough to support the weight of a big dog.”Shannon adjures would-be entrepreneurs to solve big problems: “The bigger problem you solve, the more potential your business has.”4. What is my lifestyle preference?Your business goal may or may not include revenues in the millions and employees in the thousands — and that's OK. Perhaps what's most important to you is choosing a business model that supports your ideal work-life balance.Antonella Pisani was a VP of global ecommerce for Fossil and held leadership roles at JCPenney, Guitar Center, and ProFlowers. But her primary interests were in travel and photography. Because she knew she would prefer mobility in order to pursue these interests, Pisani knew she needed a flexible business model that wouldn't require space or inventory. This was the impetus for creating her websites, Official Coupon Code and FACT Goods. These flexible, web-based businesses have allowed her to work from Antarctica, the Arctic, Bhutan, Morocco, and other countries.5. How much capital do I have access to?The lean startup wasn't a fad after all. In fact, the concept grew from one inevitable and enduring truth about starting a business -- people don't want to risk their life savings on a business idea they have yet to prove or make profitable.A great example of this fact is Robert Lomax, who founded an educational services firm, RSL Educational, based on needs he saw in his day job as a teacher. Not only did his teaching experience help him see gaps in the educational books market, but it also gave him the ability to keep his job and develop new products. Because he had a steady income as he founded his firm, Lomax was able to avoid taking on debt and minimize risk while he grew his business. And he wouldn't have done it any other way. According to Lomax, his approach is ideal because it allows you to “take your time and explore your ideas properly."6. What ideas can I test easily?Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg once said, “Move fast and break things. Unless you are breaking stuff, you are not moving fast enough.”In other words, your business idea should be something you can prove (or disprove) early on. If you've got no experience in the trucking industry, starting a logistics company would be costly to test out. Instead, think about the lower hanging fruit in industries that interest you.Marc Roche, co-founder at Annuities HQ, a Canadian online resource on retirement-planning products, suggests doing preliminary research with family and friends, and then move on to the Internet for some more digging.“Don't be afraid to try a have a few ideas in mind to ‘test drive' before you choose a direction,” Roche says. “Do some basic research online and get a feel for what idea will be worth the time and effort of developing into a business.” I am inviting you to check out my resources page. Personal development is super critical if you want to go to that next level in your life, and being aware of your natural and adaptive behaviors is totally game changing. Especially being aware of your adaptive behaviors as you usually express adaptive traits when you have to do something that you didn't necessarily plan for or it wasn't on your schedule. That's why in this episode we talked heavily about audibles. On the show today, long time extreme execution coaches, Coach Ash and Coach Ant reviewed the adaptive behaviors conversation from last week and added a few nuggets about audibles. Audibles is a last minute play call usually in football where, although the play was confirmed in the huddle, the play is changed at the line of scrimmage. In other words, the game of life throws things that you didn't plan for and the question is will you execute? There's a new play, can you execute it? Coach Ash mentioned how she had to adapt to leading a few accountability calls and she led them very well and on short notice, we also gave a shout out to Jamie for being a phenomenal grounds crew. We know her natural behavior is the High D, High I but this time she had to adapt to the C behavior in order to lead the call. That's when we talked heavy about adaptive behaviors that we experience day in and day out, although some people develop defense mechanisms when put in unknown situations, Coach Ash really played this audible well. It's pretty common to lose that excitement you had when the new year started. After a few weeks of the new year that goal you set becomes tiring, boring, and it just doesn't get completed. The harsh reality is that we fail to execute our new years goals because we do not plan some practical action steps to accomplish them, “big is just a bunch of smalls”. It's those habits and consistencies that when you reverse engineer, what was an intimidating feat becomes something you feel you can do. Setting goals and having a system to go about them is super critical to talk about. In today's show, Coach Ash and Coach Ant, extreme execution coaches talked about the Air Traffic Controller's preference for systems and structures. Too many of us are super excited during the new year and we set these awesome goals but unfortunately they never happen because we did not set practical action steps, and those big emotional goals we set at the start of the year eventually feel overwhelming. We have minor goals and major goals that we work really hard to accomplish but you can accomplish those goals much earlier with the assistance of an accountability partner. Accountability partners hold you to your word, and more so hold you to do the task that you said you were going to do. By the way, there is so much power in a community of accountability partners. Today on the show we welcomed Coach Ash as she has returned from her birthday vacation in Mexico and then we hit the ground running on the subject of accountability partners. There are some accountability partners that hold you to your word vs some partners who may let you go back on your word from time to time. We really dived in on the relationship that anyone can have with their accountability partner as we discussed behavioral styles so that you can match yourself with the right partner. Coach Ash and Coach Ant are both high I's on the assessment, in other words they are flight attendants so they needed to match themselves with a partner who can compliment or counter their limitations. Coach Ant also described his 3 years experience dialing in to the BU accountability calls, he mentioned how people would call you out if you went ghost on the call!!! Most people overlook the small victories of their life, there are so many fine details that you should be thankful for. When you start off your day, and brush your teeth, eat breakfast, and hop on an accountability call, check in with the family, all before your day really gets busy. Those things are all momentum and those are the small victories that we can definitely celebrate. Most of us wake up late because we hit the snooze, so we are going through the rest of the day reacting to our poor start, that's a disaster because we are then operating from our adaptive behavior. On today's show, Coach Ash and Coach Ant talked about the momentum that you feel when you achieve even the small wins. More people than I'd like to admit are confused between vision and sight, reflect on it and you'll notice vision and sight aren't the same. The late great Helen Keller has one of the greatest quotes of all time, "The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision." Helen Keller (1880 - 1968). Here Helen made a clear distinction between sight and vision, so in today's show we defined vision and then elaborated on why it's so critical for your life that you create a vision for yourself. On today's show, Coach Ash and Coach Ant chopped it up about you having your own vision for yourself, as opposed to living out the plan that society's norms sell you from childhood. Support member Peter Gachuki also shared a dope quote about vision that set the tone for the episode. Coach Ant dived right in and shared with us his experience as he was working in healthcare, and being a flight attendant it wasn't in his natural gifting so he mentioned how he grew into the position. The effect of this was that the education system is actually really misleading as a lot of folks blindly accept the rat race and the "american dream". We discussed the blue collar mentality and the false idea of retirement; folks postpone their desired lifestyle, but we know retirement is NEVER promised. We also shared our super dope mission statements because that keeps us on track on of our vision. And finally to wrap up the show we gave you steps to start the process of having a vision for yourself, by speaking on how to let go of doubts and fears you have so you can just reverse engineer your vision. A vision can be reverse engineered into practical action items, but first you have to get rid of fear and other peoples limitations. You don't need an approval / affirmation for your vision!! Show #657   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 1st December 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TRYEV.COM ! – crowdfunding on CrowdCube, gotta get to the target. Go to crowdcube.com and search TryEV.  8 days left, over 60% there. “Try EV aims to transform the car purchasing process, educate on owning an EV and ignite EV interest. Try EV promotes “electrify to buy”. It is a platform to enable customers to learn, compare, customise and experiment with EVs before making a final buying decision.”   Roadtrip…!   MARK COLE Listening to your latest show, you asked for sharing holiday EV travels, so here I am.  I drove my 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV from the Red Ball Garage in NYC to the Portofino Hotel and Marina in LA (traditional Cannon Ball Run style), in 78 hours 59 minutes total. While two Tesla model 3s have done it (MUCH) faster, I'm not aware of any non tesla evs to do such an accomplishment. Furthermore, on the last day, in 24 hours, I drove 1,033.6 miles or 1,667km, which I don't believe had been done in any other EV, other than Tesla.  This was possible due to the Electrify America charging network, which I prominently used.   Kevin Breslin In the US Thanksgiving holiday is very big travel because the days people are likely to leave/return are more likely the same. A very high % return Sunday/Monday many leave Wednesday night Thursday morning. Where for Christmas has a wider distribution of leaving/return. Schools will have last day on 12/20 til at least 1/2 and likely 1/6. I work near LAX and auto traffic is way up.   THIS TESLA MODEL S P85+ JUST PASSED ONE MILLION KILOMETERS ON ODOMETER "Last July 15, we told you about a very special Tesla Model S P85+. It had just broken the 900,000 km (559,350 miles) barrier. The owner, Hansjörg Eberhard von Gemmingen, expected to break the one million km mark this year, and he actually did it this November 28. With the presence of the Guinness Book of Records to document that in Hornberg, Germany." reports InsideEVs: " He bought this Model S in 2014. It was a used car, already with 30,000 km in the odometer. His new owner drives a lot, so the car’s mileage kept growing and that started to attract people’s attention. Now that it reached the magic number with the Guinness Book of Records to certify that, Von Gemmingen wants to keep his car. His next goals are one million mi (1.6 million km) and two million km with his Model S P85+. He also has a Roadster, currently with 633,599 km."   https://insideevs.com/news/385016/tesla-model-s-one-million-km/   SONO MOTORS EVOLVES RADICALLY NEW FINANCING STRATEGY The Munich-based German startup Sono Motors has just radically changed its financing strategy. Instead of relying on strategic investors, Sono will now increase its focus on crowdfunding. The production date of the Sion is also shifting significantly." says electrive: "In the crowdfunding campaign that is being launched today, the company wants to have 50 million euros raised by December 30, 2019. This suggests that short-term financial requirements are high. According to a Sono Motors press release, this means that 2,000 vehicle reservations have to be made within four weeks. When inquiring further, the company spokeswoman explained that those making reservations will only be required to make reservation payments if the campaign goal is achieved. Whoever now decides that they want to own a Sion solar car will have to wait for some time before they receive their electric vehicle. The production start for the first vehicles has been delayed until September 2021 – since the new strategy is based on being able to “obtain access to new financial resources,” Sono Motors explains in their press release."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/12/01/sono-motors-evolves-radically-new-financing-strategy/   CITROEN C4 CACTUS SUCCESSOR TO GET BATTERY POWER "Citroen will add a full-electric version of the C4 Cactus successor when the compact hatchback is renewed next year, CEO Linda Jackson said. The battery-powered variant of the C4 Cactus replacement will be Citroen's first mass-market EV." writes Automotive News Europe: "Starting next year every new Citroen will have plug-in hybrid or full EV versions, depending on the platform, as well as gasoline versions, Jackson said. There will also be diesel versions for as long as there is enough demand for diesels, she said."   https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/citroen-c4-cactus-successor-get-battery-power   RENAULT RECEIVED OVER 6,000 ORDERS FOR NEW ZOE IN OCTOBER "The new generation of Renault ZOE seems to be in high demand as tFe rench manufacturer received some 6,100 orders in the month of October. According to Emmanuel Bouvier, Commercial Director, Electric Vehicles Business Unit, the pace of sales continued in November. The most orders come from France, Norway and Germany (currently order books are open only in part of Europe)."according to InsideEVs: "At 6,000+ sales per month (if continued), Renault ZOE might be able to exceed 70,000 sales per year, compared to the expected record of 45,000-50,000 in 2019. Other interesting findings are that a third of orders are for the new R135 drive unit nd that more than half is for the two top trim levels (Intens and Editions One). First deliveries of the new ZOE in France are expected in a few days, in early December."   https://insideevs.com/news/385290/renault-over-6000-orders-new-zoe-october/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK ANSWERS   eb1888  • 4 days ago The window breakage won't have an impact on ev adaption. The Cybertruck launch will in a very positive way. It's better in every aspect even without the electric powertrain.   Ashley Hill  • 3 days ago It took 1 week for my wife to convert from "Hell no" to "lets order" for the cybertruck.  all that extra press means there was heaps of additional images and videos and became the new normal. but we do have to get a black one.   Victor Wood  • 4 days ago I wouldn’t call the cybertruck launch as bodged. The broken glass should be regarded more positively. I doubt any non armoured vehicle would have stood up to a heavy steel ball being thrown at the window from close range.   Comeonuseyourbrain  • 5 days ago (edited) The cybertruck mishap with the glass was the biggest prank of the year. Franz and Elon played the big oil media like a fiddle. I didnt believe it at first but them I watched the video again and again. I watched Franz closely and if you do that you will see that his body does not react to the mishap at all. There is absolutely no sign of suprise. Non. He throws the steel ball  casually at the window and he reacts as if he had tried to throw a basketball into the basket and missed. Then he doubles down and asks should I try aggain? And all the time he is just smiling. You cannot control your body. If you are really suprised your body will show that. The only way that there is no tension and no shock in Franz's face is that he knew what would happen. I had a light bulb moment when I came to work on Monday. People who really hate Tesla came to me full of joy asking if I say the huge fail. And then I had my first suspicion. I watched the video again and now it is clear to me. The whole goal of marketing is to make as many people as possible see your product. How they come to see it doesn't matter.     Tony S  • 5 days ago (edited) It will help, it’ll drive the non Tesla-fanatic buyers to explore other BEV makers in the market now and in the near future. It may encourage other companies to consider adding pickup Trucks to their portfolio of BEV     Frederick Stirnkorb  • 5 days ago Any publicity is good publicity.   Steven Bollinger  • 5 days ago (edited) Question of the Week: the Cybertruck -- nobody cares about the smashed windows, they're looking at the truck and going over the specs. Big plus so far. The actual launch event was handled pretty badly, but it doesn't seem to matter.   RAJEEV NARAYAN Despite the glass shattering during the cybertruck reveal and it's polarizing design, I think that overall it will help the greater cause of EV adoption. Tesla, and Rivian, entering the pickup truck segment has spurred GM and Ford to do so as well, this is a good thing. Also, I have met several people who were previously lukewarm about EVs in general, strongly considering the Cybertruck. Perhaps they will buy one, or perhaps they will buy a more normal looking electric truck from Rivian,  Ford or GM... either way, it's good for EVs.   STEVE JOHN I believe that the old saying of "There is no such thing as bad publicity" is good for this one - The CyberTruck story made mainstream news, therefore more people got to see and hear about it, the curious ones would read further and seen that "new" (ok its not available yet) EV's can cost 40 thousand (pounds/dollars/euros) and are good for 500 miles on one charge, showing prices coming down and range going up.. If it gets people in offices and bars talking about it, then these extra details will start to remove some of the myths and FUD around EV's. Really looking forward to 2020 when some of the talked about models finally make it into showrooms and on to the roads. I have a reservation for a Polestar 2, so hopefully I will be driving my own soon. Thanks for great work you do on the podcast.   GRANTON SMITH I think that the Cybertruck going viral has absolutely helped - it's the way everyone finds out more about Tesla's lineup. Do I think the window smashed on purpose?

The battery pack has an energy density of 170 Wh/kg, which puts it on pair with the Tesla Model 3 (estimated at 168 Wh/kg)."   https://pushevs.com/2019/08/24/nio-delivered-673-es6-in-july/   SHELL INSTALLS FIRST ABB EV FAST CHARGER IN SINGAPORE "Shell subsidiary Greenlots has installed an ABB DC fast charger in Singapore, the first of 10 to be installed at Shell stations in the country over the next few months." says CHargedEVs magazine: "Greenlots CEO Brett Hauser said, “Greenlots and Shell have been exploring synergies since we were acquired earlier this year. This project demonstrates our collective commitment to enable electrified transportation around the world, specifically in Singapore, where Greenlots was founded, and bolsters Greenlots’s expansion in Southeast Asia. Supporting Shell’s EV charging network in Singapore is a logical extension of the work we’ve been doing there to provide charging solutions at home, at work, for fleets and on-the-go.”   However those chargers are just 50kW.   https://chargedevs.com/newswire/shells-greenlots-installs-first-abb-ev-fast-charger-in-singapore/   TESLA’S SUPERCHARGER NETWORK DELIVERS INCREDIBLE 72 GWH OF ELECTRICITY IN A MONTH "Tesla has released a rare statistic about its Supercharger network. The automaker says that its fast-charging network delivered 72 GWh of electricity in just a month." says Fred at Electrek: "In 2014, about two years after the Supercharger network launched, Tesla had only delivered 10 GWh and could deliver about 72 MWh in a day. Over the last year, the Tesla Supercharger network has grown a lot, and the automaker now says that it can deliver 72 GWh in just a month."   https://electrek.co/2019/08/25/tesla-supercharger-delivered-incredible-72-gwh-electricity-month/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK ANSWERS MSHunter • 4 hours ago Charge by minute makes sense for rapid chargers as it encourages people to not use them if they can't use the full available speed that the DC charger can provide. Though a few ac chargers should be available at all CCS /chademo charging locations for hybrid and ac fast charging vehicles   Hitstirrer • 9 hours ago On the subject of the supply of electrons at public access stations, it's clear to me that all supply should be charged by the number of kWh's delivered. And for access and payment to be by contactless bank card as the default method. If the app fans insist on messing around more then by all means pander to their fetish as an additional system. But under no circumstances should more rational people be forced to jump through those kinds of hoops.   alan baker • 1 day ago (edited) Agree with the comment of prices on Electric charge ( electric supply) points they should display the price per KW, and also enable payment by a standard bank RFID card. Just like a petrol pump. BP are doing this at the charge points at their petrol stations.   Mark Fitzpatrick • 2 days ago I like charging by kwh but in ohio usa they charge by minute.  25 to 35 cents for dc charging.  Thats right chademo is going no were and doesnt have too. I have no proplem with our combined chargers we have . CCS/chademo. 500,000 plus people driving leafs. We cant just go to nissan and get a ccs port installed.  I love that they are installing 200 new 100 kwh dc chargers. The new leaf plus can take up too 100 kw.   Stefan Weilhartner • 2 days ago no, i don't agree with only paying for the kWh on a charging station. you have to consider that a charging station is expensive and therefor if someone parks it's car on it without charging you block the company that owns it from getting back the investment. an it is important that the company that makes these charging stations get back the investment as soon as possible to have fresh money to build more and better charging stations! so everyone who parks on a charging spot, having an EV or not, charging or not has to pay the same amount of money per minute. and of course it should be expensive to park there so that no one blocks this spot. maybe around 5-10 euro per hour. on the other side the kWh then could be cheap - practically just forwarding the costs without benefit for the energy. that would encourage the users from that spot to NOT block tha   ateeqn1985 • 3 days ago Question of the week.. Although charging by kWh is more transparent, I wouldn't categorically rule out other approaches particularly on rapids., ie. To avoid PHEVs blocking rapids, BEVs  charging >90% on rapid.   My home electricity bill comprises of a usage part and a fixed daily rate....not simply usage   Ashley Hill • 4 days ago (edited) QOTW: disagree.  The ongoing cost for a parking space is significant and some spaces are vastly more expensive to have an maintain due to security, multi level buildings etc. As an example, we are having an issue here in Australia (Wollongong from memory) where Tesla is only leasing two of the parking spaces at a supercharger location and the other ones (4?)  have general parking even though there are fitted with superchargers.     JOHN JOSEPH In many States in the US, EV charging stations are NOT allowed to charge by the KWH by the State Government.  Only electric utilities are allowed to sell electricity by the KWH. My actual experience on Tesla superchargers shows that it is currently cheaper on the Tesla superchargers that charge by the minute. Use A better route Planner and you will see, for example, that Ohio which is by the minute is cheaper than West Virginia, which is by the KWH on an interstate trip.     CHARLIE FOX Thinking about the question of the week. I totally agree with paying for what an EV 'downloads' into the car. However, electricity pricing changes at different times of the day and seasonally. Those changes could literally mean that the location you are getting the power from needs to do essentially instantaneous pricing. I would imagine you need to observe the pricing as you charge with the idea that you might stop the charging (or automatically) if the price is going to shoot up for the electricity. People may not like this aspect unless an app makes it easy.   MARKUS LAFER Hi Martyn, There are too many single phase charging cars out there blocking charging ports if they pay only for kWh. Pay per time will push drivers to unplug after reaching 80%.  By the way: is the unplugsticker.eu service known in UK too allowing to contact the owner anonymous and ask for releasing  the charging port?   WALTER MACVANE To understand why EV charging networks charge by the minute, you have to understand the background. In many jurisdictions there is only one Identity Who legally can sell electricity due to utility regulation. So in order to Deliver the energy required, they need to sell the service through infrastructure utilization. Whether that is a fee for parking or a fee for usage, as long as they are not directly selling Electricity. Some providers, in order to recuperate Energy costs, will charge higher rates for higher throughput. So the question of the week should be reworded as: “ should governments change regulations so that energy can be sold directly to consumers by charging networks?”   EDUARD PERTINEZ 85% of petrol price in gas stations is pure petrol reselling, but then you are charged by many other things, such as convinience, service, servicing speed (amount of free pumps available), customer loyalty and many others. That other variables can amount to 7% to 30% of total cost of refuelling, so it means that some stations charge you 4 times more for the same gas. Quantity and time are simply constant one to the other in gas refuelling.   QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week.   Asking current EV drivers, how often do you charge and why?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 244 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Show #450   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 21st April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Welcome to a new Patreon EXECUTIVE PRODUCER SARI KANGASOJA. Hi Sari!!   TESLA TAKES SHORT SELLER TO COURT, SAYING HE MENACED ITS WORKERS "Elon Musk’s war with Tesla Inc. short sellers just got weirder. The electric carmaker claims a California man who it says is part of an online group of short sellers has been stalking its Fremont factory and harassing its employees -- including dangerously swerving his car toward a Tesla Model 3 that was on a freeway test drive and injuring a Tesla security guard in a hit-and-run on company property." reports Bloomberg: "Tesla persuaded a state court judge on Friday to issue a temporary restraining order requiring the man to stay at least 100 yards away from its factory and employees."   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-21/tesla-takes-short-seller-to-court-saying-he-menaced-its-workers   TESLA PUTS NEW MODEL 3 INVENTORY ONLINE FOR BROWSING AND ‘IMMEDIATE’ DELIVERY "Instead of picking options and waiting a few weeks for delivery of a custom-configured Tesla, buyers can now browse Tesla’s inventory of new Model 3s online and find cars available for immediate delivery (within a few days)." says Electrek today: "Until today, this was only available for Model S and X. There still aren’t any used cars listed for Model 3, but Tesla’s new inventory is accessible for anyone to browse online. Also cars are only appearing in some geos like California."   https://electrek.co/2019/04/20/tesla-model-3-new-inventory-immediate-delivery/   BYD DEBUTS E-SEED GT CONCEPT, SONG PRO AND E SERIES AT AUTO SHANGHAI At the Auto Shanghai 2019, BYD has unveiled its E-SEED GT concept car and Song Pro SUV alongside its all-new e-series models on April 16 at the 18th International Automobile Industry Exhibition. The company also showcased its latest Dynasty series of vehicles, which were recently unveiled at the company’s spring product launch in Beijing. A total of 23 new car models were exhibited at the event, held at Shanghai’s National Convention and Exhibition Center, fully demonstrating the BYD New Architecture (BNA) design, the 3rd generation of Dual Mode technology, plus the world-leading e-platform framework.   IN MARCH 2019 JAGUAR SOLD OVER 2,000 I-PACE "Jaguar I-PACE sales reported by the manufacturer increased in March to a near-record level of 2,044, which turns out to be 8.4% of total volume for the brand globally." according to InsideEVs.com: "Hopefully, the output will continue to increase or at least stay above 2,000 per month."   https://insideevs.com/march-2019-jaguar-sold-2000-i-pace/   THIS CLASSIC FORD BRONCO IS FULLY ELECTRIC AND TO DIE FOR "Zero Labs Automotive is showing off its plan to build an electric version of the original Ford Bronco. More than just slapping an electric motor under the hood and pushing them out the door, this project also gives the off-roader modern luxury with things like real wood interior panels and digital instruments. The company plans to build an initial run of 150 of them and reservations are open now." writes Chris Bruce for Motor1.com: "Zero Labs Automotive Bronco electric restomod has a claimed 360-horsepower (269-kilowatt) output. A 70-kilowatt-hour battery allows for a 190-mile (306-kilometer) range. The motor runs through a five-speed manual transmission, which seems like an odd choice considering most electric vehicles use just a single speed.   https://www.motor1.com/news/345513/ford-bronco-ev-conversion/   ALEXANDER FRANK Yes, I’d love my Model 3 making money for me while I’m not using it, which is actually most of the week while I’m working (Monday – Friday). I can’t park at my work, that’s why I’m taking my electric scooter or my  Renault Twizy (or soon VanMoof electric bike). I’d only add it to the Tesla Network after I’d feel comfortable watching Netflix while being driven by the car though. I love the cabin facing camera, gives me some ease. My day would then look like this: I’d unplug my Tesla Model 3 from my 11kw home charger, it’d drive me to work while I listen to your podcasts, once in the city at my work there’s no need to park, it would go about earning money. An hour or so before I want to leave work I’d press a button on the app and the car would wait for me outside to take me back home. LOVE IT!   RAJEEV NARAYAN I may not be ready to use my primary EV as an automated taxi, as if something happened to it I would be without a car. If, however when it came time to buy a new EV, I would be wiling to get the old one be an automated taxi, instead of simply trading it in. I imagine a future where a network of privately and company owned EVs run by Uber, Lyft or even Tesla act as automated Taxis, and the ride sharing company pays you a fee to use your car. This would allow the owner to make a little extra income, while reducing capital costs to the taxi company.   JOHN FRUHWIRTH No, I will not hire my Tesla out. It is my dream car, I am emotionally attached to it and can't see myself treating it as a utility vehicle to make money for me.   MARK RICHARDS I park in a garage, so it isn’t practical to make my car available in a car share network.  I don’t live in a city, in fact I am on the very edge of “civilization”, so I don’t think there would be much demand out here.   Robyn Edwards Perth Western Australia NO..  I am receiving my Kona in 2.5 hours.... I will feel edgy if my partner drives it! A complete stranger? Never. I share pool vehicles at work, I see how they are treated and that is a closed group!   KARL CRAMER I once drove for a ride sharing service and people would do disrespectful things to my car while I was still in it driving them, like leaving garbage or scratching at the roof fabric. I can't imagine what jerks would do if there was no one. I'll definitely use the service but I'm not going to sacrifice MY car to the horde.   NEIL I don't think I would let my car be used, not because I would worry about it,but because I would worry about how it got charged. With a model 3 I would use about 40% of the battery for the daily commute. With another 40% for saving the battery life and cold weather allowance that would only leave 20% for that taxi service. I would want to see automatic charging stations like the Tesla snake they showed a few years ago before I would think of reconsidering.   ASHLEY HILL depending on the options I'm considering it though is a few other things that make it easily worthwhile; like if was part of a Co-Operative (say a US$2000 deposit buy in) and if someone did cause troubles with it fleet would be large enough that I would have access to another one while fixes got underway. Would also do if remote operation instead of full self driving was on the table for same deal; would let someone remote drive it to another driver similar to current car next door /car share service; especially if the Tesla implemented an always on "near-impossible to crash" feature.     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Keep your comments coming in on email and YouTube…   What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard about EVs?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 216 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Show #431   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 31st March 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Hello to MIA OPPELSTRUP who sent me a note to say she’s happy to be an EXECUTIVE PRODUCER of the podcast.   HOUSEKEEPING – UPDATE ON THE MINI ELECTRIC FROM PETER GLASS “I can assure everyone the Mini EV will be built in Cowley. Our EV group booked a tour for 15 of us last week to go around the BMW Mini Oxford plant. It's quite amazing in particular the first construction hall welding the steel pressings together called "Body In White", making 3 body shell types. This is a £500million recent investment with over a thousand £150k robots [work that out] and it's clearly going nowhere soon. The philosophy there is 'cell manufacture' not linear production line [final assembly is done in long lines] with separate cages of clusters of robots. While we weren't allowed anywhere near it, they were building the construction cells for the variation required in the Mini Cooper body, mainly the floorplate, to hold the batteries in a "T" under the back seat and former transmission tunnel.”   GERMAN CITY OF STUTTGART BANS OLDER DIESEL VEHICLES FROM APRIL 1 "A ban on older diesel vehicles in the German city of Stuttgart will take effect on April 1 and will include car owners who live in the city, the city said on Thursday, following a local court ruling last year." Reports Reuters this week. "The city said it would ban vehicles with engines conforming to the Euro 4 emissions standard from driving or parking in the city unless they are given an exception. Vehicles with engines conforming to the Euro 5 emissions standard will not be affected at the moment but a decision on whether to ban will be made after examining emissions results in mid-2019, the city said." As Kyle Hyatt points out though, Euro standards mean little to those listeners I have in the U.S.: "Essentially the Euro 4 ban encompasses all diesel passenger cars registered from December of 2010 and earlier. Euro 5a began in January of 2011 and Euro 5b ended in December of 2013."   https://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-emissions-stuttgart/german-city-of-stuttgart-bans-older-diesel-vehicles-from-april-1-idUSKCN1R91P8   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/stuttgart-germany-diesel-car-ban-april-1/   NEW TOP GEAR MAGAZINE OUT NOW: ELECTRIC SPECIAL "Electric cars are no longer the ‘future of motoring’ – they’re already part of the mainstream. And what better way to prove that than with a features run solely devoted to the EV. So, in this month’s Top Gear magazine - out now - we take an in-depth look at two cars trying to make battery power cool. At one end of the spectrum there’s the retro-looking Honda E Prototype – a little city car with boxy styling and six screens in its interior. Then there’s the Pininfarina Battista. A 1,900bhp electric hypercar from the famous Italian design house, and further proof that speed-freaks will be catered for in the EV world. We also ask our man Paul Horrell to answer four of the biggest questions surrounding ownership of electric cars. How green are they really? Where will all of the electricity come from? Can I have one if I live in a flat? Find out the answers in the new issue."   https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/new-top-gear-magazine-out-now-electric-special   BMW i3 SUCCESSOR SET TO BE MUCH CHEAPER "Aside from being BMW's first all-electric model, the i3 was special due to its carbon fiber construction something usually associated with high dollar sports cars not small city carse. Building the i3 with so much carbon fiber seemed like a great idea for weight saving but it caused production issues for BMW early in the car's life cycle. Carbon fiber is also expensive to produce, which contributes to the i3's high price." Reports CarBuzz.com: "If BMW does build a second generation, it will likely rely on more conventional lightweight materials like steel and aluminum. We know BMW plans to release 12 new electric models by 2025, so it will be interesting to see if a next-generation i3 makes the cut. Manager Magazine says BMW could use the 'i2' name, likely signifying that it will be cheaper than the current i3. The i2 could arrive in 2024 with a starting price of around 30,000 euros (approximately $33,821)."   https://carbuzz.com/news/bmw-i3-successor-set-to-be-much-cheaper   THESE USED ELECTRIC CARS ARE INCREASING IN VALUE As electric cars begin to become more and more prominent in the automotive world, the demand for small electric cars on the used market is increasing." Reports Dominik Wilde for Motor1.com UK: "Some models are even increasing in value according to the experts at automotive data company cap hpi, which says that some owners could even buy an electric car, run it for 12 months and still sell it on for a profit." Top 3 - Nissan Leaf, Renault ZOE and Mitsubishi I-MIEV   https://uk.motor1.com/news/315464/secondhand-evs-increasing-in-value/   LARGEST TESLA BATTERY STORAGE INSTALLATION IN ASIA FOR JAPANESE RAILWAY "Tesla has completed its largest battery storage installation in Asia in Osaka, Japan. The 4.2 MW / 7 MWh facility uses 42 Tesla Powerpack battery storage units, which were installed in just 2 days following their arrival onsite." Says CleanTechnica today: "The customer is Kintetsu Railway, whose electrified trains operate on 500 km (311 miles) of track. Many of those tracks pass through tunnels which can hamper rescue efforts if there is a power outage. The Tesla batteries can provide enough electricity for stranded trains to operate for up to 30 minutes — enough for them to exit those tunnels and perhaps reach the nearest station, according to ArsTechnica." "A report by Bloomberg New Energy Finance dated March 27 says, “the benchmark levelized cost of electricity for lithium-ion batteries has fallen 35% to $187 per megawatt-hour since the first half of 2018.” BNEF analyst Elena Giannakopoulou adds this insight: “Looking back over this decade, there have been staggering improvements in the cost-competitiveness of these low-carbon options, thanks to technology innovation, economies of scale, stiff price competition and manufacturing experience.”"   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/03/29/largest-tesla-battery-storage-installation-in-asia-for-japanese-railway/     NEW YORK CITY ORDERED 15 NEW FLYER XCELSIOR CHARGE ELECTRIC BUSES com says "The New York City Transit will expand its electric bus fleet by 15 low floor 60-foot Xcelsior CHARGE from New Flyer. The latest order – the biggest for articulated Xcelsior CHARGE buses so far –  includes also 16 150 kW Siemens DC fast chargers. The New Flyer’s buses are powered by XALT Energy batteries."   "“The order supports NYCT’s efforts to develop a cleaner, greener public transportation footprint, which focuses on building greater environmental sustainability, reducing emissions, and modernizing the MTA’s bus fleet. Each bus will leverage New Flyer’s CONNECT 360™ business analytics and reporting tool to optimize performance and operations.” “The 60-foot New Flyer Xcelsior CHARGE™ buses feature long-range, heavy-duty lithium-ion batteries. New Flyer batteries are designed specifically for rigorous 24/7/365 transit demands of New York City, utilizing American-based battery technology and American-based manufacturing supplied by XALT Energy. The award includes New Flyer providing sixteen (16) Siemens 150 kW direct current interoperable chargers with installation, testing and commissioning to be performed by the recently announced New Flyer Infrastructure Solutions™.”"   In the comments section, Dim says: "This is good news, as each electric bus will displace at least as much oil as 30 electric cars. So even such a small order of 15 electric buses, will have the same effect as 450 electric cars. When a single city like Shenzhen switched to using 16,000 electric buses, this displaced the same oil as 480,000 electric cars (or almost 5 years worth of Tesla’s production at 2017 levels and 140% of Tesla’s production at 2018 levels). Focusing political pressure on switching our cities to electric buses, will have really significant results"   https://insideevs.com/new-york-city-new-flyer-xcelsior-electric-buses/   APPLE HIRES TESLA’S HEAD OF ELECTRIC POWERTRAINS IN EFFORT TO BRING ELECTRIC CAR TO MARKET "Earlier this month, we reported on Tesla losing its VP of Engineering behind its latest electric powertrains; Michael Schwekutsch. We described his departure from Tesla as a big loss for the company since he is amongst the most experienced engineers who have brought electric powertrain programs to market, not just at Tesla, but in the industry as a whole." Says Fred at Electrek: "Now Electrek learns from separate sources that he joined Apple’s Special Project Group, which includes the Cupertino company’s Project Titan division. He is the latest of several top Tesla engineers to join the project, which was for a time thought to only consist of a self-driving system for vehicles after a scale-back of the plan. Now that Schwekutsch, who has exclusively worked on electric powertrains over the last decade, has joined Apple, it is becoming clear that the company plans to bring a complete electric vehicle to market."   https://electrek.co/2019/03/30/apple-car-tesla-electric-powertrain/   QUSTION OF THE WEEK ANSWERS   Emails then…     Neil 3 days ago Re question of the week. I currently drive a Toyota hybrid and I am currently looking at buying an EV so this is a question I have been thinking about. Generally I keep a car for between 4 to 8 years depending on how it holds up (I drive 25k a year I did put 200k miles on an ICE car with only routine servicing). I decided to estimate  the cost of ownership over 4 years. For instance going from my previous car to my hybrid saves me £600 a year. A rough guess going to an EV that could do 3 miles per kWhr would save £1500 a year assuming petrol prices stay constant. That is £6k there. Then there is reduced servicing (Teslas announcement this week caught my attention), reduced road tax, etc. The number gets large quickly.   Ashley Hill 3 days ago QOTW:  I can't give a perceived value here; as since researching into effects of breathing car exhaust and other pollution; I can't justify purchasing any other vehicle but full EV, because "I care about the air your breath" (think i might put that on a bumper sticker...)   Zoltán Kárpát 3 days ago (edited) EVs don't cost more than ICE cars. At least the cost of ownership is massively subsidized for gas cars. In 2018 it's estimated that in the US, big oil and big car got 1 trillion dollars in subsidies (800 billion in 2017) ... that's roughly a 4000USD/vehicle subsidy in just one year. In the meanwhile EV makers get about 5000USD/car in ZEV credits and buyers get 10000USD max, only once, for the life of the car. Long story short, if we eliminated all subsidies, then purchase price of EVs would be slightly lower than gas cars, but gas would be at least 4x more expensive than it is now.   Arnis 5 days ago I will pay 5 years of fuel(minus electricity bill). 2000€ per year. Sooo... 10 000€ max premium is acceptable.     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Keep your comments coming in on email and YouTube…   EVs are connected cars, but how much do you think we should value convenience vs privacy?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 211 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Alora Rachelle Brown and Ken Brown are a precious couple met as kids and slowly became best friends. He first professed his love for her, and she freaked out leading to a summer of not talking. Luckily, that summer Alora realized she really liked Ken too. Alora is a self-made top-rated wedding photographer in Michigan. She has a massive heart to see other people rise with her and to empower other women to step into their calling, whether it be a full-time mom or something else or both. She’s the kindest and truest overachiever you’ll ever meet. Ken is an automotive engineer and an incredibly supportive husband and father. In this episode, he redefines what providing for your family as a man means, and it really struck home with me. We’ve talked about the enneagram quite a bit on this episode, if you don’t know what that is, go back and listen to the episode with Brandon and Ashley Hill, we go way more into depth there. For those of you that do know, Alora is a 3w2, and Ken is a 5, and if you know what that means it totally shows in this episode. https://www.instagram.com/alora.rachelle/ https://www.alorarachelle.com/ https://www.loveintently.com/blog/alora-rachelle-brown-and-ken-brown
