Send us a textHi, I'm Roz, and welcome to The Cut Flower Podcast! In today's episode, I'll be answering your most burning questions about seasonal flower gardening, particularly focusing on autumn tasks. From bulb planting to how to care for your dahlias as winter approaches, we're covering it all. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting, I've got practical advice to help you get the most out of your flower patch. This episode dives into some of the most common questions I receive from my membership groups and courses, including how to handle bulbs like Narcissi and Tulips during autumn. I break down why October is ideal for planting Narcissi, but why it's crucial to wait until November or December to plant Tulips to avoid diseases like tulip fire. We also talk about planting hardy annuals like Larkspur and Cornflowers to overwinter, offering practical tips on how to ensure they thrive when spring comes. We also explore the hot topic of dahlia care. Should you lift or leave them in the ground? I explain the factors that go into making that decision, including your climate and soil type. You'll learn about mulching techniques to protect dahlias and other tender plants from the frost, as well as the best ways to store tubers if you decide to lift them. Finally, I answer your questions about roses, manure, and the benefits of sowing green manures like Phacelia. Whether you're wondering if it's too late to plant perennials or how to best prepare your garden for winter, this episode is packed with useful advice for gardeners of all experience levels.Key Takeaways:Patience is key when planting Tulips: Wait until November or even December to avoid fungal diseases.Overwinter hardy annuals: By planting them now, you'll have stronger plants ready to bloom in the spring.Dahlia care: Depending on your climate, you may leave them in the ground or lift them. Either way, mulching is crucial for frost protection.Mulching your flower beds: Applying organic matter like compost in October helps suppress weeds and improves soil structure for next year's blooms.Leave your garden a little wild: Resist the urge to "tidy up" your patch entirely; seed heads and hollow stems benefit wildlife over winter.Thank you for joining me on this episode of The Cut Flower Podcast! Rundown -    Dagny Van Der Jagt in Craig's Lawyers' Lounge - 25:03   Troubadour Dave Gunders - 01:47:17   "Train Keeps Coming" by Dave Gunders - 02:03:41   Orenthal James Simpson has passed away and the show's introduction discusses some of the many poignant OJ memories that occur to the host. OJ was a mighty USC and NFL running back, like a fast train, but he was an evil man. This week's song from Troubadour Dave Gunders is "Train Keeps Coming." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6_03dUueF0   Justice keeps coming for Donald Trump. The NY v Trump felony criminal trial is upcoming on April 15 in New York City and pressure is building worldwide. Dave Gunders and the host discuss OJ's death and the modern lessons applicable to Trump's litigation. The ban on abortions in Arizona is reviewed and the political consequences are considered.   The show begins by condemning Trump's recent comments that Jewish voters need to "get their heads examined" if they vote for Biden. This is divisive and should be condemned. Given the former president's erratic and divisive recent comments, champions of Trump's return to the presidency should reconsider.   Dagny Van Der Jagt will vote for Donald Trump as a proud Republican. She's a mother of four, a native of Europe and an accomplished attorney with her private practice with her husband Grant Van Der Jagt. Learn about their private practice business in Larkspur. https://vdjlaw.com/   Now, Dagny Van Der Jagt is a candidate for the 23rd Judicial District District Attorney position. The host delves into Van Der Jagt's background, qualifications and platform, particularly focusing on her stance on criminal justice reform. Her other campaign promises and policy proposals, including victim advocacy and community engagement are also discussed. https://www.votefordagny.com/   GOP candidate Dagny Van Der Jagt raises substantial concerns about her Republican primary opponent George Brauchler's integrity and qualifications. Van Der Jagt claims Brauchler, the former 18th Judicial DA, cannot be trusted. She cites political flip-flops, especially on Colorado's Red Flag Law. She claims that Brauchler prioritizes personal publicity over justice and saving dollars for his constituents.   She also raises how Brauchler has historically blurred lines as an attorney, GOP party official, DA, military officer, non-profit fellow, professor, ad man, radio talk host, candidate for innumerable Colorado political jobs and Gazette columnist. Van der Jagt is concerned that Brauchler's military position could create conflicts if there were questionable orders from Governor Polis or President Biden.   Douglas County DA candidate Dagny Van Der Jagt accuses Brauchler of grandstanding, overspending and trying to please everyone while pleasing almost no one. Van Der Jagt claims she has solid Republican Party support, given Brauchler's decision to petition rather than go through the party assembly. https://tracer.sos.colorado.gov/PublicSite/SearchPages/CandidateDetail.aspx?Type=CA&SeqID=59971   A video shows Brauchler being booed and made to leave without finishing his speech, at the controversial Douglas County GOP Executive Committee meeting headed by Douglas County GOP Chairman Steve Peck. Witness for yourself. Watch and listen to how Chairman Peck adds up the vote! https://fb.watch/rpIAvs4Fd3/   The Douglas County GOP may issue a statement similar to the Colorado GOP's rebuke of Deborah Flora for not going through the county assembly. Van Der Jagt believes her commitment to going through the Republican Party assembly makes her the better choice for 23rd Judicial District DA. She wants full GOP support. Just like Boebert received from Colorado GOP in CD4.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Roy Rogers & Dale Evans' Granddaughter, Julie Rogers Pomilia, Author, “Your Heroes My Grandparents” About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Julie Rogers Pomilia, is the granddaughter of one of the most beloved couples in the history of show business – the King and Queen of the Westerns, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.    They co-starred in 88 movies.  They had a radio show for 9 years, and starting in the 50's, they were on TV almost continuously, starting with the Roy Rogers Show, the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show, Happy Trails Theatre, and they appeared in dozens of variety and talk shows and award shows throughout their lives.  They recorded over 400 songs and sold millions of records.   Roy Rogers was the #1 Western box office star for 11 years in a row, from 1943 to 1954.  He has FOUR stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for his contribution to TV, radio, music and the movies.  And he's the only performer to have been inducted TWICE into the Country Music Hall of Fame, once as part of the Sons of the Pioneers, and the 2nd time as an individual performer.  He was so incredibly popular back in the 50s and 60s, that there were over 400 toys and merchandising items with Roy Rogers' name on them.   There was even a chain of Roy Rogers Restaurants.   And Dale Evans was an immensely successful star in her own right.  She wrote their iconic theme song, “Happy Trails”, which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008, and was named one of the top 100 western songs of all time by the Western Writers of America.   And get this:  Dale Evans also wrote the classic Sunday School song, “The Bible Tells Me So”.  She also wrote 29 books, including her mega-best seller, “Angel Unaware”, inspired by their child Robin, who was born with Down Syndrome, and who died 2 days before her 2nd birthday.   Dale Evans has 2 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for her work in movies and on television.   Although WE knew Roy Rogers and Dale Evans as the King and Queen of the Westerns, our guest knew them as simply, Grandma and Grandpa.   She's just released a wonderful, heartwarming book entitled, “Your Heroes, My Grandparents: A Granddaughter's Love.”  The book gives us an intimate look at who Roy Rogers and Dale Evans really were, not only as superstars, but especially as devoted partners, parents of 9 children, and grandparents of 16 children.    Our guest is an elementary school teacher who's spent the last 20 years travelling across the country, to western festivals, fairs and rodeos, to sing, tell stories, sit on panels, ride in parades, and meet with fans to honour and celebrate the legacy of her beloved grandparents and keep their memory alive.  She and her 2 sisters sang and performed around the country in a group called “The Rogers Legacy”, and she co-hosted a popular radio show called “Around the Barn”.  And she and her husband Gino run the Gino Pomilia Baseball Camp every summer in Larkspur, California.    And for many years she's ridden horseback in the Pasadena Rose Parade on New Year's Day. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Julie Rogers Pomilia, go to:https://www.facebook.com/jammyprod/https://www.instagram.com/jammyprod/https://www.tiktok.com/@jammyprod #JulieRogersPomilia  #harveybrownstoneinterviews

It's the finale episode of Season 4!  It's going to be a bare bones episode again with no intro and no outro.  My voice recovered from strep, only to lose it again by teaching a clinic to forty-five Kindergarteners through 3rd graders.  I'm sure you all can relate.   It's a good thing that our guest on the podcast today holds enough sparkle that she doesn't need a flowery intro and outro!  I'm so excited to be chatting with Sarah Flisowski of Blinn College! The Blinn College dance team has won numerous American Dance and Drill Team collegiate championships, has won eight national titles at the National Dance Alliance (NDA) College Nationals and six national tiles at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals. In 2019, Blinn's dance team made history by claiming national titles in Dance Team Performance Open and Pom Division II. Barland Flisowski is a former member of the Blinn dance team and a graduate of Southwest Texas State University – now Texas State University – in San Marcos, Texas, with a degree in exercise sports science and minor in political science. She was also a member of the dance company Orchesis. She also earned her master's in physical education and health from Prairie View A&M University. Barland Flisowski started her teaching career at Mesquite ISD, where she taught for two years at Berry Middle school. She went on to Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD to become the director of the award-winning RL Turner Lionettes and dance department head. She was the director of the Lionettes for seven years before returning to Blinn as the head coach of the Blinn College dance and cheer teams. Barland Flisowski also is a 20-year staff member with American Dance and Drill Team School, where she has been the Novelty Staff Captain and Social Officer Coordinator.  Sarah has traveled to Florida as a member of ESP Productions, the halftime production company of the Citrus Bowl for over 10 years. She has been a speaker at Drill Team Directors of America and assisted with speaking at Texas Dance Educators Association. Sarah is a member of NDCA, National Dance Coaches Association where she is a Executive Board member, College Division Representative and on the Small College Committee. She has done choreography for high schools all around Texas and beyond and loves working with all dancers and helping them find their place in college dance. It's one of my favorite conversations that I've ever had for the podcast and I'm excited to rerelease it. Laura was the longtime cross country and track coach at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California, where she was at the helm for 35 years and led some of the best teams and athletes in the state. She's also a wife, a mom, and now a grandmother since we had this conversation over two years ago—not to mention an entrepreneur who founded a play-based preschool that's still going strong today as well as the first treadmill studio on the West Coast. In short: she's an incredible woman and someone I respect and admire immensely. In this conversation, we talked about running, community, coaching, family, parenting, and entrepreneurship—all things Laura knows a lot about and has had a lot of success in over the years. This episode is brought to you by:— New Balance.
