We're heading out for a road trip with two ladies who are doing it for themselves! Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon star as the titular leads in this 1991 road trip crime drama from director Ridley Scott. When a girls' weekend getaway goes awry, a waitress and housewife must dodge the law and would-be lovers to make a true getaway. But when their luck runs out, they must take a leap of faith. Co-starring Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Christopher McDonald, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Brad Pitt, the film won multiple awards, including the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for writer Callie Khouri. It was instantly part of the pop culture lexicon at the time, and in the years since, this movie has become a landmark of feminist film. The Hotwives of Orlando is a 2014 Hulu Original comedy series. The show spoofs on reality shows like The Real Housewives, focusing on a fictional group of women in Orlando who lead extravagant, dramatic lives. Each character embodies a different reality TV stereotype, from the ditzy trophy wife to the volatile diva, and the show follows their ridiculous feuds, parties, and over-the-top personal dramas. Critics generally appreciated The Hotwives for its clever satire and comedic performances, especially by the ensemble cast, though it remained a niche favorite. Based on a short story credited to his brother Jonathan Nolan, the film was highly praised at the time of its release for its creative narrative structure, which has continued to mesmerize audiences over twenty years after its release. Many of the recurring themes in Nolan's work and stylistic choices can be traced back to this film, which broke new ground and ushered in a new era of his filmmaking career, which led to a partnership with Warner Bros. With the success of "Oppenheimer," similar featuring black and white sequences and an unconventional narrative structure, find out what Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Brendan Hodges and I had to say about the film's writing, direction, performances, awards season run and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review! Episode 34 - Hype: Sneakers (1992)There are so many great movies that came from the 90's, but “Sneakers” is one that not only stands out but is one that I either return from time to watch again and again or stop and watch some (or all of) whenever I find it playing anywhere. While I can appreciate dark, twisted espionage thrillers, 'Sneakers' takes a different path. It steers away from what we have more recently been accustomed to with the usual gritty tones for a blend of light-hearted mischief, humor, and suspense, making it a uniquely enjoyable experience.. You have a one of a kind cast with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Mary McDonnell, River Phoenix, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, David Strathairn, Donal Logue, Stephen Tobolowsky, Timothy Busfield and more. It kind of (I am reaching here a little bit) feels like the precursor to the Ocean's 11 reboot with its group of goofy characters facing real threats. This movie is written by the team behind “WarGames” and is directed by the always entertaining Phil Alden Robinson (“Field of Dreams”, “The Sum of All Fears”, and the series “The Good Fight”). The movie's crown jewel, however, is its music. Composer James Horner, known for 'Avatar', 'Braveheart', and 'Titanic', delivers one of my all-time favorite scores. Everyone behind and in front of the camera brings their A-game to this movie. Yes at times its a little cheesy and feels a little dated, but none of that gets in the way of this movie being pure fun. The only frustration I have with this movie is its bad title. As you will hear in this episode, there were other great title options that were included in the movie! Other than that one (but important) frustration this early 90's hit is one that if you have not seen it that I highly recommend you check out. “Sneakers” is available to rent and or purchase on all platforms. Enjoy the movie and thanks for listening. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit sohrabsmovieq.substack.com

Girls Gone Hallmark is a twice-weekly Hallmark review podcast. Today, Megan and Wendy, review the Lacey Chabert sequel "Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up." With its excellent ensemble cast and razor-sharp dialogue, could this sequel sleigh the first movie? Download and listen now! About Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up Director - Maclain Nelson - His 14 directing credits include this year's "A Heidelberg Holiday" and of course the OG "Haul Out the Holly." Writer - Chris Sey  - With only 6 credits, Christopher has only written one previous Hallmark movie, "You're Bacon Me Crazy." He was not the writer on the first "Haul out the Holly." Christopher Sey's incredible efforts during the pandemic. While researching him, I learned that his wife is an ER doc at a hospital in Los Angeles. Along with some friends, he founded a non-profit called DINE ONE ONE that not only provided meals for healthcare workers, but also supported local restaurants.  "Haul out the Holly: Lit Up" was filmed in Utah in September 2023. Lacey Chabert (Emily) - With 175 acting credits it's safe to say Lacey is more than just the queen of Christmas. She also appeared in "A Merry Scottish Christmas" and "The Dancing Detective" this year in addition to reprising her role as Gretchen Werner's in a Walmart Black Friday commercial. Wes Brown (Jared) His 48 acting credits include a ton of Hallmark, but believe it or not we've only reviewed two of his movies here on GGH. Wes dropped his Christmas Jazz album this year titled "My Kind of Christmas." Stephen Tobolowsky (Ned) - Stephen wins the prize for most acting credits of an Actor Appearing on Hallmark, if such a prize exists, with 290 credits. What hasn't he been in? He was a series regular on "The Goldbergs," "One Day at a Time," "Californication," "Silicon Valley" and "Heroes" and we're glad to have him on Hallmark. Related Podcast Episode: Girls Gone Hallmark reviews the original "Haul Out the Holly" from 2022. Melissa Peterman (Pamela) Melissa always lights up the screen in any role among her 36 acting credits. She appeared in "Baby Daddy" on Netflix and of course her role as Barbara Jean on "Reba" is iconic.  Ellen Travolta (Mary Louise) - yes, that Travolta! She has 52 acting credits and appeared in series like "Charles in Charge" and "Joani loves Chachi." In addition to reprising her role as Mary Louise on "Haul Out the Holly," she's reprising a 30 year old role on "General Hospital" as Gloria Cerullo coming up soon. Jennifer Aspen (Jane Johnson). She has 84 acting credits including 44 episodes as Daphne in the series "Party of Five" (with Lacey Chabert). Seth Morris (Joe Johnson). He doesn't have as many acting credits as Stephen Tobolowsky, but with 138 the dude has been in some stuff. Including, "The Big Leap" (a FOX one-season series), HBO's "Veep," Netflix's "Love," "The Good Place," "Parks and Rec," "The League" and so much more.  We got a quick cameo from Eric Mabius who plays Allan, Pamela's husband. Who Was in Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up? Peter Jacobson (Albert) Laura Wardle (Belinda) Kenneth Cummins (Jimmy Johnson) Eliza Hayes Maher (Jessica) Carrie Morgan (Gail) Walter Platz (Bob) Lila Clark (Nicole) Charlotte Kay Witt (Helen)
