If you've been struggling with your weight for years—or even decades—I want you to hear this clearly: It's not about the food. And in this episode, let's discover how your nervous system is actually controlling your cravings, your habits… and your ability to release weight. The First Agreement I Make With ClientsWhen I begin working with someone, we start with one important agreement: No weighing yourself.I know this can feel uncomfortable, especially when your goal is weight release. But focusing on the scale keeps you stuck in symptoms instead of addressing the root cause.Instead, I guide my clients to focus on:Their patternsTheir behaviorsTheir relationship with foodBecause that's where real change happens. The Real Problem Isn't FoodMost people think their issue is food. It's not.Because if it wasn't food, it could be:AlcoholSmokingAny other coping mechanismThe real issue is: The behavior behind the food. And that's exactly what I focus on.Your Nervous System Is Driving EverythingI look at hormones—but through behavior, emotions, and nervous system regulation.Your autonomic nervous system controls:HungerFullnessCravingsEmotional responsesThere are two key states:Sympathetic (Fight / Flight / Freeze)When you're in this state:Cortisol is elevatedBlood sugar stays highInsulin increasesYour body gets the message to:Store fatEat moreThis is where emotional eating, binge eating, and cravings live.Parasympathetic (Rest & Digest)This is where your body feels safe. And I want you to remember this: Weight release happens in the parasympathetic state. When your body feels safe:Cravings decreaseHormones regulateYour body no longer feels the need to hold onWhy I Don't Focus on Controlling FoodI don't teach people to control food.Because control always backfires.Instead, I focus on:Regulating the nervous systemReducing emotional triggersShifting behavioral patternsAnd when those behaviors fade… Weight release becomes a natural side effect.A Real Client StoryI recently worked with a client who went through a deeply emotional time—she lost her father very suddenly.During that time, our focus was not food.It was:Nervous system regulationEmotional supportProcessing traumaMonths later, she told me: She put on a pair of jeans she hadn't fit into in years… and they fit.We never focused on dieting. We focused on healing. The Root Cause of Emotional EatingSo many eating patterns are tied to:Past traumaStressAnxietyUnprocessed life eventsWhen we:Regulate the nervous systemProcess those experiencesCreate safety in the bodyThe urge to overeat… naturally dissolves. This work is about moving away from control… And stepping into awareness, safety, and real transformation. Because when your body feels safe… it no longer needs to hold on.Struggling with unwanted eating behavior? If you've been hearing more and more about GLP-1 medications lately… you're not alone. Whether you're currently using one, considering it, or just quietly wondering if it might be part of your journey, this week's podcast episode is a conversation you don't want to miss. I'm sitting down with Lynn, who released 70 pounds using a GLP-1 alongside the Shift Weight Mastery process. And here's what makes her story so powerful… This isn't a "the drug did it all" story. It's a story about ownership. Yes, the medication helped. But the real transformation came from: Learning how to work with her mind Rewiring her relationship with food and her body Stepping into true inner leadership Because the deeper question isn't: "Should I take a GLP-1?" It's: "How do I create a way of living and thinking that allows me to stay at my ideal weight long-term?" What's especially inspiring is that Lynn is now maintaining her weight—even after coming off the medication. She shares honestly about: The fear The mindset shifts The identity changes And what it really takes to sustain results This is a grounded, honest, and hopeful conversation about what's possible when you combine tools with mindset. This episode is for you if you've ever struggled with intense cravings, restrictive diets, or the endless cycle of trying to control your weight, only to feel stuck. In this episode, I explores a powerful mindset shift: health starts in your mind, not in your diet, exercise, or movement. Every craving, impulse, and ability to release weight begins in your mental landscape.1. Health Begins in the Mind I challenges conventional health narratives: it's not about CrossFit, macros, or strict plans — it's about your thoughts. Every thought affects body chemistry — hormones, cravings, and fat storage respond to your mind. Scarcity thoughts like “I'm not enough” keep you in protection mode, driving overeating.2. Cravings Are Mental First Cravings, subtle or intense, originate in the mind. Willpower alone won't stop them; addressing thoughts and nervous system patterns does. Permanent change comes from becoming the person who naturally makes healthy choices, not from restriction. Cravings are symptoms, not failures.3. Weight Release Follows Mindset Anti-diet approaches focus on behavior, not weight. The mind regulates the nervous system, which affects metabolism. Sustainable weight release happens when your nervous system feels safe. I shares her journey: years of diets and calorie counting caused disordered eating until she focused on mindset.4. Scarcity vs. Safety Mindset Thoughts like “I missed my window, so I might as well overeat” keep the body in protection mode. Auditing and choosing safety-focused, self-compassionate thoughts helps your nervous system support healthy behavior naturally.5. Beyond Diet Culture Rapid weight-loss promises reinforce shame and scarcity. Real success is centeredness, freedom from cravings, and a stable relationship with food.Key Takeaways & Journal PromptsWrite this mantra: “Health begins in the mind.”Focus on behavior and nervous system regulation.Trace cravings to thoughts, not failures.Long-term change is identity-driven.Center yourself in safety and sufficiency.Journal: Which thoughts make me feel unsafe? How do cravings reflect my nervous system? What mindset shift can create safety? Where can scarcity thinking become abundance thinking?I reminds listeners: lasting change comes from retraining your mind, reclaiming your nervous system, and creating safety. So many of us have become disconnected from our bodies–pushing through exhaustion; ignoring our physical cues for hunger, thirst, or rest; and numbing emotions with food, work, or social media. This week, I sit down with Toni Bergins, M.Ed., founder and director of JourneyDance®, to explore how body movement through dance can be a pathway to reconnect with your body, express emotions, release old trauma, and step into to your joy, authenticity, sensuality, and power.Key Takeaways:Dance as Deep Healing: Movement isn't just physical, it's a pathway to emotional release, spiritual awakening, and self-connection. Tired of chasing weight loss—and getting nowhere? What if the real key to lasting change isn't another diet... but a complete shift in how we approach health? In this transformative episode, Sherry Shaban challenges everything we've been taught about weight loss. Rather than focusing on calories or willpower, she reveals why true, sustainable weight release begins with healing the nervous system, balancing hormones, and supporting gut health.Sherry redefines “diet” to include everything we consume—from food to media—and how these hidden stressors impact our metabolism and wellbeing. It's a powerful reminder that health isn't just physical—it's emotional, environmental, and deeply personal.

Welcome to a very special, milestone episode of the Boss Body Podcast. Today I'm celebrating my 100th episode and the launch of our third season! I couldn't think of a more fitting topic than body confidence and self-love—issues that resonate deeply, especially for women navigating midlife, menopause, and beyond.Did you know that between 69% and 84% of women report feeling dissatisfied with their bodies? Do you have an inner critic inside your head that's constantly putting you down?A voice that goes around and around in your head all day saying negative things - especially about your body and your ability to stick to healthy habits?Did you know the private conversations you have with yourself can either be motivating and help you move forward with positive action, or major obstacles to reaching your goals. That's because thoughts create emotions, emotions create actions, actions create your outer reality. And that's why negative thinking can quickly turn into self-fulfilling prophecies. If you're constantly beating yourself up, you're not going to feel motivated, you're not going to have the confidence that you can do it and, many times, when we feel bad, we turn to food to help us feel better. Which ends up perpetuating the cycle. In this episode, I share four steps that can help you quiet the inner critic, break the vicious cycle, and start feeling positive and motivated.Important Links:Free Rev Up Your Metabolism eBookWalking for Weight Release 6-Week Beginner Walking ProgramWebsite: sarahhaaswellness.comFacebook: Sarah Haas WellnessInstagram: @sarahhaaswellnessYoutube: Sarah Haas WellnessThanks so much for listening to my podcast! When you are struggling with all of the symptoms of a hormonally imbalanced body (which by the way is a common part of going through perimenopause) one of the first steps I focus on for myself and my clients is to manage blood sugar levels. Choosing nutrition that creates consistent blood sugar in the body will improve sleep, reduce cravings and fatigue, reduce cortisol and give the body the space it needs to metabolize and balance our hormones themselves…keeping all of those terrible symptoms away…not to mention aid our bodies in shifting from fat storage to fat burning…sounds pretty great right?!? Although managing your blood glucose on your own is possible, I have fallen in love with an amazing tool called a Continuous Glucose Monitor (or CGM) from a company called Nutrisense which you wear on your body and not only gives you immediate feedback on how your specific blood sugar is being affected by your food choices, but also how to improve energy, sleep, fitness and therefore results. On this episode of the pod, I am fortunate enough to have the amazing Catherine Staffieri, a nutrition and glucose expert and registered dietician with Nutrisense, to chat about the impact of glucose on hormones, perimenopause and menopause, weight loss and the incredible benefits of using a CGM as a tool to help you feel your best. Catherine is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist currently working as a Nutrition Manager at Nutrisense, one of the fastest growing healthtech start-ups aimed to help anyone discover and reach their health potential. Catherine has counseled thousands of clients on their glucose scores reviewing over 750,000 hours of glucose data and recorded meals in the process, while recommending nutritional adjustments to improve metabolic health. She holds a Masters in Nutrition Education from Columbia University and completed her undergrad work at the University of Pennsylvania. She enjoys cooking, spending time with her 3 kids, traveling and being active. Catherine's philosophy is that you're never too old to make changes in your life to better your mind, your body and your well being.
