Kinesiska forskare nu har hittat fossila avtryck som tyder på att en stor rovdinosaurie bar långa dunlika fjädrar. Dinosaurien tillhör samma familj som Tyrannosaurus rex och har fått art-namnet Yutyrannus uuali. I veckomagasinet kan du också höra om den nya satsningen på forskningssamarbetet Science for life, om hur hälsan hänger ihop med samhälleliga klyftor, en pratstund med vår brasilienreporter och ett litet filmtips. I tisdags gick regeringen ut med att ett nytt nationellt forskningsinstitut ska skapas i Stockholm och Uppsala med inriktning på så kallad life science, det kommer handla främst om biomedicinsk forskning med fokus på kartläggning av vår arvsmassa och proteiner för att kunna bota sjukdomar. 1000 forskare ska så småningom vara knutna till "Science for Life Laboratory", som på presskonferensen presenterades som "unikt" och "historiskt" av de inblandade, men redan idag finns det ett forskningscentrum med samma namn. Frågan är vad som egentligen är nytt här. Vetenskapsradions reporter Per Gustafsson är tillbaka efter en resa till Brasilien. Där skulle han ta reda på inom vilka forskningsområden som de kommit längst med och var de tänker sig konkurrera internationellt. Hur det gick med det kommer vi att få höra i Vetandets värld längre fram, men redan nu delar Per med sig av andra erfarenheter från resan. Det rapporteras ofta om hur forskare hittat samband mellan t ex genetiska faktorer och olika sjukdomar eller om ett nytt läkemedel eller behandlingsmetod som förlänger livet, men faktum är att var vi bor och vad vi pluggat eller jobbar med också påverkar hur länge vi lever. Skillnaden i livslängd mellan hög- och lågutbildade i Sverige har ökat stadigt de senaste 40 åren. I Malmö skiljer det sju år i medellivslängd mellan vissa bostadsområden. Enligt Denny Vågerö, professor i medicinsk sociologi vid Stockholms Universitet, så är de här allt större hälsoklyftorna ett växande problem i det svenska samhället som måste utredas ordentligt.
