Those who have experienced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) will often report the profoundly painful experience of being thrown into past trauma by a particular trigger. Common examples include war veterans who may experience full body activation following a loud explosive noise. Another example is victims of violent crimes being shown content about similar circumstances that can launch them into the past. This experience of being thrown back in time has been thoroughly analyzed utilizing Time Perspective Therapy (TPT) by co-developer and counselor Rosemary Sword. Rose is the co-author of the renowned 2012 book The Time Cure: Overcoming PTSD with the New Psychology of Time Perspective Therapy. She worked on the book with her husband, clinical psychologist Richard Sword, PhD, and Philip Zimbardo, PhD, psychologist and professor at Stanford University. When Richard passed away from gastric cancer a year and a half later, she continued her work on TPT with Zimbardo, eventually coming to their new book Seeing Through the Grief. While it was released in the spring of 2024, Zimbardo sadly passed away in October. Other projects they worked on included a second TPT book titled Living & Loving Better, partnering with Happify.com Premium to offer Overcome PTSD and Heal from Grief and Loss, as well as a Psychology Today column, The Time Cure. Štěstí nás činí velkorysými, pokornými i skromnými. Štěstí je původem velkorysosti a velkorysost zas původem štěstí. Naopak neštěstí nás může činit náročnými a nezdrženlivými. Nakonec jsme tedy znovu u Ježíše: „Tomu, kdo má, totiž bude dáno a bude mít hojnost, ale tomu, kdo nemá, bude vzato i to, co má.“ Kapitola I. Happify, muška jenom zlatá a happychondři [začátek až 13:50] II. Antické paradoxy štěstí [13:50–30:10] III. Ježíš: „nejšťastnější člověk, který kdy žil“ [30:10–44:50] IV. Sisyfos, Camusův stud a Kertészova otázka, zda může být člověk šťastný i v koncentráku [44:50–1:02:20] V. Nešťastní happychodři a diktát štěstí [1:02:20 až závěr] Bibliografie Albert Camus, Mýtus o Sisyfovi, přel. Dagmar Steinová, Praha: Svoboda,1995. André-Jean Festugière, Epikúros a jeho bohové, přel. I'm inviting you to revisit a very special conversation I had from Season 4 of this podcast with my guest pediatric ICU nurse, Hui-Wen Sato. Why? Well something absolutely crazy and horrible happened to the both of us shortly after we recorded that episode in November 2022. Just over 2 months later, on January 20th 2023, we BOTH received a Breast Cancer Diagnosis. On the EXACT SAME DAY. You'll hear a compelling new intro about the friendship that formed and of course have a chance to listen or re-listen to the profound wisdom Hui-Wen shares in our conversation. What must it be like to be a pediatric ICU Nurse day in and day out, witnessing children and families in the most vulnerable and often grief-filled moments of their lives? Today's guest, Hui-Wen Sato weaves a beautiful narrative about the realities of professional grief and the important cultural shifts needed to better serve both families and the medical professionals that serve them. She also shares the personal resources she draws on to sustain her and the role of storytelling as healing for all involved. And, as the title implies, she also implores us to stop putting healthcare workers on a pedestal. Hui-wen is a pediatric ICU nurse based in Los Angeles. She holds an MPH and MSN from UCLA, and is currently obtaining her Certification in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University. She and her husband have two daughters, two tortoises and one complicated dog. This episode is so important for women -- and for those who love them. I had the absolute honor and delight of sitting down with the famously beloved Regena Thomashauer, endearingly known as “Mama Gena” and celebrated as an icon, legend, media personality, and revolutionary – and the vivacious author of the NY Times Bestseller called Pussy: A Reclamation. If you are (or care about) a woman who has ever… …felt shame about your body or sexuality, …dimmed your power or light, …and/or denied, ignored, dismissed, or overrode your own pleasure and desires because you didn't think they were important… …oh my goooodness, you are in for such a treat this episode. Mama Gena's mission is all about helping women reclaim what it means to be fully expressed and embodied. She believes that women are the greatest untapped natural resource on the planet, and she has taught countless women to turn on their innate feminine power to create a life they love. Regena's approach stems from decades of research in the social, cultural, and economic history of women, and she has been recognized widely as a leading expert in modern feminism. She has been featured on Elle, Glamour magazine, Newsweek, TEDx, 2020, and countless other media outlets. In her classroom and through her books, she shifts the way women hold their sexuality and identities, both individually and culturally. On her website it reads: “She creates communities of women who are so outrageously and wildly expressed that they are loving the world back to itself.” Big yes to that! After hearing the buzz and excitement about this book a few years ago, Bret I got the audio version and listened to it together on a long road trip. We both enthusiastically recommend it and have since shared it with countless clients and friends. May you – and anyone you love – be served and inspired by this juicy episode and by getting a glimpse into what it looks like to reclaim what it means to be a woman – and to be fully turned on from being alive. ❤️ HELPFUL LINKS https://www.instagram.com/mamagena/ https://mamagenas.com/ https://www.amazon.com/Pussy-Reclamation-Regena-Thomashauer/dp/1401950248 https://centerforthrivingrelationships.com/ https://www.instagram.com/centerforthrivingrelationships/ ✨ MORE ABOUT THE THRIVING RELATIONSHIPS SHOW Christine Eartheart, Founder of the Center for Thriving Relationships, interviews some of the most inspiring luminaries, thought leaders, and researchers of our time to gain their unique insights on every imaginable aspect of how to experience more love, healing, and understanding in all our relationships. Danielle LaPorte has a new book out with a title that makes my heart swoon… “How to Be Loving: when your heart is breaking open and the world is waking up” In this inspiring interview, we talk about what to do with the inevitable fears that arise in relationships, why forgiveness is so essential, the brilliant intelligence of the heart, a reminder of just how vast our capacity for love truly is, what "un-selfing is" and why it matters, the power of loving kindness, how to be loving when we don't feel like it, her own story of falling in love while writing the book, and so much more. ❤️ DANIELLE LAPORTE BIO Danielle is a member of Oprah's SuperSoul 100 — a group who, in Oprah Winfrey's words, “is uniquely connecting the world together with a spiritual energy that matters.” The former director of a future studies think tank in Washington, DC, where she managed a team creating global scenarios, she now speaks about the intelligence of the heart. In addition to her most recent book, How To Be Loving, Danielle is also the author of The Fire Starter Sessions, The Desire Map, White Hot Truth, and the producer of dozens of meditation kits and online programs for spiritual support. Here's a question. What questions are you asking? This week's guest is Gareth Kay. He's the SVP of Brand at Happify Health. Before that, he's been the Head of Strategy at Goodby Silverstein, and the Founding Partner at Chapter Creative Studios. Gareth is a relentlessly curious soul. And that has made him one of the best thinkers in the world about creativity and innovation. When all the answers are out of date, or from a different reality, the only choice we have is to start asking more and better questions. Everyone wants to know what the future of work looks like. Leaders want their people back in the building because - pick any you want from this list - I can see what they're doing. I know who's engaged. Our business is better when we collaborate. Our culture is crucial. I have a ten year lease on 100,000 feet of prime commercial real estate. These are all answers to old questions. Questions focused on what works best for the company. If you're leading a business in which talent is not a competitive advantage, or one in which talent is easy to find, my bet is you will be able to create a new version of the old status quo by asking yourself and everyone around you old questions. But if you're leading a business in which talent is the game changer, and great talent is hard to find, then you're going to win when you start to ask different questions. Questions that put the needs of the talent at the center of your curiosity. And that starts by asking yourself new questions. The first of which is, “Like what?”.

Have you ever been driving and realized just a bit too late that you missed your exit? Have you ever traveled somewhere just to find that you've seen the same street corner three times, and you realize you've been going in circles? Perhaps you took the wrong turn because you were distracted by your favorite song on the radio. Or maybe your GPS routed you the wrong way. These inconveniences can be enough to forget why you started in the first place! You might veer off course or give up altogether and go home. As a business owner, these same annoyances can crop up when working to achieve your goals. How you approach your goals isn't that different from traveling! Your motivation is the fuel that powers you and gives you the focus and follow-through. Let's explore six mile-markers, or tips, to help you stay on course from start to finish. Mile Marker #1: Goals vs. Values Let's take a closer look at this traveling analogy: if a goal is like a destination, then your values are the reason to hit the road. If you don't know why you're traveling to a destination, it'll make it much harder to get there. No matter the venture, make sure that you understand why you're pursuing your goals. Check that your sales align with your core principles and values. Coordinating these will set you up with a full tank of motivation. To download my complimentary Values Clarification Exercise to help get you started on defining and getting clarity on your core values, go to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/values-clarification/. Mile Marker #2: Picture It What does reaching your goal look like? More and more, visualization is vital for achieving goals. While you don't have to break out glue or clippings for a vision board, having a clear image in your mind is crucial to jumpstart your motivation. Taking some quality time to look inward and imagine reaching your goal can hone your focus and keep you feeling inspired to follow through. Visualizing can be the tools or methods that help you maintain motivation. Tools like calendars, Gantt charts, or spreadsheets can give you a literal vision of a goal and your progress. This also keeps your motivation burning strong. Mile Marker #3: Make Pit Stops Even long-haul truckers need to rest and refuel. In the same way, break your goals down into smaller parts to keep your energy up. When you break a massive goal down, it also feels less daunting and more manageable. It gives you a chance to celebrate the progress you've made along the way. You may be familiar with the sense of satisfaction when half your to-do list is checked off. This can create a domino effect in building up momentum, confidence, and motivation to continue to strive to reach your goals. Mile Marker #4: Say ‘No' to Multitasking There is growing evidence indicating that multitasking isn't all it's cracked up to be. In fact, juggling several tasks to save time often results in lower quality work and leaves you drained and scatter-brained. According to Happify, you've got a certain amount of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energy to put toward a goal. Whether that means being on your feet, hunched over a desk, or managing the stress of a tight deadline all day, you've got a limited amount of energy. Make sure that you don't run on fumes just to get more done in less time. Mile Marker #5: Plan for Detours It's great to be ambitious in your goals. How else can you grow and exceed expectations? It's also worth managing ambition when working toward your goals. Acknowledging that mistakes or obstacles are possible isn't pessimistic. It's realistic. It allows room for you to have a back-up plan if things don't go exactly as expected. A big part of maintaining motivation is the sense of momentum and energy you're putting toward it. If you feel blindsided by a slip-up or unexpected turn, you may lose confidence in your abilities, your team, or even your goals. The best way to avoid this is to be mentally prepared for obstacles. Mile Marker #6: Navigate with Helpful Self-Talk Nobody likes a back-seat driver. A nagging voice criticizing your every move is enough to deplete anyone of their motivation (and cause some road rage, too). So, do yourself a favor, and don't allow this back-seat driver in your self-talk! Though it's subtle, our motivation can be significantly impacted by what we say to ourselves and how we say it. If your inner dialogue leans toward negativity, harshness, or a judgmental tone, you're probably doing more to hurt your motivation than building up the momentum to see a goal through. Bringing it All Together This last mile marker of compassionate self-talk may be the most important because it helps tie together all the tips laid out. It's also important because, as Lolly Daskal points out in Inc., “All motivation is self-motivation”. In conclusion, use one, two, or all six of these mile markers as you approach your next goal. You'll build your motivation as soon as the rubber meets the road.
