Recently appointed Co-Producing Artistic Directors James Barry and Tara Franklin have announced Chester Theatre Company's 2023 season, the first under their direction. WAM Theatre’s latest production is a reading of the new play "The Light" by Loy Webb, directed by Colette Robert, which will be available to stream through Sunday, May 2. In the play, a surprise proposal gift puts the future of Genesis and Rashad's relationship at risk when they are forced to confront a devastating secret from the past. "The Light" is a 70-minute, real-time rollercoaster ride of laughter, romance, and despair that uncovers how the power of radical love can be a healing beacon of light. "The Light" was playwright Loy Webb’s first play. Loy and WAM Theatre’s Artistic Director Kristen van Ginhoven join us.

In this episode, Kathlynn and Jose start by looking back at the attack on the Capitol by white supremacists. Furthermore, the way in which theatrical elements can be put at the service of terrorists. After that, they review two shows. First, they discuss Shotgun Players' production of Loy A. Webb's The Light. They follow this with a review of 1993, an audio drama by Finkle produced by the Keen Company. Jose interviews Heather Christian and Joshua William Gelb. They are the composer and director/performer, respectively, behind Send Me the Sacred Face. The show explores the life of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Gelb plays her, in drag. Now in her third season as Artistic Director, Pam MacKinnon has had to rearrange her life (which was already in flux, still learning about her new home town of San Francisco) and the work of her organization in order to survive the complete shutdown of live theatre in America. A noted theatre director before joining A.C.T., Pam MacKinnon won an Obie and then was nominated for a Tony on Broadway for Clybourne Park. A leading director of the works of Edward Albee, she won a Tony Award in 2013 for a revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. In the Bay Area, most notably, she directed Albee's Seascape for ACT during the 2018-2019 season, and before that, directed the musical Amelie at Berkeley Rep. In this interview, she discusses the changes A.C.T. was forced to make to deal with the shutdown, the rise of streaming, working with other companies, and coming up with new ways to survive the pandemic, including a host of streaming options at act-sf.org. David Grann has become one of America's leading writers of non-fiction. Having written pieces for The New Yorker and New Republic as a staff writer, his first book was titled The Lost City of Z, which was adapted into a film in 2017 and now streams on Amazon Prime.
