Episode 362: RASHAD SMITH (Pt.1): The Mystery Beatmaker for Rakim, Uptown Records & Busta Rhymes This week on @RoadPodcast, the crew sits down for Part 1 of an epic two-part conversation with legendary producer @Rashad_Ringo_Smith — the mastermind behind tracks for @TheNotoriousBIG, @BustaRhymes, @JayZ, @Beyonce, @TheGodRakim, and more. You may not know his name, but you definitely know his sound. Rashad kicks things off by reflecting on his early days as a DJ, his childhood nicknames, and the powerful influence his mother had on his musical journey (00:11). He shares his deep love for jazz and reveals how he flipped the same sample two different ways for Busta Rhymes' “Woo Hah” and its remix featuring @OlDirtyBastardLegacy (08:55). He breaks down the art of crate digging with iconic producers, the origins of the “pause tape,” and how it became the foundation for early production before DAWs (18:01). Rashad dives deep into the making of “Woo Hah,” seeing the Hype Williams-directed video for the first time, and Spike Lee's unexpected interest in using the track for Clockers (38:01). From crafting “Don't Sweat the Technique” to the murky politics of credit in the industry (58:10), Rashad opens up about why he calls himself “The Muted Drum” — a nod to his role as one of the most “unknown, known” producers in hip-hop (1:11:04). He also shares stories from his time at Uptown Records, working with a young @Diddy, and the moment he invented the producer tag (1:31:01), before diving into the rise of Bad Boy Records and the complicated dynamics behind the scenes (1:55:01). The episode wraps with Rashad reflecting on the making of the classic Notorious B.I.G. track “One More Time” (2:10:33). Don't miss Part 2, where Rashad speaks on more of his iconic tracks and tells unforgettable stories. Part three of RA.999: a celebration of soulful footwork and the timeless influence of DJ Rashad. As we gear up to celebrate the 1,000th episode, RA.999 lands with five mixes across five days. First up was 1morning and Regal86, then Prosumer and Peach. Today, we turn our eyes to Chicago, with two of footwork staples, DJ Spinn and Manny, taking the reins of the third installment of RA.999 (both make their RA Podcast debut). Ten years ago, Teklife Records was founded, following the untimely death of DJ Rashad in 2014. His collaborators started the label to honor the Chicago-born producer's musical genius and continue his legacy of soulful footwork. Its first release would be Afterlife, a compilation of unreleased Rashad material that, in the words of Pitchfork, "captured the spirit of familial connection and experimentation integral to the Teklife crew." Listening to RA.999, it doesn't take long for any footwork fan to realise that this is an hour-long homage to Rashad's phenomenal discography. The first lyric we hear is "Throw your L's up for Rashad!" on "L's UP FOR RASHAD," and a string of Rashad classics follow, many of which Spinn and Manny collaborated on. It's a that reminder you of not just how staggeringly talented Rashad was, but how central collaboration was, and still is, to the Teklife project Although many of these songs are more than a decade old, not one song sounds out of place in 2025. This is an emotional, riveting listen documenting the work of the best to do it in footwork. Back then, Rashad was the future, and he still is. @deejay-manny-2 @dj-spinn-1 @teklife57 Find the tracklist at ra.co/podcast/1007
It's been 10 years since the debacle that was fan4stic and we thought Micheal B. Jordan would never be in a comic book movie again. Fantastic Four: First Steps is a celebration of Marvel's first family in a way that honors the legend of Jack Kirby and illustrates the determination of Kevin Feige. Matt Shakman (friend of the pod) directs this visually stunning homage to the space race 60's, world of tomorrow-esque look into this alternate universe's idealism, that's anchored by Sue Storm and the rest of the Fantastic Four. In this insightful Market Mondays clip, hosts Ian Dunlap, Troy Millings, and Rashad Bilal are joined by a top financial commentator as they dive deep into Nvidia's unparalleled impact on the tech and AI market. The team unpacks why Nvidia stands out as not just a dominant force, but perhaps the most influential company today—surpassing Apple in both relevance and innovation.Ian starts by highlighting Nvidia's visionary move to focus on building America's AI infrastructure instead of jumping on the social media and app bandwagon like many Silicon Valley peers. He likens Nvidia's role to “Tim Duncan” for the market, stepping up with game-changing chips right when the U.S. needed technological leadership. With bold multi-year price targets, Ian credits Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's relentless drive and paranoia as crucial to the company's success, noting their culture of mission-driven work as unmatched: “Everyone there was working on a mission, on a purpose.”Rashad reflects on the incredible financial impacts Nvidia has brought to the Market Mondays audience, asserting that no other company discussed on the show has changed more people's financial situations. Looking ahead, Rashad thinks Nvidia's dominance is only getting started, predicting several more years of strong stock price growth—especially as AI adoption explodes and enterprise demand for Nvidia GPUs becomes mandatory for anyone who wants to compete. The panel collectively recognizes the critical role Nvidia plays in powering not just major players like Microsoft, Meta, Broadcom, and TSM, but also a multitude of emerging AI platforms. Rashad states plainly, “You're not going to be able to lead or even compete in the space without them, and that's not going to change.”In a jaw-dropping moment, the team discusses where Nvidia could be headed in the next few years, with a long-term price call that suggests the company could add another trillion dollars to its valuation—something the market has never witnessed before.Whether you're invested in AI, interested in the next big market mover, or simply a fan of top-tier analysis, this clip lays out why Nvidia is in a class of its own—and why watching their next moves is essential for savvy investors.Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more deep dives and financial insights from Market Mondays!*Hashtags:* #MarketMondays #Nvidia #AI #StockMarket #Investing #TechStocks #FinancialFreedom #NVDA #ArtificialIntelligence #MarketAnalysisOur Sponsors:* Check out PNC Bank: https://www.pnc.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/marketmondays/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
