What happens when you keep accumulating more and more? Ever fear that you won’t have enough? Do you struggle to give and share? Greed shows up in many ways and forms in our world today. Jesus spoke frequently about money and possessions, not just in words but through His generous life. We live in a world today that often defines success by wealth and upward mobility. True abundance isn't found in possessions but in being rich toward God. Generosity requires a shift in thinking and begins with a step of faith.

Investors tout cryptocurrencies as the currency of the future. But this kind of virtual money follows “the greater fool” theory of investment. They generate no cash flow, so for you to profit, someone else must pay more than you did. Wouldn't you want to take a deep breath before becoming the next “greater fool” in a long line of fools? This is the same kind of pause that Jesus says is necessary to make wise decisions in all aspects of our financial lives. If we don't pause and apply the teachings of Jesus we risk becoming enslaved by greed, worry, and shortsightedness. Check out this message as we learn how to avoid becoming the greater fool.Speaker: Pastor Mark ReynoldsVenue: First United Methodist Church (Cocoa Beach, FL)To donate: www.fumccb.com www.revmarkreynolds.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PastorMarkReynolds

We give generously because we have generously been given so much from God. When we receive and rejoice in the depth of God's grace toward us in richly blessing us with his son whom he sent to die for our sins, our response of giving generously is not one of obligation but adoration. It is a delight and joy to give and live generously because we are responding to the joy and generosity of our loving Father. There are no two ways about it. James is very clear. If God doesn't manage our wealth it will ruin us. May the Holy Spirit bring to us a deeper understanding of our tende21.11.07

In today's passage, James wants to warn us about the effect money can have on our faith. If we are not careful, wealth can corrupt us. It can convince us that we deserve more than we need. It will even try to convince us that our wants are actually needs. Our want for “stuff” is never done. We must not put our trust in material possessions which can lead to the hoarding of wealth, oppression of laborers, self-indulgence or the murder of the righteous. We must remember to leverage our wealth for love of God and love of others through the practice of generosity and practicing simplicity.SERMON NOTES: https://www.bible.com/events/4879017321.11.07
